    The Journey has officially begun!

That's awesome! You can do it! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  2. Your starting weight was only 2 lbs less than mine. HW 324 SW 297 CW 283 Goal weight of 205 41 lbs so far. 78 to go. I have a thick frame to start with so I don't see me getting below 200. I was 203 when I graduated high school and had no gut. What stage of the diet are you in? I'm on the full liquid until next Wednesday then it's on to puréed foods. Any bumps in the road I should look out for? At any rate, keep up the great work and good luck in your journey. Thanks Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  3. I'm 6 days post op of my RNY and doing great, with one minor exception. The Protein drinks are disgusting. I gag every drink down. I have Syntrax variety packs and unjury samples from the dietician. I'm supposed to mix them with skim milk, which I usually/used to like. The Syntrax and Unjury powders are way too sweet and the aftertaste is stomach churning. Any recommendations? Here's what's in my binder from the dietician.
  4. I found a decent one. It's Allmax Isoflex, chocolate Peanut Butter flavor. It's still pretty sweet, but I think all things taste really sweet after the presurgery and post surgery diet. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  5. That's a great idea to mix the unflavored powder with soup. I'll have to try that. The Syntrax nectar flavored powders are just unbearable. They're way too sweet. I'm just trying to follow the dieticians guidelines as closely as possible. Good luck with your RNY. HW: 324 SW: 295 CW: 284
  6. Had my surgery (RNY) yesterday afternoon. Just got home a few hours ago. The surgeon was very pleased with my compliance to the pre-surgery diet. It was tough, but I made it through with a good support system. All of my family and friends were so helpful and supportive. Not to mention the feedback on this board. Couldn't have done it otherwise. I was doing laps around the floor every hour today from the time I woke up. Last evening, immediately after the surgery, was unpleasant. I just couldn't get comfortable. I was determined to leave the hospital after one night and I succeeded. The Dilauded through the IV really helped. I switched to Norco a few hours before they discharged me. Only issue so far is I waited nearly 5 hours between doses which caused a bit of pain. My goal is to wean off as quickly as possible. How long did anyone stay on it for? I'm expecting three days. By Friday I'll be off it, hopefully. Now on to the next stage! Hello warm, salty broth!!! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  7. I would kill for broth. Only shakes, raw veggies, and Water for me. If I see another carrot!! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  8. The funny thing is during my psych evaluations the therapist insisted that I have binge eating tendencies. I adamantly disagreed. I mean, how could she make that declaration after me answering a few questions on a form?! I have fooled myself that I didn't binge and only just consistently made poor decisions for nearly all meals of the day, as well as genetics. Maybe that's true, but I definitely think I may have a food addiction to overcome. We'll see how it goes after surgery. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  9. After being on the presurgery diet for two weeks, my physical hunger is mostly gone, or at least manageable. But the mental hunger and the desire to experience eating something warm and satiating is now worse than ever. All I can think of eating is a Jersey Mike's Chipotle Cheesesteak. I asked my friend to eat one and tell me how it tasted..... each step of the way. I think I need help But I asked him, jokingly, to take a picture of every bite and text them to me. He thought I meant pics of him eating the sandwich but what I really wanted was a point-of-view pic of the sandwich and each successive bite as they were taken out of the sandwich. That way, I can hold my phone as I flip through each picture and pretend I'm eating it myself. Ha. Yeah. It's that bad it got weird. This may be a great idea for an app, or not :/ Patent pending
  10. I'm on the 27th, one day after you. Two weeks in as well, but limited to 4 shakes a day. A little less than one week left of the presurgery diet. I'm over the hurdle of starving 24/7, but the fantasizing about eating real food is incredibly hard. The other night at dinner my daughter was eating egg rolls and I helped her unroll them (she likes eating them that way) and I just kept smelling my fingers after. Whenever I drive by a restaurant with my favorite foods (which is pretty much all food), I literally imagine eating those foods and can almost taste them. I imagine all of the sensations of eating them, including how my stomach would feel if I ate them (which is full, BTW). It's tough but I'm determined to stick to it. My coworkers and family have all been supportive. Some people at work taunt me with their lunches, but to be honest, it helps to keep things light. I know they're joking and are supportive. If I didn't laugh about it occasionally I would be miserable. Good luck everyone! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

  13. I started my pre-op (RNY) diet this Tuesday. It's a three week diet. Surgery is 12/27. I struggled through yesterday afternoon. I'm feeling much better today. Diet consists of four (4) - 8oz skim milk slim fast high Protein shakes (I blend in ice for the last one of the day for fill), 64oz of Water, and raw veggies when I'm hungry (which is all of the time!). I munch on full size carrots at my desk while working and keep chugging my water. Thinking I'm Bugs Bunny while chomping away on the carrots helps keep my spirits up. With all of the water I'm drinking, the frequent trips to the bathroom are a little annoying, but my body will adapt. I'm really looking forward to the decrease in hunger pangs post-surgery. Other than the hunger pangs, the quick muscle fatigue is irritating. I'm a muscular guy (under all my fat) and I'm afraid I'll lose a lot of that muscle during this process. The other huge thing that is rough is when I'm helping my wife and daughter get dinner together. The food smells soooooo good. Last night all I wanted was some flavor other than a shake. I just wanted some broth or something with some sodium. I've resisted the urge so far. I just look at my daughter and think about how I'm doing it for her (and me). I don't get emotional about the idea of not being able to eat the things I used to eat, but I do dwell on it. Okay, maybe a little emotional When I walk to work and pass by a food truck or restaurant and can smell the amazing aromas, I get a little sad. I know after surgery I can still eat some of those foods, just in much smaller portions, but many foods are now prohibited for life. I just hope after surgery, my food preferences change. I think they will over time. My rationale is this: pre-surgery, healthy eating was a lifestyle choice, post-surgery, healthy eating is a medical necessity. I know it was a medical necessity pre-surgery, at least if I cared about my health, but eating the bad foods wouldn't have immediate negative feedback like RNY will. Sorry for the long post. It's my first post. I look forward to following the threads. Good luck everyone!
