What is the best research site for bariatric surgery?
Mountaln Gal posted a topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Hi Everyone. Im going to meet my doc this coming Wednesday to discuss the possibilities of bariatric surgery. Do any of you have any suggestions on sites for researching the actual surgery and prep for the surgery? I need to learn more about the different surgeries offered. Thanks in advance. Hi Megan! I am from Canada as well. I am in the early stages; such as doing research and asking questions. I have a doc appointment in 2 weeks. This is when i plan to bring up the surgery topic. Im just curious, what is "PCOS". I am also hoping the government health plan will cover me as well. I do have a few health issues so don't think it will be an issue. I wish you much success! P.s. what is a "stricture"? Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App -
Hey everyone! Hope everyone had a Merry Christmas! I am still researching weight loss surgery and wondered about the following... Just curious about the loose skin after having lost so much weight. I know there is a tummy tuck that is normally covered. Has anyone heard of other areas being covered; such as the arms and legs? Is there such a procedure for the arms and legs to remove excess skin? I have quite a bit of weight to loose and know most areas will need some form of "tuck" attention. Thanks for reading this and providing your stories of experience. Take care. Thanks Renea for your input. It is so hard watching my mom go through the things she is due to weight. I have taken care of her as best i can; but now require more. This all just plays on my mind and encourages me to get the surgery. Next time i go to my doc's i will be asking to get on the list. Take care & thanks. Talking to your doctor about a surgery option.
Mountaln Gal posted a topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
So, my doctor has never brought up the issue of weight loss surgery to me. Recently, i have seen my mom go through many struggles in a hospital; partly due to her weight; and the constant reminder of her weight from numerous nurses who thought they were being polite about it. It all has made me realize i need to do something now before i cant take care of myself at her age. How do you just approach he topic with your general practitioner to get the referral one needs to be placed on the list to be taken on by the bariatric clinic? Was your doctor accepting of your decision to have the surgery; or did the doc want you to try other methods first; or was the doc happy you made the decision? Any advice or stories you have relating to this topic is greatly appreciated. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App -
Thanks everyone for your replies. This surgery does sound manageable and it is sounding like something i will be able to do. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

Hi All. Love this app; it has so much useful info, encouraging people, and wonderful success stories. I am still doing research to see if a surgery is for me. I definitely need to make a life change. I am wondering how much time you all needed for recovery? Is there some time need prior to the surgery as well? I work full time and am trying to see how much time away i would need. Thanks for any and all replies. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

In the early stages of deciding if surgery is the best option
Mountaln Gal replied to Mountaln Gal's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Thank you all for your advice. I need to do some research on the different types of surgeries and decide which is best. I know i need to do the surgery for many reasons; i just needed to hear how it all began for everyone so i would get a glimpse of what to expect. When i mentioned confidence, for me, i am a fairly confident person in my capabilities; however, when it comes to social settings, i feel awkward and just want to blend in un-noticed. I just feel judged by society as that has been a problem growing up. One other part i look forward to is clothes shopping and being able to walk into any store and buy an item; plus size clothing is not cheap that is for sure. Thanks again and i look forward to being motivated by you all. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App -

Hello everyone! So many great, inspiring posts here. I have so many questions; but will start with just a few; i look forward to everyone's advice and experience... -how long does the average recovery take? -what is the age range of people who have done weight loss surgery? -what are some meals and how often? -did you gain more confidence in life with weight loss? -thanks for all replies.
