I had popcorn at 3 months out, hey said I should have been fully healed and it would b ok. Before that, I was not supposed to eat it... I think the hulls wee too tough until fully healed. Same thing with alcohol.

I had to ask my doc because I was trying to eat around 800/day, but even the smallest meals added up too quickly for me to no time exceed that amount. My doc told me to eat around 1500/day. I exceed that most days, but use my fitness pal and it calculates the extra calories I get from exercise. I had surgery in August (18th) and am down 81 pounds from my highest weight. I am still losing weight and feel better with the extra calories. I was dragging without them. I will say my weight loss has slowed to between 1-2 pounds a week, but I am sort of glad, because my skin is getting saggy and my hair is falling out so bad! I'm hoping that losing slower will help with these things. I have lost over half my hair now.

Please tell me day 4 is better then day 2!
Jen Mac replied to ambergirl84's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wow, you are strong and brave. This will get better and better. I considered my first week post op to be the worst week. Like hell week during a hazing for a frat house or something, lol... I PROMISE you it gets so much better! The best advice I saw here was to sip and take the meds. Sip sip sip sip sip! I had trouble sleeping in a bed my first few weeks because if I moved, my gut would shift and the pain would be off the chart. Those pain meds were a lifesaver. When you get to go home, you'll be surrounded by the comforts of home. Just remember, the first week is the worst week but it will be so much better soon. You will be so glad you did this for yourself. I wish you a speedy recovery and safe trip home! -
Pouch Rules for Dummies

Very interesting- thank you! -
I I'm the total opposite of you I get my 64oz of liquid but I'm struggling with my protein I gotta get 60-80g of protein a day like what do you do to meet yours? I drink the Protein shake every morning and that gives me 30grams of the 60 I'm told to eat. I then eat lean meat, fish or legumes for lunch. If I have Snacks, I try and make them protein rich, like string cheese or these chips I found called beanitos. Lol, sounds like a gas medicine, I know, but they are really good and come in lots of flavors. They're made from Beans and have a decent amount of protein in them. (Can't remember exactly off the top of my head). It's though some times, but I try and follow the protein first rule. Some days I eat just protein for a meal, like tonight I had roasted chicken, about 6 oz. that was it, because it is so filling. I later had a grapefruit after the chikky settled. I am also lucky to work in a health care setting where all our meals in the cafeteria are bar coded for my fitness pal, so I am able to choose the most protein laden meal. What are you doing to get all that Fluid in?

Are revisions REALLY necessary?
Jen Mac replied to Babbs's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Not what I said at all... but hey, read what you like into it, we all seem to be doing that. I said people deserve second chances. I said not all doctors who perform them are unethical. I said I don't want to make anyone feel ashamed for having a revision. I said I found my place here on this board after I never thought I'd be fat again, so I can see how someone would have faltered. Let he who be without sin cast the first stone... everyone deserves a second chance... I did not say any of those things you think I said. Not my opinion... fact. This thread was started as a discussion about revision surgery, which we were having a nice civil one until you came along and decided to be the thread police and declare that we were shaming anyone who has a revision. There's always one who has to come in and claim everyone is shaming someone when we try to have a frank, honest discussion. But you're new here. I'll let it go. Thanks... I can feel the love. -
Are revisions REALLY necessary?
Jen Mac replied to Babbs's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
One M&M for a surgery done in Mexico isn't really what I think most people here are talking about. You say we have differing ideas about what is unethical, and we clearly do... I am not a surgeon, nor do I purport to know all the risks and benefits, but I do believe they are highly individualized and best left to those educated on the procedure. There will always be outliers. There will always be truly unethical practices. But it sounds like there is a very black and white line of thinking here and I don't want to make people who have had revisions feel like they need to hide it or that they have done something wrong. I know 2 people who have had successful revisions. One of them done by my surgeon. She is amazing (my surgeon)... I work with her. She's done so many of these procedures she has it down to a science. I take care of her patients and chose her for her lack of complications and experience. She is a lifesaver to many and anything but unethical. Wow, you seem to be reading a lot into these posts and being pretty judgmental ((and black and white) yourself... Google a few "medical tourism" WLS practices and a email/text them that you are seeking a revision. See how through of a history they take before taking your credit card number and scheduling you. BTW,where did I say that the surgery was done in Mexico? Um...nowhere. I am familiar with leaving the country for surgery as it's cheaper... you said something about doctors in Mexico... I am not here to debate this with you, or anyone else, I am here to SUPPORT people. The ONLY reason I said my piece was to try and say that we are all different and NOONE should be made to feel bad if they needed/had a revision. This is turning into a who's right and wrong. I'm out. You can have the win since it seems to mean so much to you... -

I guess I view revisions for whatever reason to be at the discretion of the surgeon and patient. Everyone's story is different, but even if it is not "medically necessary", who am I to say another isn't worthy of a second chance? I am a nurse and have taken care of addicts of all nature and see the rate of recidivism/relapse. I know that it takes more than one round of treatment some times... yes, surgery is a major intervention and there are risks associated with it, but to say a surgeon is "unethical" for performing them as revisions is a bit judgemental, regardless of whether or not there is perceptible tone. Pray you never find yourself in a position where you have "eaten your way through" your surgery. We are all human and not infallible. I lost 115 lbs the "natural" way and kept it off for over 10 years. I NEVER thought I would gain that weight back. I thought my food issues were resolved. But here I am, typing this post on the bariatric pal thread. I gained all the weight back and then some. Went from 165 lbs to 362. I needed surgery to help with this. We all did, right? That's why we're here. I'm here to find support and offer it to others... if I had a revision and came here looking for support and was reading this, I think I'd cry. There are those that judge us because we had to have the surgery the first time... let's not do the same to someone who found themselves here twice. -
I am also losing hair by handfuls and I had surgery 8-18-16. It is very depressing to me because like many, my hair was the one thing I had that I liked. I've lost about 1/2 my hair now. If this goes on until weight loss stops I am going to be bald. I have only been losing hair for 3 weeks, and have lost half.... so now I'm terrified!

I'm 6 months post op gastric bypass
Jen Mac replied to deanieluv6's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Don't worry too much about it... I honestly won't lose for a week or two, then boom, pounds are lost! I weigh myself just once every week or two and find it helps me stay chill about the process, which is stressful to most of us. All the best! -
I still struggle with the 64oz of liquid a day, but am at about 60 consistently. The premier protein shakes have 30 gm protein and 11oz liquid, so I try to have one for breakfast every day.

Thank you, I had a great thanksgiving! Happy you're coming up on the big day!

I thought the first two days were tough, but after that, I found it to be ok. I was tempted to cheat, and one night I had a steak, but I was allowed lean meat, just not as much as I ate. Other than that night, I behaved super solid. Any time I got the urge to cheat, I just thought about my liver not being small enough to do the surgery and having it cancelled after they looked inside me. That terrified me! My Dr told me to think of the preop diet as a prescription ant not a diet. Sounds corny, but it helped me take it seriously. Also- remember it is only temporary! And it is so worth it! The best wishes to you for a smooth surgery and recovery! You've got this!

@@Hammer_Down As you said, public board where everyone can post opinions... even if it is outrage. Perhaps this topic interested some because they had a revision. We're here to share thoughts, and they shared theirs. We are all so different and that's what makes reading these threads so interesting. -
Pre-Op Cold Feet Due to Family's WLS Disapproval :(
Jen Mac replied to Vagrant Violet's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I struggled, too. In fact, I thought about turning the car around the day of my surgery... I am SO glad I didn't. One thing is true... YOU and ONLY YOU should make this decision. (Your docs should help you make the most informed decision) I shared this with someone else tonight who is waiting for surgery-- Only you know what you need to do to get through your weight loss struggles. I had many people tell me it was going to be so bad, it's not natural, you'll starve. I'm not starving, it's just as natural as them being able to stop eating before over eating, and I am adjusting to my new lifestyle. I had surgery in August and am down 77 pounds from my highest weight... I had lost 18 before surgery. My knee pain is almost gone, I walk so much faster, I'm not short of breath when walking. My old clothes fit, my spirit is up, my depression is better. (I also battle major depressive disorder) People are noticing the weight loss, my reflection in the mirror surprises me and I am so glad I saw it through! Don't get me wrong, it's not all rainbows and butterflies and there are low points, but it is worth it to regain your health! You got this! -

Oh, and one last thing- I was tearful the morning of my surgery and they offered me meds for it. This was a good thing, say yes! -
