    Blew it this week

I see a therapist every two weeks and keep a journal to empty my thoughts. I fight with those same urges and feelings creepping back, thoughts of failure, guilt, shame, failure. I'll have weeks where everything goes right, for exercise, and today, blew it, like you said. It's a process, every day is one step, and sometimes we trip along the way. But tomorrow is another day. We get up, vitamins water protein first. The times I trip, it's because I forget protein first. I'll go a few days eating salad, fruit, hummus, stir fry, and then the hunger and cravings catch up to me. Don't beat yourself up, you know that only leads to more guilt, restricting, and losing control. I highly recommend working with an eating disorder counselor. Not that you have an eating disorder, but they can really help with the pattern of thinking that you speak of. Good luck, and just remember that tomorrow doesn't care what you did last week, just make the best of it. Sent from my SM-G920T using BariatricPal mobile app

    Staples

I had staples, just wash the area gently with soap and water. No luffa scrubbing! HW 310 SW 299 4/11 CW 277
  6. I'm on soft food, and expected to feel the restriction of a smaller stomach, but I don't. Had a can of tuna with no problem, full but not uncomfortable. I keep reading about people eating a few bites and feeling full, and I feel like I can eat a lot more than expected. Is this normal? I'm so afraid of falling back into old patterns of binging. I had an easy recovery, no pain, and started working out half hour a day. Now at two weeks, I'm exhausted all the time. I can be up and moving for max three hours, I then crash and nap, sleep 9 hours a night, and then take a morning nap. I was feeling so great, and now I'm returning to work and I don't know how I'm going to stay awake. It's a desk job, but still. I'm getting in 400-600 calories. About 60g of protein. Help!

    Not getting full, no energy

Thank you so much everyone! The reassurance is so helpful, especially in the early days. Its a learning curve and I'm learning to be a more mindful eater. Focusing on portions and listening to the stomach makes all the difference. Therapy help too [emoji16]. Sent from my SM-G920T using BariatricPal mobile app
  8. What helped me was broth, broth broth broth all the time kept me full and it's delicious. Added species and red pepper flakes for variety. Good luck! Sent from my SM-G920T using BariatricPal mobile app

    Pre-Op diet...how much did u

Started at 310 and dropped 10 during one week of preop Liquids. Third day out from surgery, dropped another 5, which worries me about dehydration. I hate protein shakes too, but I can tolerate protein water, tastes like crystal light, but has 15g of protein per 17oz serving. Sip, sipping away. Good luck on your journey!

  13. Had bypass 5 hours ago, and I feel great! Everyone has been so nice throughout the whole day! I'm sore, and I have pain in my chest from gas, I'm still a little dizzy, and so so thirsty, but I'm so happy to be on the other side of this process. I was so nervous this morning, and reconsidering the surgery last night as i mourned never being able to eat 3lbs of food in one sitting again. [emoji20] [emoji47] [emoji22] But this morning, I made up my mind to smile and be friendly to everyone. And that same attitude was returned ten fold! It couldn't have gone better, and to anyone having the same worries and reconsiderations, don't stress. This is a rebirth to a new life! Looking forward to starting my walks and getting my Liquids in an hour or so. Good luck to everyone![emoji1]

    Joy!

You're right, Meltsintowonder, not everyone has a smooth surgery, those were the experiences that kept me up at night. [emoji21]
  15. Had bypass this morning, and took a total of 30 minute walk split in chucks of 5-10 minutes. The pain meds make me sleepy, which is what slowed my roll, but I was told to walk as much as possible.

    Protein water

Agreed! Not too sweet and it has a "taste" but not like premier protein. It's coconut with a hint of sour lemon at the end. Highly recommend, going to try the other flavors next.

    Question about out of pocket

My out of pocket is $300 deductible, which I've already met with the sleep study.
  18. Hi all, I'm starting to plan for my post op lifestyle. I've read here some folks do a low carb diet after surgery and some stick with everything in moderation. I've tried both many times in my life. Lost more and quickly with low carb. But always came slipped back into normal eating. Everything in moderation, leaves me more hungry, but not craving so much. As far as weight loss and maintenance after bypass, what has worked best? Is it easier to maintain low carb after surgery? Have you seen equal success with eating all in moderation? 19. I'm so close to submitting for insurance, so I'm scouring the internet for post surgery tools. I ran across these storage containers. They have a twist lid, and come in sizes as small as half an ounce, 2 ounces, 3.5 and 5oz, Seems like the perfect portion post surgery. And they screw into each other for easy portability. I was thinking of using Mason jars, but the smallest I could find is 4 oz, and they get heavy to lug around. If anyone has found anything else that works, I would love the suggestion. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00E8B2V04/ref=twister_B00O0UO73M?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
  20. I saw someone at work using this today, and thought this would be perfect for post-surgery! Water bottle that syncs with your phone and has a light up feature for remind you to drink. It's a little steep for me at $55, but thought I would share. http://hidratespark.com/products/teal

    Surgeon recommends sleeve not bypass

Found out that at least in MO, bypass requires two surgeons present, while sleeve only requires one. I had a surgeon who refused to do bypass on me "because I wasn't heavy enough" @44bmi. Quickly got a second opinion, at which point I switched surgeons. If anyone feels pressures towards one procedure, they should seek a second opinion.

    Question about out of pocket

I have highmark BCBS, and when I log in online I can see my policy and get estimates based on my insurance for the cost of any procedure. I'm not sure if BCBS IL has it, but they're the same company so they might. They had bypass and band as options, but not sleeve, but I'm sure bypass is close to sleeve. The estimate included EVERYTHING, hospital surgeon, blood work, ekg, etc. And depending on the hospital it shows the different prices. It was crazy to see how one hospital the bill was 27k-30k, and the hospital I'll be doing it at is 13k-17k. It also explains the breakdown of what your total estimate might be. 24. Hi all, I'm a 30 year old female, around 41/42 BMI. I'm 1 NUT session away from submitting to insurance. I initially went to my surgeon asking for the bypass, to which he said I'm not overweight enough for and wouldn't be worth the complications. He said he wouldn't even consider it for me. And I left it at that. As I'm reading more, I'm having some doubts about the long term success with the sleeve. I know that one can be equally successful with both, but when looking at averages across many people, bypass wins out. In my mind, I would want to take the option that affords me the best chances at success forever. But I'm not sure if there are other considerations I'm not aware of (besides malabsorption and complications). At 40bmi and above, I would think I am definitely eligible for it. I like my surgeon, but I'm not sure if I should search out for a second opinion. Sent from my SM-G900T using the BariatricPal App

    Sleeve vs bypass

UPDATE: brought up the question and the surgeon has said they will not do a bypass on me due to my 'low BMI'. So my options are sleeve or to find another surgeon. I'm am now actively searching for second opinions, since my highmark BCBS insurance no longer requires the 6 month nutrition counseling, so I'm eligible to apply for approval now. It has left a bad taste in my mouth, since that's really contrary to everything I've read about bypass in BMI ~40 patients. And I'm informed on risks and complications, but the long term security in the bypass results vs sleeve, have me really considering looking elsewhere.
