Yes, another hair loss question!
Martha Parker-mcneal replied to Ldybg8879's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I got a new haircut and lightened the hair ( that way the contrast between the hair color and the scalp was not as prominent. I live in florida which is very hot so was concerned on the wigs and them breaking my hair off. I have heard that wigs and hats can do that. mostly I just lived thro it. only lasted a few months and since my hair was thin and fine before the surgery not many people actually noticed it. I was the one wigged ( excuse the pun) good luck to you -
have someone moniter your snoring or stopping breathing during sleep. have the sleep study. often as we lose weight the fat in our necks also reduces and most of the time folks can stop the machines. Im not a dr but I have heard that we should not stop them on our own as the poor breathing and poor sleep can lead to heart problems down the line. good luck to you

Increased hot flashes?
Martha Parker-mcneal replied to nursedennise's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
it is probably just your body adjusting to all the shock it has been thro. many of your hormones are in your fat cells so as they use up the storage out comes the hormones also. if it continues for several months see your dr as there are medications you can take short term but they do have side effects. dress in layers and always have a fan with you. I also take baby wipes as that makes me feel fresher ( it may just be me lol) -
2 weeks post-op
Martha Parker-mcneal replied to Sadiebug's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
you are not out of the norm. some of us do feel better but some don't. remember you have had major surgery and your body has to have time to adjust. I did go back to work after 7 days but it took almost two months for me to have any energy. I would work and sleep ugh. just keep taking your vitamins drinking your Water and getting as much Protein as you can. try to walk each day and go a little further every few days. it will come back good luck to you -
Warning eat your protein/vitamins!!!!! 8mths post op Gastric bypass
Martha Parker-mcneal replied to curlysue86's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
so sorry you are going thro this but very happy you are aware of the issue and getting back on track. it is a great warning to all of us. once we start getting some distance between the surgery and now all too often we start slacking up. since we don't dump so much and start getting hungry we push the limits on food and this can lead to regain. if we are feeling good we will stop all the Vitamins and slack up on Water and exercise. thanks so much for reminding all of us that we need to stay true to the basics of the program. hope tomorrow brings you back to some peace and your plan of drinking again and getting the Protein will bring that body back to vibrant health. -
Minimizing complications
Martha Parker-mcneal replied to Gabriel29's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
if you follow all the rules you will reduce your chances of having complications however there is no guarantee. however with out the surgery you are almost promised continued weight gain and complications later on such as hbp high chol and diabetes as well and heart problems personally id rather take my chances with the surgery than face all the health issues that come from obesity. good luck to you -
Popcorn
Martha Parker-mcneal replied to livinglife61884's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have tried it and had trouble sometimes. I rarely eat it anymore but if I do I chew it up but spit out the husks as they seem to be what causes the problems. it is usually not recommended so try to find some option. I often take a high Protein snack to the movies and not have the pop corn. good luck to you -
Social Media
Martha Parker-mcneal replied to janicemscott's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just told a few folks cause I wasn't up for all the remarks about the easy way. I told folks I was trying to make my lifestyle healthier and was on a high protein low carb diet. that was not a lie just not the whole truth. -

Migraines
Martha Parker-mcneal replied to hbluemel73's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
we were told no ibuprofen ever. since I am older I was worried about joint pain in later life. so far the exercising has kept the pain at bay. talk to your dr or nurse pract. there are meds for migraines that are acceptable. good luck to you -
Recovery time
Martha Parker-mcneal replied to JealousMuch's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
very simular to all others. walking within a few hours of waking up. hospital for two days and back to work in 7. had a desk job. I will add that I was pretty tired for about 3 weeks and only went to work and did the min around the house after work. got in plenty of Protein drinks and jello broths etc so no cooking was needed thank goodness. walked the hallway at work during lunch and in the morning break time so I could get in my exercise. sure did not feel like it after working 8 hours. was a little tender for a few weeks but no pain. -

What am I doing wrong?
Martha Parker-mcneal replied to Cinnahs's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
all of us are different. I can remember comparing myself and my weight loss to others in my group and always feeling I was not enough. I finally figured out that I was just a slow loser. some folks lose fast and I must admit I resented that for a time. however. my sponsor reminded me of the story of the turtle and the rabbit. the slow turtle did win and so will you. if you are doing what they tell you to do you are all right. remember that if you had not had the surgery you would probably be up to 375. just do the next right thing and it will work out for you. we are here when you need to talk -
