    Desi80 - HAPPY BIRTHDAY !!

A very Happy Birthday to You!
  3. Hey Wheetsin, I eat it almost everyday with cottage cheese, chicken, whatever. Im an applesauce freak. *laughs* No problems whatsoever. Enjoy!
  4. Karen, be careful of pineapple chunks. They are very fiberous, stringy, um.. whatever you want to call it. Try peaches or maybe pears. They are soft and mush up a lot easier. I tried a small piece of pineapple in some fruit coctail and spit it out when I saw that I wasnt going to be able to chew it to goo. All these PB stories have me very cautious about what goes down my throat! Thanks for sharing. Sorry you had to go thru it. Like everyone else said, get back on liquid for a day or two to help the irritation and swelling from the PB go down. I've heard it you try to eat too soon afterwards, it just causes it to happen again. *Hugs*

    The Gone for Good Club

Oh my gosh! Everyone has done so great this week! I'll be posting the updates tonight after everyone's had a chance to check in. I'm so proud of everyone! I love talking to you all during the week and keeping up with how youre doing. I hope more of you become more talkative. Everyone said they really needed this when they started, but then only a few have really spoken up. Where are you losers? *big smiles* Diane - 6 pounds away! OMG! Im so excited for you and Heather both. Is anyone else that close to Onederland? We need to have a party when you all cross over! Cynthia - 10 pounds? Are you ok? I hope everythings alright. Fill us in ok? Heather - The rodeo is doing you good, girl! 6 pounds! w00t! Everyone else seems right on track. One to two pounds a week is perfect. Let's see. Everyone wanted something different for their stats, so we tried to do what would cover everyone. On the front page, we have all stats current to the day we each joined GFG. So for those who are just updating, all I need is your current weight, how much you've lost total (so I dont have to do the math on everyone) and how much you lost this week (so I can tally up how much we are losing as a group in the Month of March). Make sense? Hope so! Here's mine - I promise I wont cry. I might sniffle a bit, but I wont cry! C 265 (-42) 0 lost this week. I had lost a pound when I weighed on Sunday, but I guess I gained it back. Must be -that- time of the month. *sniffles*

    Gerd????

I was on Protonix as well, great stuff. Prior to starting on the Protonix I had heartburn all the time and the acid reflux was so bad at night that I'd wake up with it in my nose and sinuses, unable to breathe and in extreme pain. The last Protonix I took was the day before surgery. Not one hint of heartburn or reflux since.

    BBW dating sites...

Dawg and I met online in a chat room in the fall of 1998. Dawg lived in England and I lived here in Idaho. We spent hundreds of hours talking and getting to really know each other. He even spent lots of hours talking to my kids who were teens at that time. He and my 13 year old son grew very close. Dawg gave him much needed male support and advice during some tough adolescent times. We met in person on April 21, 1999 when he flew over to stay with us for three weeks. I don't think we had one moment of awkwardness between each other. It was as if he'd returned home. And when he left, we all cried. In August, Dawg gave notice at his job, sold everything he had and came back to me on September 1st. We were married on September 21, 1999. And no, we don't communicate with each other on computers from opposite ends of the house. Duh. We did our time communicating online and wouldn't go back to that for anything. We have a nice office with our desks side by side and we enjoy making friends and chatting with others online - together. Nuttin weird about that at all.

    Letters to loved ones....

Many people have. There was a similar thread on this not long ago. It helps some people feel like everything is in order in case the worst possible scenario becomes a reality. If it makes you feel better, write your letters. But I agree with HarleyNana, chances are very slim that you won't return safe and um.. sore from surgery. *hugs* Hang in there, you'll be fine.
  14. *laughs* We can look around this LBT alone and see that the good Dr hasn't done his research. Many Dr's don't even know what the lap band is yet. If you like your Dr for all other care, perhaps you could help inform him of some places to find out more about the band so he can help other patients of his who may someday be banded. If you don't like him anyway, move on. You're going to need someone who supports your entire well being.

Oh geeze.. I have issues I really need to work on before my 100 pound mark! I would curl up into a little ball and roll under a table if someone other than Dawg told me I was hot. Seriously.. I have issues. *laughs*

    Shocking Information (HRT - production)

[/url] http://www.theworld.org/technology/stemcell/03.shtml "There are reasons why this operation is not yet performed in the United States. Dr. Huang's therapy is highly controversial. Western scientists say he hasn't done the rigorous studies necessary to prove the technique works. And then there's the issue of where he gets the cells - from aborted second trimester fetuses. In the United States, fetal cell research is, at the very least, politically controversial. But in China's Confucian culture, human life is seen to begin at birth, not at conception, and Dr. Huang believes it's unethical not to use aborted fetuses and embryos for medical work."

Opinions Please - Do I need another fill?

If you are working out that much you need to be eating more than you were when you first started. If you are dropping clothes sizes but not pounds.. then you are replacing fat (weighs less, takes up more room) with muscle (weighs more, takes up less room). If you have to stop while eating because your restriction is limiting you, then I would say you do not need a fill. What feels like a "ton of food" to you now, is probably not a ton of food at all. I told Dawg not long ago that I was concerned because I can eat a "ton of food" and he asked, "Could you eat a foot long Subway sandwich?" Of course I couldn't and this helped me get things into perspective. I can eat 3/4 to 1 Cup of food at a time.. more if Im eating foods that go down easier or if I'm drinking Water with meals (big no no). Are you writing down your caloric intake per day? If not, why don't you try doing so in order to get an honest look at what you're eating. Are you eating your Protein first? Are you drinking liquids with your meals? Take a good look at your eating habits now and re-evaluate things. Chances are, you are eating just like you should be, otherwise you wouldn't be seeing smaller sizes fitting so nicely, right?
  19. Nothing to freak about. As Wheetsin said, where the port is located and where the laproscopic incisions are placed is up to the surgeon's preference. I have five scars. The longest scar is near the port, then there is one about half the port scar size, then three tiny ones. I've noticed that many people have their scars in locations far different than mine. It's normal. Hope you are relaxing about it now.

&**&^ No More Fills For Me

I totally agree with Alex and Kathy. I think you are trying to rush things. Two days after I went off of liquids (after my first fill) I felt like I was starving and I could eat more than before the fill. It was only because of reading about other people's experiences that I've been able to realize that I just need to watch my intake and give it some time. Finding the right fill, or sweet spot, takes time and patience. You have to give your body time to settle into the adjustments before you can really determine if you need more or less of a fill. Plus, you're right.. the band is a tool and so is access to a dietician! Use every resource you have to help you learn a new lifestyle that will stay with you forever. Try to focus beyond the weight loss and on a change in your eating habits so you will have a lifetime of success rather than a year or two. Listen to your doctor and your nutritionist - and be thankful you have them both on your team, helping you to beat the food demon!

    Committment Thread to lose weight

Today is going to be a real challenge for me. For the last week and a half, I have had company - friends and family - around me, keeping me busy and on the go. Today I decided I wanted to be alone and called for a "Me" day. The hard part will be getting up off my arse and doing something. When I'm alone, it's like I freeze up. I can think of a million things that need to be done around the house, and yet I just sit here on the computer, zoning out and letting the day go by. I did this for an entire year last year and I'm sick of it. I don't want to have to rely on others to get me off my duff. So, today Im going to add a few things to my goal list to try and motivate myself into doing them: 1. Shower, hair, manicure, paint nails, do makeup. (didnt do, family showed up) 2. Shred at least one bag full of old bills and papers from my desk. (didnt do *sighs*) 3. Wash all bedding in the house, even stuff in closets (to freshen things up a bit) done! Typical daily stuff: I will walk a minimum of 1/2 mile on my dreadmill every day. (didnt do, ankle is hurting ) I will drink 64 oz. of Water every day. (done) I will take on one achievable project in my house per day. (Did one thing only, I guess that's good.) I will NOT sit on my arse all day doing nothing but fighting head hunger out of pure boredom! (Did well.) I will NOT eat while doing distracting things, which causes me to eat too quickly and not chew well. (Did sort of ok)

*laughs* Now there's a question you don't see every day! I have no clue, but would LOVE it if you'd post something in the Lounge about your trip, maybe some pics too, and let us know what you think of it there. If you've done this already and I've missed it, please point me to the thread?

Morality VS Self Preservation (Neighbor issues)

Many years ago, there was a woman in our apartments who was habitually leaving her 4 year old alone. I was always seeing this child wondering around the apartments, out in the parking lots, etc. The daughter of a friend babysat for this woman one night.. and the woman didn't return home for two days. The poor girl babysitting didn't know what to do. I struggled with the decision to call about this too, but I did it. And when the police showed up and took the little girl with them, I cried and felt so guilty. So odd. I can't really explain why I would feel so bad and so guilty about helping that child. No matter what happens, Sarah, you can at least know that you did -something- to try and help. Have you talked to the apartment manager about the noise? You'd think they would evict the people.

    Shocking Information (HRT - production)

The babies in China thing is NOT an urban legend. I know several women from China, one was a pediatric physician, and it IS true.. sad, but very true. Keep in mind, these pregnancies are not increasing the population. The mothers are being paid to donate their unborn children for scientific research. The following is from www.usembassy-china.org.cn : Human Embryonic Stem Cell Research in China A September 2002 Report from U.S. Embassy Beijing Human embryonic stem cell research in China is at a nascent stage but developing rapidly. Many of the top labs plan to submit their findings to international scientific journals within the next two years. Until then, all unsubstantiated news reports should be ignored as some researchers make false claims simply to draw media attention. The main obstacle for some of the best research labs has been obtaining adequate supplies of high quality embryos. This has created a market for human embryos that remains unregulated. Although a number of ethics groups have raised public awareness on the moral issues of human embryonic stem cell research, effective laws cannot be expected any time soon. Even if new laws are passed, there are no plans to oversee and enforce them. The potential for public opprobrium may remain a key deterrent to unethical human embryonic stem cell research. The following is from the National Insitute of Health: (http://stemcells.nih.gov/StemCells/Templates/StemCellContentPage.aspx?NRMODE=Published&NRORIGINALURL=%2finfo%2ffaqs%2easp&NRNODEGUID=%7bA604DCCE-2E5F-4395-8954-FCE1C05BECED%7d&NRCACHEHINT=NoModifyGuest#umbilical) Where do stem cells come from? Pluripotent stem cells are isolated from human embryos that are a few days old. Cells from these embryos can be used to create pluripotent stem cell "lines" —cell cultures that can be grown indefinitely in the laboratory. Pluripotent stem cell lines have also been developed from fetal tissue obtained from fetal tissue (older than 8 weeks of development). Nine weeks old. By this age (8 weeks) the neuroanatomic structures are present. What is needed is (1) asensory nerve to feel the pain and send a message to (2) the thalamus, a part of the base of the brain, and (3) motor nerves that send a message to that area. Try sticking an infant with a pin and you know what happens. She opens her mouth to cry and also pulls away. Try sticking an 8 week old human fetus in the palm of his hand. He opens his mouth and pulls his hand away. Volman & Pearson, "What the Fetus Feels," British Med.Journal, Jan. 26,1980, pp. 233-234.
