    ~Night All

Leener.. you sweetheart. I'm so proud of you. Each day will get better and better. I was one of those that didn't walk out the door and go shopping. In fact, I stayed overnight in the hospital and they had to tell me to get out. I didn't want to go! So you're not alone in that aspect. Try to get up and move about as much as you can. It sounds contrary to what your body wants (which is to lay still) but it really will help. Keep sipping that Water. Don't worry about food or losing weight right now. All of that will come in due time. Did they send you home with a breathing thing? Incentive whatchamacallit thingie? I had to breathe in with that thing a couple of times a day to be sure my lungs didn't stick together at the bottom. It makes you cough too. I HATED that thing, but I felt better each time I did it. Hang in there girlfriend. You're doing great. And you're so doggone brave! Christopher would be proud of you! *big smiles*

    no sleep

Ah the dreaded gas pains. The reason you are feeling this up in your shoulder and neck is because some of the residual gas is pressing on your diaphram. As suggested by Karen, walking and moving around will help this dissipate quicker. My gas pains were never in my shoulder or neck, but I had a horrible band of pain around my chest, just under my bra line. It will go away, hang in there. *hugs*

Affects of Flying with Lap Band?

Here's another thread about this topic: http://lapbandtalk.com/showthread.php?p=175834#post175834 Dawg's post about Inamed recommending an unfil is on there.
  4. Don't forget Kat1215! She was getting banded yesterday too. Wow, a whole slew of baby bandsters! Neat!

Affects of Flying with Lap Band?

Very interesting subject. Wheetsin, I hope you get it all figured out before Dawg and I fly to England! That's not only a lo-n-n-n-n-ng flight, but it's also going from high altitude to sea level. Will I be tight in the air and loose on vacation? *rubs chin* Hmm.. very interesting, indeed. And you know, I could have sworn that Dawg quoted Inamed's site where they recommend getting an unfill before flying. I'll have to look at that again.

    Protein Powder?

Soy Proteins are vegetable proteins. The body only absorbs about 30% of the ingested amount. Whey proteins are animal proteins and the body absorbs about 80-90% of them. Quoting the following article on isolates: http://www.bodybuildingforyou.com/health-nutrition/whey-protein-powder-1.htm "Due to the nature of the ion exchange process, the most valuable and health-promoting components are selectively depeleted. Though the Protein content is increased, many of the most important subractions are lost or greatly reduced." So, you can see why soy isolates would have even fewer benefits. You are basically paying a lot for a whole lot of nothing.. except gas pains. This is an excerpt from a NESTA certified training manual for personal trainer certification: "Although considered complete proteins, the human body does not possess the necessary enzymes to break down vegetable proteins and most of it ends up in the colon where bacteria gain access to it. Research has shown that most of the gas once thought to come from the Fiber found in vegetarian sources of protein such as Beans, is now known to be caused by the undigested vegetable protein instead." The Gone for Good Club

Pugmum - I usually eat dinner around 6ish, and am in bed by 10 or 11. Big gap there and that's when I get hungry. If I eat around 6:30 or 7 I do better. I've been eating four meals a day: 10:30, 12:30, 3:30 and 6:30 is a typical day for me. The first meal being Cereal for my Fiber, so it doesn't last long. My doctor wants me eating 3 meals a day, but I swear I don't know how I'd get enough calories. If you really can't stand it, and have to eat after 7.. try sugar free Jello. It's filling enough to see you through to bedtime, yet turns to liquid so doesn't hang around long. Maggie - Welcome to the club and thank you for your story! I admire the work you are doing but I can sure see how stressful it would be. My story of weight loss/gain is similar to yours. Feels good to finally have a hold of something that gives that control, doesn't it? Joe - Welcome to you too! Dawg and I did Atkins a few years back. It worked great for the first month or two but then stalled on us. And my cholesterol was through the roof. I'm feeling much better these days, and I'm guessing you are too. I'll get you two on the members list today. HeatherGurl - I just wanted to thank you for starting this group. Your idea is becoming a reality and I for one am really enjoying it. You need to speak up more though. I miss ya gurl! Everyone - I would really like to emphasize the fact that this is not "MY" thread. I keep the stats up for Heather because she can only get here during work hours. I am a very social person, love to talk to anyone and everyone, and (as many of you already know) I typically have something to say about everything. *grins* Please, please.. all of you remember that this club is YOURS, not mine, not Heather's. Jump in and comment, welcome new folks, share ideas about weight loss and the club, and take ownership. That's why we started the GFG Club! Tomorrow is weigh-in day for those who enjoy tracking their weight. I hope everyone is having a good week and that we see more exciting results like last week. Tricia and I have decided we won't be needing those tissues this week. :clap2: Please post tomorrow's weigh-in like this: C 261 (-46 lbs total, -4 this week)
  13. Well, I've only been at this for a few months now, but I seem to be losing at a steady rate so I'll chime in. I could pick out several things from each post so far. I eat between 800 - 1,000 calories per day. Only once did I manage to reach 1,200 and that's because I was eating beef instead of fish or chicken. I make sure to eat between 60 - 100 grams of Protein per day. I drink at least 64oz of Water. I weigh once a week, sometimes twice. But I'm trying to break the scale addiction. I try to walk on the treadmill or outside everyday.. 1/2 mile is my goal. Sometimes I can do more. I've been sedintary for a long time. We've joined a gym and will be going a few nights a week to swim or use the machines. We have no junk food in the house. I have a variety of foods that I enjoy, that are band friendly, and are high in protein. I keep these on hand at home so I don't have to think too hard about what I'm going to be eating each day. My shopping lists are simple. I don't want to have to think about food any more than I have to. When I go out to eat, I know exactly what I'm going to order and I do not look at the menu. With the exception of cottage cheese and potatoes.. I live by the saying, "If its white, it's not right". Bread, sugars, pastas, etc. These are all starchy, high carb, processed foods that provide nothing for my body in the way of nutrition. However, they do an excellent job of making me fat. So I've removed them from my life. I do not eat after 7pm, unless it's the weekend and I know I'm going to be up late. But even then, never after 9pm. I'm still trying to get myself to stop eating when I know I should. For some reason I keep wanting to clean my bowl. Actually, as I type this I've had a revelation. The meals I have the most problems with are the ones I eat in larger bowls. Most of my meals are eaten in 1 cup size bowls, but at dinner I use a Cereal bowl for my fish or chicken and veggies. By golly, Im going to start using the smaller bowls at dinner too! I can always go back and get more if I need it, right?
  14. *laughs* Brenda, I LOVE your exercising guys! Mind if I steal one of them? I haven't seen an exercise forum. I think maybe people are just starting exercise threads in the general discussion or lounge forums. I think. Hm.. *goes to look*

    Band removal in 12 hours...

Jonothan, I can only imagine the disappointment you're feeling right now. I mean, you've been feeling it for a while but tomorrow's the finality of it all, right? Did you decide not to have any other form of WLS done then? Or are you waiting to decide? If you posted the answer to that on your other thread, I apologize. I'm really trying to keep up with everyone, but its not always easy. I wish you the best tomorrow. I would think the removal would be much easier than the installation. I'll be hoping for a quick recovery for you.

    The Gone for Good Club

Pugmum - It's good to see ya back around again. I've really been hit with nighttime hunger lately. I just keep drinking water and assuring myself that I can eat when I get up. So far, so good but I can really relate. Daily goals update: The only thing I did that was on my list were things I could do sitting down. I've been in such a slump today.. I think I'm coming down with something. Bleh. Good thing is, weigh-in is going to rock this week. I've really made up for last week. *grins*

I am NOT the Energizer Bunny!

Shawn, I'm really glad to hear everything looked good with the bloodwork but you're right. That's good and bad news because you're still left with the unanswered question, "Why am I tired?" Have you tried taking a nap? (sorry, couldn't resist) John had a good point about calories. Do you know how much you're eating per day? And how active are you? Did your doctor go over all those questions with you?

    Lapband Webcast

Wow, this is awesome! I'm watching with great interest. Ok finished watching it. It's about an hour long and everyone who is interested in the band should watch it. They present a lot of information about the band, the pre and post op diets, they show how fills are done, and you get to watch the surgery via laproscopic cameras. Very cool. The video is about an hour long. Tricia, ya wimp. *laughs* I liked the part where they were stuffing their fingers and hands into the holes. Very cool. *grins*

    I am in a tunnel/help

I have a suggestion. Relax. Pick one thing that you can give up that will help you. If you drink a lot of pop, perhaps that would be a good place to start. Keep in mind that you are already on your journey. Perhaps it will help you be more excited about where you're going rather than being stressed about where you are. Chances are, the doc will put you on a pre-op diet that will help you drop a good chunk of weight in a few weeks time. Your goal right now should be to relax, make sensible choices, get some exercise in.. perhaps walk a bit, and don't gain more weight to take off later. The better shape you're in when you have your surgery, the quicker you'll recover. Start researching the types of foods you'll be eating after you're banded. And maybe try to incorporate some of them in your food choices now. You'll be fine. I think we panic about the idea of stepping through the doors of deprivation, so we start eating everything we can before its taken away. It's really not like that at all. So really, relax and get happy about the fact that you are on your way!
