So many of us have the same night time grazing compulsions. And I agree, empty the house of anything that your hands can find that will sabotage your success. I think it was Kare that said she bought two small lockable boxes (one for the cupboard and one for the fridge) which hold things she cannot allow around herself because of temptation. She gave the key to her son. Kryssa was certain her hubby wouldn't agree to getting the junk food out of the house, but to her surprise he agreed to keep and eat any junk food out of the house. Maybe its just a phase. It's so easy to trick the brain. After several times of having the urge, and then finding nothing to appease it with, maybe it will stop. Let's hope.

I knew full well when I went into this that the band was not going to magically take care of all my issues, nor would it allow me to continue eating as I had been and be successful with my weightloss. It was stressed over and over again as I went thru the pretests (which included a psyc evaluation that I failed and had to take again after I had been on meds for a while longer.. yep, I was a mess). Sure, a lot of us still need to work on the emotional side of weight issues, but the band is there to help us keep from falling too far along the wayside. Our binges aren't nearly what they used to be. So even if you do cave and have a cookie, chances are you wont be eating the entire package of Cookies - which is a HUGE step in preserving yourself. It has been said here that the band is not for everyone. If your emotional problems with eating are so extreme that you will find ways to destroy any good the band can do for you, then chances are it wasn't the ideal choice. I am not controlled by willpower. I am controlled by fear. I fear the PBs. I fear another failure. I fear diabetes. I fear death by food. For me, the band is a tool, just like an electric toothbrush. If I don't pick it up and use it as directed, my teeth aren't going to get clean. I think in order for your band to work, you're going to have to put aside the thought that it was supposed to be an end all to your problems and yes.. work with your band. Can someone hand me a rag please? I seem to have something gross on my shoes! *chuckles*

Hey Dorcas.. happy bandiversary! Sixty-five pounds gone. Wow! You must feel so much better. Even with the bad fill experiences *cringe* I'd have kicked her! I hope you recover quickly from your recent surgery, eat lots of protein! My doc has me on 100 grams of Protein per day for a wound I have and she said that could even be higher. So, for a quick recover, increase that protein some. I wonder if the surgery caused some swelling that's putting pressure on your tummy, causing the sliming and PBs? I've heard women say this happens more often when they are having their periods. Don't know for sure, but don't let it go on too long without talking to your doctor. "I wish all of you who visit this site peace whithin yourself...you need to love who u r not what u look like." What a very, very nice thing to wish for everyone. I wish the same for you.

Question: Was I too hard on the hubby?
PhotoNut replied to skbishop78's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Loopy, my mom taught me that saying only it went like this, "more truth is told in half jest" and Im telling you what, it is so true! You know whats interesting? Watching spouses when one of them starts to lose weight. I was married twice before and in both of those marriages I had to deal with the subtle sabotage. I've heard all kinds of theories about this but I think it probably boils down to (1) Fear of change in the spouse. (looks, attitude, whatever.. but I think looks is a big one) and (2) Loss of a partner in crime. (for the spouses that dont want to do anything about their weight). This is where good communication comes into play again. Tempting with food and teasing like thise about one's weightloss could (and I emphasize the word could because I dont want to assume anyone's motives) be signs of an insecure spouse that is afraid of the changes this "new you" will bring into their life. Just a thought. -
Leener! You left out Blue Oyster Cult! More cowbell!!

Dang girl, that has to be scary. You know, I was reading Gypsygirl's blog today, and she went thru so much trying to get a decent fill. Seems every time they over-filled her just a bit too much and then she had to get unfilled a bit. Honestly, I want the full benifit of the band, but Im really not looking forward to the fills. Partly because I'm worried about becoming too dependent on the band to keep me in line. It's great to have as a safety net, for the times we do slip up. A bandster's binge is a joke to what we all used to be able to do huh? So why haven't you been refilled? Is the band still slipped? What's going on? I think you need a hug. *gives you a big hug and smile* You'll make it through this. I know you must be so scared of the weight gain after all of this. Hang in there and lean on friends. Youre not alone.

Oh heck Josygirl.. none of us here think this is an easy ride. And these people who say they'll never see that 30 pounds again, or whatever, they had to work for it just like everyone else. Or, are you telling us that just because this is the early stages that this is easy for us? Because if that's the case, then you aren't being fair either. I haven't had a fill. I know I can eat more but I'm making myself stick to the amount I know Im supposed to eat by myself. The band isnt even working for me yet. The band doesn't make me stop eating, the band doesn't make me drink the right amount of Water every day, the band doesn't make me get off my lazy arse and walk on my new treadmill (up to a half a mile now! yay!). I've lost 35 pounds since December 20th. And I've worked for it. And dont think Im taking this personal, or pissed, because Im not. *smiles* A lot of people misread me. Im just trying to understand what your point was.

Very interesting comments Jack. So, are you saying what bandsters need to develop is 'won't power?' "I won't eat that (food, way, much) because I am determined that I won't be fat." Because if you are saying this, I fully agree, and here's why: I believe that our success or failure begins in the mind. As long as we tell ourselves that we 'won't' allow ourselves to overeat, induldge, skip that workout, slack on our Water, or fail.. then 90% of the work is done. I believe that when we give in to the demons that whisper to us daily, and begin to accept the fact that we are going to fail.. then we have already done so. I believe that we have a duty to each other here to continue to enforce the positive, rebuke the negative, and embrace the mindset of success. This is a weight loss - lap band support board. Not an I'm Obese and Miserable support board. We come here to find others who want to succeed. Not to link arms with those who are certain they and everyone around them will fail. I believe that statistics are a bunch of crap that cause us to take our eyes off of our goals and lose our faith. Just because others gave in, it doesn't mean I have to. I believe that when we do fail, we want others to fail with us. Nobody likes to stand out alone in a crowd of positive, successful people. I believe that only God can truly understand the mind of mankind. Therefore, I don't want to hear the brilliant studies of the guy in the office down the street that charges people $100 an hour and claims to have the answers to our problems. Most of them are just as screwed up as we are. I believe that when someone says, 'I will never gain that weight back again' we should all stand behind them and say 'Yes! Good for you!' Who are we to tell another that it's only a matter of time before they will fail? We all are aware that it's not going to be easy. Painfully aware. But that doesn't make it impossible. I believe I have just broken my vow to stay out of topics like this for a while. Oh well. Love me or hate me. This is what I believe.

The pillow is a wonderful help pressed to your tummy to counter the strain of the muscles. Also, if you roll on your side a bit, sitting up is easier. My hubby was always there with a helping hand too. Grats on your band! I hope youre up and about quickly.

Bye the time you read this, you will probably already be banded.. a bit sore.. grateful to be drinking and full of questions. So, first of all.. Grats on crossing over to the "other side" of bandland! And secondly, I hope you have a speedy recovery. Remember to sip slowly, get lots of rest, eat (drink) your protein, and walk as much as you can to get that gas cleared out. You're wonderful life is just about to become more wonderful! Cheers!

Awww, a you're a new mommie! Grats! I miss our retriever, best dog we ever had. ---------------------------------------- I have to confess, I was relieved (for you) when the title of this thread wasn't what I thought it was going to be. *snickers*

Question: Was I too hard on the hubby?
PhotoNut replied to skbishop78's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
omg.. Nessa! That is too funny!! Im all for being kind and loving, looking on the bright side of things, giving the benifit of the doubt to those I love and trust. But I have to agree on this one. Staceys hubby was laughing, meaning he was clearly only playing around but still. Bah on him for being such a dork! (psst.. good call on the hair loss thing! whatever works eh? *grin*) Nessa's hubby? He'd have been wearing the bucket on his head! (psst.. did you lick your fingers afterwards? LOL) -
