    Feb 24, 06 (Friday)

The 21st (Tues) was my six weeks follow-up appt with Dr. Cahn. I had lost 39 pounds. Got my first fill (1cc) and went on two days of liquids again. The first day I managed to drink a protein shake with the Slim Fast in it, and also a can of pureed Bean with Bacon soup. The next day I couldnt face the shakes so just had a can of soup. I was so hungry by Thursday that I could have eaten a house, but well.. no, I couldnt! heh Today I've been tired and really fighting the head hunger. It seems that just the idea of being off of the restricted diet has my brain working on overtime. It's almost like someone said, "Ok, youre diet is over. Go do what you want now." Wow, the brain is a crazy thing to deal with. Paul is doing just great too. 38.5 pounds down as of last Sunday. Dropped out of DeFelcha's challenge, but will be joining Heather's on March 1st. Will track the weekly loss there. Have been walking on the treadmill more. Can do about 15 mins, on a really good day I can do 20, at 2.2 - 2.4 mph. Seeing the nutritionist next week for food ideas. Need to eat more, not getting over 700 calories per day. At 50 pounds, we will update our pics.

Paula - I'm out of the mushies. Had my first fill on Tues, did the two days of liquids and now I'm on free range. Scary in so many ways! This thread started while I was on mushies and I avoided it until now! And I'm glad I did! *laughs* pineapple salsa sounded SO good to me!

    Hello

I know you! *waves hello to a fellow chatroom buddy* We're excited for ya RJ.. can't wait to have you join us in bandland. *big hugs*
  14. Lillster, first of all I don't think you need to be disappointed or worried about your weight. The first six weeks isn't about weight loss. It's about healing and letting your band get settled in as the swelling on your tummy goes down. Most of us put on a few pounds right after surgery, and again when we change from liquids to more solid foods - even mushies. This is very natural. So nevermind the weight loss for now ok? Anything you experience is a bonus! From what I've read and been told, what you eat isn't likely to cause erosion. However, do really be careful about eating foods that aren't kind to your tender swollen tummy right now. You could cause the band to slip out of its place by forcing things thru it that it's not ready for. Go over this checklist if you are having a hard time feeling full between eating times. Are you eating enough Protein? Min of 60 grams per day? Are you eating your protein first? Not filling up on carbs first and letting the protein go by uneaten? Proteins take longer to break down in the stomach so you feel full longer. Are you drinking fluids with your meals? If so, then you are washing the food thru the stomach and not allowing it to stay in your pouch to give you that fullness you need. Right now, your not supposed to be feeling any restriction. Most likely, you can eat as you always have, but that doesn't mean you should. This is only for a few more weeks and you're options for foods will increase greatly. To ensure the success of your operation and post op healing, take control of your situation and be good to yourself. There's plenty of time to eat the other stuff later on. Best of luck to you! Keep us posted on how you're doing ok?

This is my last unbanded Thursday...

Boy do I relate to trouble with the tape. Some of you know I've been being treated for a bad burn and have had to keep dressings on it. I tried using that tape and everytime I would welt up or when I pulled it off, it literally tore off my skin with it. Ow! I still have some marks left from five weeks ago. I sure hope they find something more suitable for you Wheetsin. It's hard enough dealing with the surgery pain without adding more to it. I'm really excited for you! I've been watching your posts, seeing you getting everything together, being so prepared. It's been cool to see. I can't wait to see that happy "I'm banded!" post from you! It will be here before ya know it! *hugs*

    Accidentally Ripped Off Steri Strip

I agree with Bandayed. I still had mine on at two weeks and my doc pulled them off. Unless you are seeing signs of trouble I would say its fine. But a call to the Dr is always a good thing - better safe than sorry eh? I have recently been under the care of a wound specialist. She told me that antibtiotic ointments such as Neosporin aren't the best things to use on wounds. The action of the ointment only lasts a short time, then it just becomes a breeding ground for bacteria. She said that Bacitracin is the stuff to use. Just an FYI for y'all.

    Getting there..

Wow a urine test. Be sure to study hard for that! They really are keeping an eye on you aren't they? heh It's always so neat to see others excited about getting closer to their banding date. I'm happy for ya DonnaMarie!
  19. Wow, it's been a while since I've seen this thread. It's very interesting. I'm reminded of the Ortiz thread where many ended up so upset with Dr. Pleatman for telling people to stop whining about the band and get a bypass. You really do push the bypass, Dr. Pleatman. I am curious about why you do, since the national stats are showing the the bypass surgery is far more dangerous and does not have good long lasting results. I mean, why take someone who is struggling with band issues and put them into something more extreme that will be completely irreversible, has a large number of complications that the patient lives with forever, and has poor long term success? Is there some reason you promote this procedure so strongly?
