  1. Hi everybody, here I go. After being fat my whole life I am finally claiming my right to be here and seeking the help I need. I hope to God I can get the doctors and insurance company to agree that I am worth it and deserving. If not I am afraid I will burst out in anger and rage. I have been dancing around with doctors heads in the sand and looking at me like everything is just fine as long as I take more pills and try to loose a bit of weight. Ive lost weight at times via full time effort and insane dedication and obsession to the process. As soon as real life kicks back in it hops back on. Oh but you have probably all been there, and this book has already been written a dozen times. I have a bmi45 and several comorbidities, sort of gazing into knee and hip problems too. My Insurance does pay for this procedure and I will be working with Brigham and Womens hospital, which is a Harvard teaching facility so hopefully can get through the approval process without too much fuss... I would love to know how that went for other people....Will you share? Listening is better than talking for me right now I think..:huh2::cool2:

that sounds a lot like my history...Never got better either...I wish I had had the surgical option earlier...I would have had a better life...I've wasted so much time with the struggle..( My baby, who is now 27 was 1lb 10 oz...can we say c- section...after that I could never get right..or concieve again...and the depression came on strong...) Go for it is my vote...love...let the lap band help you claim your life and right to health...

    Peanut Butter Issue

Got a psycholigist on board? time to go, its too soon for self sabotage!
  7. It's always bad to try to intrepret your own tests. The ones your surgeon had performed were probably more accurate that those your primary care doc ordered. Normal for obese people is not the same for the average population...If it was there would be less reason for the surgery...Have faith, with this help you will have much better numbers this time next year.

Hi..You are pretty young and with 2 babies maybe you deserve a bit more weight for a while. The decision is yours and yours alone...Make it for yourself. You won't be eating like everybody else anymore after it...Maybe you can loose the weight and make the changes without it. Just don't be like me and struggle year after year if your non band efforts don't stick...Were you always obese or just since the babies? If not your chances of success without the band are a bit better... I am 50 and was just about your size at your age...now I am at 250 ...wish Id had this option earlier...I hope to get surgery within a few month and feel really happy about it...Take care, love yourself and enjoy those babies...!
  9. I think bcbs is being really nice about the lap band...Mine came in 3 days!
  10. pat on the back to you...reward yourself...here are suggestions! Anything but food, take a long drive to somewhere beautiful and think.... sleep in, take a real long bath, buy some new music, get a pet, do some gardening, fly a kite or model airplane, paint, draw, go to a shooting range and plunk away, get a massage, clean your office, go rock hunting. carve a piece of driftwood, spend all day in a bookstore, go buy a jaunty hat......whatever floats your boat...just get off the couch and away from food thoughts....non food rewards yuhah go for it handsome!!!!
  11. Go angelvoice!!!!! you can do it! I swear its a food detox... time will heal! Your body is a good contraption and will ajust...you will feel better ...love!!!!
  12. I suspect that if you hang in there and keep trying somebody along the line will see that you have the capacity to stick to it. That is probably what they are looking for. I do suggest you stick with the same psychiatrist because shopping around is not something they will want to see. Good luck and patience...

    I need help

Call the best hospital in the area and sign up for their information session. It was fantastic in my case and they shared all the options and statistics. The most important thing is I felt incredible relief and encouragement! My surgeons appointment is April 14th and god willing a year from now I will be significantly healthier and this time it will not come back! Can you imagine! The other thing the info session brought home is that I DESERVE THIS HELP. Try that one on for sizs...and go for it!!!!!!!!!love
  14. Go Panda! Sorry you had to go through this but it will all be worth it in the end. I sure hope you have some before pictures because you have already done so well!!!! Isn't it nice to know that this weight loss effort will be a permanent one!!!! bless you and thanks for a really interesting thread...best of luck and keep up apprised!
  15. Hi...So am wondering what others have heard and how you decided upon which procedure. At first I thought the lap band but now my surgeon has explained more about the bypass and that sounds good to me. I will qualify either way so that is not an issue. How did you choose the lap band over the bypass?:smile2:
  16. thanks for the thoughtful response...ummmm
  17. I bet once the insurance is approved it will be by any physician that is an accepted care provider for the company. It might be worth the trouble to call your insurance company and explain your situation. Mention that you would be interested in another doctors opinion before proceeding. Though it will probably be difficult to get through to the right person on the phone I suspect it will be worth trying. Your insurance company, in spite of how you feel about them, has agreed with your doctor that you deserve the operation...They also want success for you and a healthy outcome! I had a similarly confusing situation with an injury my son had recieved. The surgeon backed out and in of treating him. After knashing my teeth and waiting I finally contacted my insurance company and they were fantastically helpful...I had to do my part but within 48hours my issues were resolved, we were in the hands of the best surgeon in Boston and my son was on the mend. I do think there are some surgeons with more skill or maybe pure guts than others. Not that yours is not but it might be worth considering. No need to be nice either...it will get you nowhere.
  18. is that true or are you trying to back out? Have you been under general anesthesia before successfully...?
  19. I think I would tell them when they ask me how I'm doing just before getting ready to do surgery...That way the medical people can access the situation in person and they probably know what better what is and is not so important. ( And you will already be there so the decision to postpone will be on them...and as inconvenient to them as to you...)
  20. have you really gone through all this to fail now...get over yourself! do anything but that. Go with the AA thing and just dont do it for the next 10 minutes...and another 10 ...and another 10... cut the self sabotage or forget about the surgery!
  21. tell her to keep out of your business.. I'ts your life and your decision... tell her discussun is over and if she cares she will support you unconditionally.

    I got the look...

Oh I have been having fun with this...Let's see... There is so much good advice out there why in the heck don't those fat people take it..what a bunch of idiots! All they need to do is walk, run ,take yoga, join curves, use slim fast, eat olive oil, avoid trans fats, swim, be honest, smoke like a chimney and only eat all organic food from Arizona, take hoodia, ephedra, leptotrim, slim quick, fat burners, vinegar, Fiber, citrus juice, do a good colin cleanse, meditate, fast, eat more often, eat less often, eat Breakfast, drink wine, not drink, skip sugar, eat chocolate, self actualize, think secret positive thoughts, visualize yourself thin, put a picture of a thin person on your fridge, put a picture of yourself on your fridge, have more sex (if you can get any), Take long baths and foooocus.... And I mean my god if they can't do any of those easy things why the heck not just eat 2o pounds of Protein and fat each day, get injected with pregnant womens urine or wear a copper and gold left spiral bracelet encrusted with rubies and peridot, and work with their transits? Good god there are so many easy and reliable solutions to fat peoples character flaws! Mostly they are just a bunch of lazy gluttons. Let' all talk about it while we watch the football game all day sunday...I'm on for the pizzas, you get the beer...who will bring the Ben and Jerrys? We are all the same after all...a calorie is a calorie jeeze. Wow, did you hear about that poor Paris or Lindsey...Such pretty things to take so many drugs and drink, drive drunk and behave so frightenly! I sure hope that waterfront 5 star spa/treatment center can help the poor girls with their difficult problems...poor girls...such a hard life! but they are strong beautiful girls and they will make it.:crying: Sorry to rant but I just have to...a little semi anonoymus indulgence:rolleyes: Seriously though...How in the world can insurance companies justify alcohol treatment centers at 30 days and $30000 or so and give obese people trouble if they want a lap band...hello! If we (I!) want help for either we deserve it. Compassion folks! Do unto others and all that stuff....And luck to all of us , we might be pioneers...but let's settle for being worthy of help to get healthier...Love to All... (though maybe not the fat bashers...just yet anyway:blush:)

    Smoking?

:lol:wow...consider that a gift of God or whatever out there is on your side. Hey,as long as you are going through all the addiction withdrawal why not a 2 for 1. good fidget factor ideas, knitting, beading, model making, painting blogging, cleaning, gardening...make a sailors valentine...paint your house, clean closets. Get an Ipod and plug in to happy music and books ( I love that...even though I am 50 and should be too old..it keeps my mind from overthinking... whoo possibly one of the traits of generation y:cool2: now thats disturbing but maybe not a bad thing...but thats another subject entirely:sleep:)...it all helps redirect. remember 30 days off smoking is a magic number...I hope you get there and stay there!..and great luck with your band too. How good you will feel to be so very clean and healthy after this crazy adjustment period! You will smell good too...how about bath salts and stuff to get your sniffer back in gear...buy a gardenia a week and keep it by your bed...that sniffer is a huge perk when you stop smoking...and just might help keep you off it! I suspect the only thing harder than giving up smoking is the food problem...The smoking is probably going to be the easy part if you let it... Hugs and all the prayers and best of results to you...Turnaround time!!!!! get your life back...:tt2::tt2::thumbup:what a ride!
