Addicted to My 600 pound life.
81Kellogram replied to Redmaxx's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congratulations Big Bird, losing 250lbs on your own is an amazing accomplishment! Plus you set yourself up for a great recovery. The exploitative nature of the show is another reason I can't stomach it. On the other hand, I watched one episode of the fat doc last night. It was educational, inspirational and brought me to tears a couple of times. I can't wait to watch more! -
Exercise after surgery. ALSO puree foods not filling me up
81Kellogram replied to kc13's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What does "back to normal" mean? Eating solid foods? I'm eating solid right now and can only do about 1 to 2 oz at a time. A cup of food per meal? I'm not even close. -
4 weeks out. liquids (except water) go down very well, like 10oz at a time. I can easily put away 4-6oz of pureed - especially yogurt. Soft and solid food isn't going well. eggs, about an ounce at a time and I tried Cod last night - maybe 2 tablespoons. Please tell me this gets better soon. I'm so frustrated with eating, I just want to stay in the pureed stage. I know I need to progress, so will it just happen naturally if I just stick with it? I'm not getting sick, just very full very fast.

I am not a doctor, but... (post-op diet progression)

Really great info! Since starting soft/solid food, I think I spit out more than I actually eat. After a few chews I think it's too dry and I just can't swallow. I can't fathom eating any kind of bread right now. -

I watched a few episodes of 600lb and it's far to frustrating and depressing. I'll try the fat doc show. -

I have that problem too. Eating cold eggs is no fun. -
When I told my NUT that I'm walking an hour a day he said I should try to get 800 calories per day and to never go below 500 calories. I'm four weeks.

12/1 and I've lost 18 pounds since surgery. As of today, that's 4 weeks and I was really hoping for 20lbs to be gone. I haven't lost anything for a week which is disconcerting after watching the scale go down pound by pound daily. I've tried eating less carbs, more carbs, less calories, more calories, drink more water, sleep a full 8 hours - nothing. My body is going to do what it's going to do and all I have to do is stick with the program. I'm done chasing it! I got other fish to fry like trying to eat solid food! Oy vey...

Studies show that watching for symptoms like fever and tachycardia are better indicators of a leak than a leak test. He said that most patients don't have leaks until they are home from the hospital anyway.

Extremely smooth. I had my initial consult with Dr. Sherrod and met with the nutritionist and exercise physiologist at the same time. Long appointment, but knocked it all out in one go. I was then given a list of all my pre-op requirements (psych, blood work, cardiologist) and told once they are complete, call to schedule pre-op appt. with doctor Sherrod. In all I saw Dr. Sherrod twice before surgery then my two week post-op appt. I'm now scheduled to see him in three months. Also know, he's not big on invasive testing and procedures. He doesn't do drains nor does he test for leaks after surgery. He also wants you in and out of the hospital as soon as possible. My surgery was at 9am and I was out by 1pm. That was the plan all along because I'm self pay and he didn't want me to rack up unnecessary hospital bills. If I had any complications or just not doing well after surgery, I would have stayed but luckily, everything went as smoothly as it could have.

Had my first puréed food, somebody talk me down!

For me, the point is just living. I was out shopping with my mom and sister and they were hungry. It can't be all about me all the time, especially when I can figure what to eat with little issue. -

Had my first post-op appt today and doctor cleared me for puréed. 2oz. of tuna salad, puréed smooth and I can't take it. I feel weak, broke out into a cold sweat and I just want to drink some water so bad but it's only been 15 minutes. Do I need to eat less? I spent about 20 minutes eating it, was that too fast? I even chewed when there wasn't anything to chew! Oh man, I think I'm going to miss my liquids . . . -
What You Wish Someone Told You Before Surgery

I'm only 17 days post op, but one thing I've realized is that everyone's experience is completely unique. Use all available info to prepare yourself, but there will be something about your recovery that you're completely unprepared for. When that happens, don't freak out, call your doctor and do your research. Good luck, -

Luckily, soft scrambled eggs are my favorite! So far, I haven't had anymore problems. I think I gobbled up the tuna too fast. I'm pacing myself much better now. I went to a Mexican restaurant yesterday. Ordered some avocado slices (mushed them at the table), refried Beans and sour cream. So good! My Mom said with a concerned look, "Is that all you're eating?" Then I had to tell her that I wasn't going to make even a dent in the portions they gave me. And I didn't, I had maybe 2Tbls each of the beans and avocado. Then Mom asked me if I want some lemon in my Water. Poor Mom, she was practically inconsolable when I told her a can't drink and eat at the same time. Seems like I'm taking my life-changing surgery much better than my family. My Mom was my biggest weight critic since childhood. I didn't see it before but now I do - she was also my biggest enabler. -

Maybe the mayo? It was premade from WF so full fat mayo. I think I'm going to try some plain whipped sweet potato and see what happens. -

Thanks. This is going to be a serious learning curve. I totally get the slow progression to solid food now. Probably TMI, but right after I posted, I had diarrhea. That's not dumping is it? I didn't have nausea. -
At the 38th st location in Austin. I'm from SM, and it takes about an hour to get there with the horrid i35 traffic.

Yes, he did my sleeve two weeks ago at St Davids. I've had the best experience with him, his staff and the staff at St Davids. He seems to be in a hurry all the time, but had no problem answering all my questions.

Start slow and get clearance from your doctor. I like to lift heavy and had a pretty good 3x a week schedule going prior to surgery on top of cycling & kick boxing. I'm only in my second week post-op and doc wants me to wait a minimum of six weeks before lifting again. I'm looking forward to my regular workout schedule, this walking is for the birds!

Favorite Purée foods?
81Kellogram replied to Moon Princess's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, I was allowed to have scrambled eggs during the pureed phase. But I couldn't have hard boiled eggs until the soft stage, which is where I am now. My first post-op appt is this Friday, I'm asking about the eggs - would love love love some scrambled eggs! -

My plan says that eggs are in the "soft food" stage, but you guys can eat them during the pureed stage? -

December sleeves 2016
81Kellogram replied to sunsetsue's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Just weighed myself. I'm 10.5 lbs down in a week! My doctor said during surgery they gave me a anesthetic that would last a couple of days so I felt pretty pain free until that second day. I wish he had prepared me a little more for how painful that main incision was going to be.
