1st actual meal 23 days POSt Op
JøAnna replied to Gucci's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Everyone's post-op plan is different, I'm on week 7 and I'm allowed to start introducing basically any food chewed very well, just no more than 1/2 cup, although I've been sticking to small salad with little bits of shredded turkey. My plan is in no way close to others I've seen on here Sent from my SamsungGalaxy using BariatricPal App -
In my opinion, the surgery felt like I had pulled muscles which were gone by day 4 post op. My surgeon doesn't rely on pain meds so I only had iv tylenol before going in and afterwards no pain meds at all. Not that I needed any. Only wish I was allowed something for the sore throat I had from the tube that was put in my throat during surgery. When I got home I only used ice packs for the large incision on my right side. Everyone experiences different pain tolerances though. But I think you should go for the surgery. Healthier lifestyle outweighs the small amount of surgery pain. I know all doctor's have their own post-op diet programs, I just wanted to share what mine and see the differences with everyone. Sent from my SamsungGalaxy using BariatricPal App

My doctor is very detailed oriented that's for sure. What were you allowed to have during your first week? Sent from my SamsungGalaxy using BariatricPal App Just liquids. I'm starting week 3 tomorrow, and I am finally allowed to start on some softer foods. I have tried mash potatoes, greek yogurt, and chicken, and Beans already. Happy to report it all went well. I can't have more than one teaspoon at a time though. Or else just like a little baby it gets stuck, and I may have to get it up again. (disgusting) I hope you are doing well during your week 3. I was able to start week 3 on Friday. I was so sick of mashed potatoes after week 2. I'm also so glad to be off the Protein shakes. I'm able to have 1/2 an egg, up to 1/4 cup of tuna, 1/4 - 1/2 piece of whole wheat toast or 1-2 crackers. Sent from my SamsungGalaxy using BariatricPal App

I am so glad I bought a package of baby spoons from the dollar store right before I started my second week. Since I'm allowed to have up to 2 tablespoons of applesauce, light yogurt, mashed potatoes or oatmeal for each meal 3 times a day. The baby spoons not only make it easier to eat over 20 minutes, the smaller spoons I think will trick my brain into not wanting bigger portions like before surgery. Today I was able to start having applesauce, plain/light yogurt, mashed potatoes or low-sugar oatmeal. Starting with one teaspoon and work my way up to 2 tablespoons by next Friday. I loved applesauce before my surgery so that's what I started with this morning and my stomach did not agree with it at all. I had light yogurt for lunch & dinner and it hasn't bothered me at all. I hope at some point my stomach can tolerate applesauce better but in the meantime, I'm quite happy being able to have yogurt instead of just liquids Sent from my SamsungGalaxy using BariatricPal App

Finally updating 6 days post op because the first few days home from the hospital I was extremely tired and all I basically did was sleep in between sipping liquids and my protein shakes. Surprisingly, I wasn't even nervous going into the surgery. The only thing I was nervous about, was the possibility of my nose piercings closing lol, luckily they didn't The overnight stay in the hospital was alright, the staff were fantastic but the bed killed my back so I was very uncomfortable. The hospital volunteer guild gave flowers and a Thanksgiving card created by school children to patients which was really sweet. Happily I was discharged Thanksgiving afternoon, which was great because I was unsure about if my doctor would come in on a holiday. Also, before leaving my doctor gave me a 25oz purple water bottle and a big totebag with their office information on them. Anyways, I'm feeling pretty good now, I hardly have any pain, yesterday I accidentally leaned my bellybutton incision against the bathroom sink while washing my hands and that stung a little but mostly the incisions are starting to itch and the surgical glue is coming off, I was also able to take my regular daily pills since yesterday, Saturday I gagged them up, I haven't been ridiculously freezing yesterday like I was the couple days before which is fantastic because that sucked. I'm able to drink a lot more, not quite 64oz but getting there. My doctor has my new weeks starting each Friday and I can't wait until this Friday (week 2) so I can start having yogurt, applesauce, mashed potatoes and oatmeal instead of just 4 ounces of protein shakes 3 times a day, water, diluted juice, and chicken broth. Oh, and even though I've weighed myself, I'm going to wait a few more days to update because I want to be sure all the gas pumped into my abdomen is gone. Patience and following the complete lifestyle change instructions are key to success. HW: 288 SW: 268 CW: ? Sent from my SamsungGalaxy using BariatricPal App

I'm amazed by everyone's plans. Congratulations and keep up the good work. I'm going to attach my doctor's post-op Vitamin instructions and tips for long term success just for comparing purposes if anyone wants to share those as well. Sent from my SamsungGalaxy using BariatricPal App

@@jwinters19 @@Rachel412 I don't know if I could follow your guy's plan being on liquids for so long. I praise and envy your determinations! Sent from my SamsungGalaxy using BariatricPal App

My doctor doesn't like to rely on liquid calories. Every program is different but they all get us great results in the long run Sent from my SamsungGalaxy using BariatricPal App

I also want to add that my doctor doesn't like to give pain meds unless it's absolutely necessary, I couldn't even have something to numb my throat in the hospital when it was so sore from the tube they used during surgery, so I was on absolutely nothing when I left the hospital and haven't needed to used any tylenol either. Congrats to you as well I agree about keeping each other posted. Maybe it's from the swelling going down in our abdomen. I really have no idea... Sent from my SamsungGalaxy using BariatricPal App

Could someone tell me if it's normal to be having what feels like hunger pangs so early after surgery? It started last night around 6pm and happened again today around 2pm. I'm drinking my liquids and Protein shakes like I'm suppose to. I don't know, maybe I'm just paranoid about something being wrong. Patience and following the complete lifestyle change instructions are key to success. ???? HW: 288 SW: 268 CW: ? Sent from my SamsungGalaxy using BariatricPal App
