I retired from the US Navy in 1996 after getting sick and hospitalized for 6 months. During that time I gained from 165 to 280. After retirement I continued to gain weight up to 453 pounds. I realized that I had a problem when I could not reach my feet to tie my shoes.
I walked of 100 pounds over then next 2 years but could not break past 350 for the next 15 years. The Veterans Administration offered me bypass surgery in 2008 but then denied it based on eating habits.
I went outside the VA for another opinion in 2016 with my wife who is also preparing for surgery. I was approved and set out to complete dietary and mental health requirements. I joined TOPS MO 9733 Fairvew to help gain knowledge and insight to weight loss and then had surgery in November of 2016. As of today I am 6 weeks post surgery and at a loss of 51 pounds. I once again have stalled but with increased exercise I should continue where I left off.
