Unfortunately, it took a while for my pain to go away. I was in significant pain for about 1.5 months after I started the blood thinner then it started to improve. In total, I would say it took a good 3 months until the pain subsided entirely. My vascular surgeon is keeping me on the blood thinners for an additional three months to make sure the clot has dissolved. This will bring my total time on blood thinners to 9 months. Ultimately, as you have probably discovered, there aren't many online resources available on this topic because these clots are pretty rare. I did eventually find a message board made up of people with these types of clots, but it seemed like most of the people on there were still dealing with the clot pain years later. Once I read that, I had no issue with taking the blood thinner if it would eventually dissolve the clot and eliminate the significant pain that it was causing. Stay strong, you will make it through this awful pain and it will eventually seem like it was just a blip on the screen to your lighter self. For a while I doubted my decision to have the surgery because I ended up with the clot as a result, but now seeing the results 7 months out I have no regrets.

11/1/16 HW: 317 SW: 298 CW: 230 I started the 2 week prep diet at 311. So I lost 13 pounds on the diet before surgery and 68 pounds since surgery. 81 pounds total. I usually lose a couple of pounds over the course of a month then experience a 1-3 day timeframe where I drop 7-11 pounds. I'm actually due for that whoosh right now, and I must admit despite my progress it's still frustrating that it hasn't happened yet. -
What's your average weightloss for 6 months?
spartan43560 replied to Red_lips_and_confidence's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This is a great question. I'm only 7 weeks out and have found myself trying to analyze all of the weight data the 6-7-8 month sleevers share. Certainly everyone's journey and weight loss is different, but there should be some average ranges that people fall between? Thanks for this thread! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

I was sleeved on Nov. 1 and about two weeks later was back in the hospital with an intestinal blood clot. The pain was excruciating -- I literally felt like I was dying. I've been on blood thinners for a month now and the pain has mostly subsided. There are still random days when I have pain, but it's much better one month out. Did the doc say if your clot is in your intestines? If it is, my understanding is that you and I are part of a VERY small club of sleevers. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Intestinal blood clot after gastric sleeve
spartan43560 replied to spartan43560's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
From what my surgeon said, it's pretty rare for them to see this from surgery. They did give me blood thinners plus amped me up on heparin, fluids and pain killers for a week while I was at the hospital. That's good to know that the pain from your clot in the kidney started to let up after 2 weeks. Thanks everyone for your thoughts! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Intestinal blood clot after gastric sleeve
spartan43560 posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Just wondering if anyone else out there has developed a blood clot in their intestinal veins after gastric sleeve surgery? I had my surgery Nov. 1. I was back in the hospital Nov. 12 with SEVERE pain in my intestines. Finally, they discovered the blood clot on Nov. 13. My surgeon says that this type of clot is rare. Now that I am a week out from that, I am on blood thinners but wondering how long the intestinal pain will last. Whenever I eat or drink ANYTHING my intestines now are terribly pain ridden. My surgeon said I will have the pain for a while, but couldn't be exact. There have been SOOO many times in the past week where I have asked myself why I went through with the sleeve procedure due to the intestinal pain. Just wondering if anyone knows how long until the intestines heal from this? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
