Can you be to overweight for lap band
JJB replied to catherinecon's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
My aunt was 465 when she got her band. She is now 225!! She feels great and looks amazing!!! Her family Dr wanted her to get bypass but she said no. Thank god because she has had great results! -
Im sorry you are having such a bad time. I was banded in 2006. I have had severe shoulder pain from day one. I have to take tramadol for the pain. Not really happy about that but it is horrible. I am trying to get my band replaced with the newer one. I just really feel it is positioned wrong and hitting a nerve. I have to wait for insurance to hopefuly say yes. I cant get any fills because it makes the pain worse. I had lost 114. Now I have gained 40 back. :-( I hope things get better for you. I told my Dr I never want it removed because I know how fast m weight would go back up. Good luck!

I have very thick hair and I lost alot of it for about a year after my band. It was so scary and got so bad that I would cry while doing my hair. Luckily I didnt go bald and it did come back better then ever. I spent alot of money on biotin and vitamins and also protien shakes. Nothing worked for me but time. It kind of has to run its course i think. Its been 4 years and i still shed more then I did but it is nice and thick again. Good luck to you. It will slow down.

I just wanted to see if you have found any relief from the shoulder pain yet. I have not. I had surgery Monday so they could look at my band to see if there is some kind of scar tissue build up or something. Well they found nothing and ended up taking out my gall bladder. They think that might have been causing some of the gas that caused my shoulder pain. It is still there though and has not changed at all. I to am very discouraged. I hope things are working out for you.

I have had my band for 3 years now and have had shoulder pain for most of that time. It is horrible. In fact my Dr thought it might be scar tissue build up around my band so they went in to check it out this Monday. They ended up taking my gall bladder but found nothing wrong with my band. So I am back to the beginning now. I cant get a fill because it makes the pain much worse. They are hoping that taking out my gall bladder might help. So far it has not but maybe I am just feeling the gas from surgery. It is so frustrating. To be hones the only way I can make it on some days is by taking pain meds. I am a mom and when this pain is really bad which is right before my time of the month I can not function without something strong. I can usually handle pain pretty well. But this really knocks me on my butt. I hate to scare people who are considering getting the band. I do not regret getting it all and my biggest fear is that I will have to get it taken out. Sorry to go on and on about this. I just really hope that this surgery I had Monday was not for nothing. Good luck to all of you who are having this. I hope they figure it out soon.

From Supportive Husband to Insecure Husband..
JJB replied to jenz75's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I am sorry that you are going through this. I remember before I got my surgery my husband met a man whose wife had lap band and told him that she changed after her surgery and left him. I am realizing that in my opinion most of the time it is them that changes. I just told my husband that the other day when he was checking up on me. He had never ever checked on me before and now he does. He said it is because I was never a social person and now I am very social and he admits that it kind of makes him insecure. Luckily we talk about it alot and I tell him I understand. But he has never been mean to me about it. You should deffinitly tell your husband it is in his best interest to go get some counseling with you. Maybe if he sees you going he will agree. I can totally understand the insecure thing but there is no reason he should be mean to you. Good luck and hang in there. -

You will lose weight and he will still love you. My husband loved me totally at 319. He acts like my weight loss has not changed how he feels. But I see how much he enjoys looking at me when we are alone and he is really enjoying it. I was so lucky to have someone who loved me regardless. But I could have never imagined how much WE would enjoy my weight loss. Good luck to you! -
From Supportive Husband to Insecure Husband..

I am going through this with my husband of 10 years now. I was always a bigger girl and I think this has been very hard for him. He is happy for me and we are really enjoying the new body I have. But he does fear that I will not know how to handle myself if the oppertunity comes up. I dont feel he is being a jealous husband. I just feel he knows he has a good thing and is scared to lose it. I know that the attention I get now is totally new to me and I can see how it could be a problem for some people. I love my husband and family enough that I can controle myself. But I deffinitly understand why he feels this way. I hate the way people try to make our husbands out to be jealous or insecure. Its the real world and I see alot of people lose people that they love and trust all the time. These men just love us no matter what size we are and are scared to lose us. I am blessed to have a husband like that. At times it does get annoying. But I sat down with him this past weekend and just told him I understand where he is coming from but he has to change the way he approaches matters. I just want him to talk to me when he feels this way and not instantly go off like I have done something wrong. I am just trying to be understanding. -
I have been married for 10 years and my husband has never heard me pass gas either. Everyone thinks I am crazy so it is nice to know that someone else is the same way. It is hard though. I also have a lot of gas. I just go out of the room a lot. Good luck to you.

I had it at my mother n laws about 2 weeks ago. I got such bad gas that I was in pain for 2 days. Since I got my band I get gas very easy. But I have to say that was the worse I have ever had.

I dont know if this has already been said or not but you know your a bandster when you always have a sweater in your car just in case you get cold when you go somewhere.

I have a friend who is thinking about getting the lap band. I am not sure what his weight is. I just wanted to see if anyone might know what the weight limit is. I know that my Dr. has a cut off but I am not sure what it is. Any info would help. Thanks.

Wow! I am so sorry for all that you have been through. I pray that I never have to lose my band. I have had really bad shoulder pain since day one. That was over 2 years ago. But I still do not want to go back to my original weight. I know that I would also go right back to eating like I did before. I wish you all the best and thanks for sharing.

I am very bad and eat a lot of sweets. Luckily I have not had anything like that happen. Man would I be in trouble.

I think he is full of crap. I lost 114 and just had a TT 2 months ago. My Dr has seen several people with over 100 pounds lost. But I have to agree with another person on here. My plastic surgeon also has very bad bed side manners. I had heard from a few people that he is totally different when it comes to the girls who are in shape and just coming in for a boob job. It was proven when I brought my best friend with me to one of my follow ups and she is beautiful. Well he was so nice to me and just talking away. I could not believe it. I was kind of mad but had to just blow it off. They really can be such jerks.

I will deffinitly let you know. I am having my surgery tomorrow. I really hope it makes some kind of difference. I notice mine a lot more when I am hungry. Its almost like air gets in ther or something. I cant eat anything after midnight tonight and my surgery is not untill 1:00 tomorrow. So by then I am going to be ready to get knocked out because of the pain. I will let you know if it changes anything.

Poll: What really works for hair loss?
JJB replied to Anyalee's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I lost about 50% after about the 4th month. Luckily I had very thick hair. It has grown back now. I still shed a lot but not enough that I worry like before. I waisted so much money on Biotin, Nioxin shampoo and protien powders. I finally gave up and it eventually stopped. I just feel bad because so many people waist so much money on all of these products and just from my experiance all it takes is time. -
HELP - Band May Have Completely Closed!!!
JJB replied to KINGSKID66's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Please keep us updated on how you are doing. I hope by now that you have called your Dr or went to the ER. Two days is really a long time to go without food or water. I hope your better soon. -
Well I am going for it and getting a tummy tuck next Thursday. I am so excited and scared. I never thought I would be able to do this or come this far. I guess I have kind of done my own make over. First I got my braces and then my lap band. After losing the weight I had to get a small loan for breast aug. And now that we have paid that off I am getting a TT. I am going to make a show about it. Just kidding. But I do feel like I am in one of those make over shows I have watched on tv. I am just really scared having this surgery because my Dr said it will be about 4 hours. I have to get the TT and lipo on the outside of each of my hips because I have a big bump there for some reason. I know I will be ok. But it is hard leaving my 2 boys to have a surgery that is just for looks. It kind of makes me feel selfish. If something were to happen to me because of this it would be horrible. So if any of you have any good stories about having this done please fill me in ok. Thanks to all of you for always being there.

I am 2 years out and still have it to. I hate it. Today it is real bad and the only thing that works is pain meds. I hate having to depend on them so often but that is the only way I can get through the day sometimes. I just feel like if they could move things around in there a little it might get better. You said your neck gets swollen sometyimes from it. Well I have had a weird feeling in the left part of my neck for over a year now. I have had all kinds of tests done and they can not figure out what it is. Now I am wondering if it could be from this. Of coarse my band dr says it is not related but I think they dont like to admit there are any side affects with the band. I am having my tummy tuck next week and I am hoping that it helps move something around some how and I wake up and never have the pain again. I dont think I would ever give up my band because of it. I just pray it goes away some day. Good luck to you. I know it sucks!

My Dr told me that it is because we are not taking in as many calories so our body is not working as much to break down everything. It totally makes since to me because I know when I have a fill and do not eat a lot I get VERY cold for a couple days. So I guess the less calories the colder we get. I know it is not the insulation thing because I am still a chubby chick and my husband is thin. He is always saying I need to turn the air down because he is hot. I would much rather always being cold then ho though. Our electric bill is much smaller now to!

HELP!!!!!!!!!! I am losing my long hair by the handful.
JJB replied to Freebird's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I lost a lot of hair after my surgery. I also waisted a lot of money on Nioxin and all kinds of vitamins. I was just hoping something would work. My Dr told me it just takes time. And he was right. It lasted for a few months. And although my hair did get pretty thin it was not noticable to anyone but me. So please try not to waste to much time freaking out. It really will stop and grow back soon. Mine lasted for a couple months and then just stopped. Good luck to you. -
My left shoulder hurts when my stomach is empty. I can feel air in there and it is so painful.
-
This is just my opinion. I had my band surgery 2 years ago and I lost about 50% of my hair. I spent sooo much money on protein shakes, vitamins and nioxin shampoo. Nothing worked but time. It has totally grown back. But it was very difficult watching it leave. I know how you feel and I am sorry that you are going through this. But it will get better. It lasted about 4 to 5 months for me. As much as I was losing every day I thought I was going to go bald but one day it stopped and I was so relieved. Good luck to you. And if the thing about protein and vitamins were true then most of the people I have worked with that were homeless or on major drugs would be bald. Because a lot of them go without eating for a day or two at a time. But most of them have pretty nice so try not to waste to much money. Good luck to you all!

poll on left shoulder pain
JJB replied to ajoneen's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I have went to my surgeon a couple times and they act like I am the only one and they have never heard of it happening. He said he does not think it is related to the band. But I know it is and it really bothers me that they act like I am so abnormal. They are working with insurance to see if they can go in and replace my band with a bigger one that might not be as hard on my stomach. Last I heard she said that they wont cover it because there is not even a code for this to give to insurance. I live with this pain every day and would love to have it taken care of. But I dont see that happening. They said that insurance would pay to take the band out and I said no way. I would rather have this the rest of my life than lose my band. Sorry to go on and on. Two years is just a long time to go through this. Good luck to all of you.
