Any May Sleevers?
NewChiGirl replied to Heres2SecondChances's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Glad to hear you are feeling better!! Day 3 of pre-op diet! So far, so good. Haven't cheated, feeling more tired, having cravings but keep looking to the finish line for inspiration. Good luck to all!! -
This has been a long time coming, I've been in the bariatric program since September. My insurance coordinator assured me before that it would be almost impossible to get a revision and sleeve approved and today she called me that I was approved!!! My eyes filled with tears of joy!!! 5/23 is my date, it is less than the typical 14 days of pre-op liquid diet, will that make any difference? I am still waiting to hear from my surgeon's office for complete instructions. Please send me any and all of your tips/tricks/advice on pre-op diet and how to best prep for my big day. Also, how long did you stay in the hospital? Sooooo thankful and excited!!!! [emoji28][emoji1317] Thanks in advance!

No, there isn't a required amount but they like to see a loss which proves that you have modified your behavior, changed your habits and are serious about the program. The dietician said it was normal to gain during a "band holiday". You simply have no restriction and are much more hungry. I survived today!!! I had 8 oz of beef broth twice and I think that saltiness helped me feel a little more normal.

I've never been in ketosis. What does it feel like? I had shoulder surgery in January and subsequently lost 11 pounds during recovery and then doctor removed all the fluid from the band and they basically said insurance would only cover band removal. I gained those 11 back because of zero restriction. The doctor's nurse hasn't realized I gained even though I was going to Dietician appointments and was being weighed in. I hope it doesn't cause a delay and I can get re-lose those 11 plus a few more!

Thank you! My pre-op consists of 800 calories - 5 protein shakes, broth, sf popsicles, Powerade zero and water enhancers. Good luck to you as well!!

Hi everyone, This is my first post! I'm 1/2 way done with my 6 month insurance requirements. I had lapband placed 1/2008 and had zero success. My doctor said he would like to do the sleeve on me but bypass is an option depending on what he finds with scarring. I'm fine with either procedure. My question is what are the possible complications with bypass? The one I'm most curious about is when the intestines wrap around or get tangled. Something about when theY are placed back inside the body they are incased in fat and as you lose weight the intestines become loose as well? Does that sound familiar to anyone? Any information would be great. Thanks!! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Band to bypass complications

I'm a little late to this post, but I haven't been on the site in quite some time. My cousin had the issue you are concerned with.......her intestines wrapped and got tangled. She was very sick for a long time, but once they discovered it and she had surgery to repair, she was fine. Thanks for replying! What kind of symptoms did she have? Is she doing well now? So frustrated. I'm on month 5 of my 6 month WL program for conversion from lap band go either sleeve or Rny. My doctor has a new nurse and she drops a bomb on me this morning that I have to lose about 30lbs before surgery or he won't do it, which is potentially mid March. What??? This is the first mention of this in the entire 5 months. If I could 15lbs a month with the band I wouldn't be here. I am the most compliant patient ever and do everything they tell me to a T. I've made diet and exercise changes that the NUT asked me to and my weight is still basically up and down the same 5lbs. I don't even know what to do... ETA: My band is still so tight most days that I vomit and cannot get concrete food down. I have 1.5 in my band. This current surgeon is not the one who originally placed my band. I was scheduled for my psych eval today and I got a feeling from the scheduler that it is not an easy thing to get an approval from them. I'm converting from band to RNY or Sleeve - surgeon said it depends on what the scar tissue situation looks like. My questions are: 1- how long did your eval last? 2- if you "failed" what were your next steps? 3- how did you prep or can you even prep for the eval? 4- what else can I expect? Thanks!! Oh wow, that sounds easy enough. I was also told that I would be getting a questionnaire in the mail that I had to fill out before I came in. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Mine took about 2 hours. The 1st time I went through this process about 6 yrs ago, they didn't approve me. They stated I had a lot going on in my life and felt I wouldn't succeed. This time around, I'm in a better place. You can't prepare for this. They are looking for feelers. How do you handle stress, what is your support system, have you ever been depressed, if so, how did you deal with it, what going on in your life currently, etc.... they are trying to determine if you will be a success or not succeed after surgery. Just go in there, be yourself, know your weaknesses and plan of action. Good luck! You'll do great Loving Me Thanks for replying!! I feel like *just* because I'm converting they may not approve me - for my lack of success the first time. I feel like I have a great support system and have actively learned the new aspects of the surgery and implemented them and still carry many of the old lessons and lifestyle changes I learned from when I was banded. The lady that scheduled me freaked me out. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Band to bypass complications
NewChiGirl replied to NewChiGirl's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Thanks so much for the feedback! Good luck to you, I hope you get things sorted out. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App I've had no complications but I'm only 6 days out from RNY . I had my band removed in April, my surgeon refuses to do the two surgeries together because the bands create so much scar tissue on the stomach that needs to heal. The RNY surgery was much less painful than the band placement. I had a 2-day stay in the hospital when I was taking narcotics because they're fun, but since I've been home I've only had OTC liquid Tylenol and honestly, I rarely need it! That is awesome! Thanks for the info! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
