    March 2019 sleepers

This is my 3rd bariatric surgery. Taking it one day at a time for the pre-op diet is key. Make sure you space out your protein shakes equally throughout the day and stay hydrated with water (crystal light, no sugar drinks) and broth. If you know you have a bad habit of late night eating plan for that by getting to bed early or just keeping busy and preoccupied. Boredom is not your friend during the liquid diet phase. Good luck!!
  2. That is so classless and tacky!! Sorry you had to go through that.

Anyone get a March date yet?

Every surgery I’ve had the surgical department called the day before with the arrival time and additional details. If surgery is on a Monday, they call on Friday. They might change it, seems like really late in the day. Good luck!

  9. Wooohoooo!!!! Found out this afternoon I was approved for surgery!!
  10. It is very strange. Everyone I talked to on BariatricPal has said once their doctor put in “medically necessary” the insurance providers approved. My insurance coordinator said once they see bariatric surgery they default under the rules of their bariatric requirements even though the revision isn’t for weight loss but GERD
  11. I did an accelerated bariatric program just so they could teach me how to eat and that I have all the knowledge I need for gastric bypass. The surgery is 100% for the GERD and hernia repair. I’m in Illinois and they’re saying BCBS is taking up to 8 weeks!!
  12. I have to have a revision b/c of GERD and need a hiatal hernia fixed. Waiting on insurance approval. Praying for approval. Best of luck!!
  13. Hi all! I’m a lapband to VSG to soon to be RNY convert. Due to severe reflux and a hiatal hernia Dr. thinks RNY would be the best option for me. He did say my risk increases for leaks because of previous surgeries. I’m curious to hear about stories from anyone who has had this surgical path with all three procedures and from those who have had leaks. Thanks for the information!!

    Anyone with leaks?

Oh my, I am so sorry to hear that. What were your symptoms? Did you go home with drains immediately after surgery? What was going on it those 49 days? I’m so happy to hear you are better.

    Anyone with leaks?

I did contact but they’re so vague. While it is a bariatric surgery the reason isn’t for weight loss it’s for the reflux and that’s what we’re hoping they can present to the insurance. We shall see.

    Anyone with leaks?

With the band I lost a maximum of 30 lbs, then I had the sleeve done 9 years later and I lost 75lbs, but have regained about 20 because some bad stuff doesn’t give me reflux.

    Anyone with leaks?

I do not have a date yet, only because even though this is medically necessary according to the doctor they’re not sure what insurance is going to do. So they’re having me do an accelerated bariatric program so they have a lot of evidence for insurance to get an approval. I’m hoping in the next couple of months because the GERD is very severe, Doctor said some of the worst he’s seen.

    Anyone with leaks?

Right, it makes sense that they would mention all that because they are all possibilities even if they are small ones surgeons should make their patients aware so they can make the best informed decision for their health. Glad to hear you are getting better. Did you do a leak test before you left the hospital? How’s drinking?

    Anyone with leaks?

How are you feeling? Did your doctor mention the increased risk?
  20. Ellie123 I’ve been following your posts and pm’d you...can you please take a peak? Please 🙏🏻
  21. Hi all!! I had the band removed and was sleeved on 5/2017. I immediately had bad reflux but was told to just keep taking the meds. Here I am today 17 months out with extremely bad reflux. I’ve regained about 20lbs because only crackers and bread don’t give me flare ups. I’m choking nightly even while sleeping on three pillows and can’t eat anything without acid attacks. I switched surgeons offices because I kept getting the runaround from the sleeve doctor. So far in the past 6 weeks with my new doctor I’ve had an endoscopy which showed a hiatal hernia, esophageal weakness, I’ve had the 96 hour Bravo ph test which showed severe reflux. Tomorrow I am having post prandial esophageal manometry to check pressures and such. My current doctor is an esophageal specialist and has already suggested he cant do much in the way of help except changing meds which he has already done. He did suggest at my next appointment with him to also meet with his bariatric partner to discuss surgery. If they suggest RNY, is that considered reflux surgery or a bariatric revision in the eyes of insurance? Thanks!!

    Revision?

Orchids&Dragons I am hoping that is how my insurance will see this!! Thanks for your reply.
  23. NewChiGirl

    Revision?

Elcee I had reflux with the band as well so I’m not really sure why he chose sleeve for me, I wasn’t really given a choice. I’m really upset because I did so well with the weight loss and now if I don’t get the reflux under control somehow It’ll be a waste.

    Surgery

How is your insurance covering this? As a revision bariatric procedure or as reflux surgery? I think it’s normal to feel nervous. Good luck!!
