    3 days post op

I was in the hospital for 3 days and I was on an IV until about an hour before I was released. I didn't gain any weight but I used the restroom a lot. The nurse said I was voiding everything that was going in via IV. Sent from my VS995 using BariatricPal mobile app

    3 days post op

I had nausea the first few days too. The liquid pain medicine really made me nauseous., so I started pill form. I'm lucky, I didn't get gas pain in my shoulder, it was in my chest. Moving around really helped get rid of it. Sent from my VS995 using BariatricPal mobile app

    April sleevers!?

I had surgery Monday. I had a hiatal hernia repair along with my sleeve. I was up walking the same day as surgery. I still have pain at the indented incision site, which I suppose is to be expected. I take pain pills to help with the pain. I managed to work a few hours today, I work from home. I'm struggling to get all my liquids in. Im on a full liquid diet for 2 weeks. Any suggestions getting more liquids down? I'm afraid to over fill my sleeve. 5. So, I just had my final pre-op meeting with a nurse of the bariatric team. She does a mandatory class that explains the importance of the pre and post op diets, what to expect on surgery day and the following days. She told us about a patient that ate broccoli one week post op and it got stuck in her sleeve. They had to do a midline cut on the lady and open her sleeve to get the broccoli out. We are required to have a two week liquid diet post op. And from what happened to the girl that ate broccoli, I can appreciate the importance of following the guidelines. Just because you may look healed on the outside, the inside has a long way to go. Just thought I would share, I was a bit horrified by the story.
  6. I am still pre op, but I know I have to do liquids for 2 weeks post op. I thought I read somewhere to be careful with breads bc they can get stuck or swell...it was something unpleasant. Just be careful with your new stomach.

    Pre-Op diet...how much did u

I'm on day 5 of my pre op diet and I have lost 6 pounds. This makes a 20 pound loss since I began this process back in December. I do not strictly follow the pre op diet given to me by my NUT. I cut out all the fruit and replaced it with a serving of meat a day and an egg. I figure my last 3 days I will cut out the meat and eggs and just have my shakes, cottage cheese, milk and veggies. Im allowed yogurt and SF jello and popsicles but I don't like any of those foods. I do have broth occasionally that I froze the last time I made a beef roast. I have most of that frozen in small containers for post op when I will be on liquids for 2 weeks.
  8. I asked my surgeon about the strips and he said they only help with gas in the stomach, not the gas they put inside our abdomen to puff us up....as that is outside the stomach. It makes since if you think about it. Your stomach and digestive system are closed so how will gas x get rid of gas outside the stomach and digestive system...

    Keto diet

I agree about adding fat to our diets. Healthy fats are good for you and help you feel satisfied. They also help with energy when following a low carb diet. I don't buy reduced fat products, they replace fat with sugar. With all these types of products on the market, Americans keep getting fatter. Ever wonder why? Sugar is killing us..along with the chemicals put into foods. I try to primarily eat food that either walked on the ground or grew out of the ground. I do pretty good. I'm not perfect though, once in awhile I will have something sweet... Sweets are my downfall. I've just started my pre op diet though, so no sweets at all except my protein drinks. I don't eat SF anything, it makes me crave sugar.
  11. I believe muscle milk is lactose free. I cannot drink milk products on an empty stomach or I get gas, bloating and pain. I have been drinking Premier Protein for breakfast and I'm doing good with it. Even though Muscle Milk is lactose free, it makes my stomach ache.

    2 week liquid diet

Be careful with Excedrin migraine, I believe it contains aspirin, which we shouldn't have pre-op. I believe it is a blood thinner.

    Kicking Sweets..

Thanks for the insight into all the different sugar substitutes. There aren't many sugar free products I like. I do drink one glass of crystal light energy drink then the rest of the day is Water for me. I'm not a fan of diet soda at all. I used to drink coke all the time, but I stopped buying soda. Now, I get it as a treat if I eat out, then only one glass. Sent from my VS995 using the BariatricPal App

    Kicking Sweets..

Hello everyone! I've seen the NUT and had my consultation with my surgeon. I have to lose 10 pounds in order to have surgery. Not quite sure of my surgery date yet. My psych appt isn't until mid January. After that appt my paperwork can be sent to insurance for approval, then I can have surgery. My biggest problem is my love of sweets. Does anyone has some good tips/advice to kick the sweets habit? Any input is appreciated. TIA Sent from my VS995 using the BariatricPal App

    Kicking Sweets..

I am hoping I am one of those that develop an aversion! I plan on being sweet free by surgery, so I may not be interested anyway. Sent from my VS995 using the BariatricPal App I am thinking detoxing is the way for me to go also. Sent from my VS995 using the BariatricPal App

    Kicking Sweets..

Thank you for all of the suggestions. I'm not a fan of popsicles or Jello, so I know I won't be reaching for those in place of something sweet. I have tried sugar free in the past and the artificial sweeteners don't work too well with my stomach. My guess is just giving them up will be what I need to do. I have time before I go on the pre surgery liquid diet so I will use this time to wein myself off of sweets. My first step is just not bringing them into the house. The hardest part right now is that I enjoy making Christmas candy, but I know I can't make it and then not eat it! So, better to avoid all together for me.
