Everything went well for me. I had a "pretty big" hernia they took care of, so there was some pain for a while. I did throw up about 20 yards from the hospital when leaving for home yesterday, but it didn't hurt and most of the gas came up so I've had no gas pain. I was comfortable sleeping on either side (hurt getting into position, however). Today, I'm just sore although I do have a fever. I haven't taken any pain medication since I left the hospital, just Tylenol. All in all, not bad.

I'm alive, I'm alive!!! I had intended to dash off a short note when I got home, but like you Shawna, I had a "pretty big" hernia, so I was in a little extra pain and didn't much care about anything. Everything went smoothly. I told everybody over and over as instructed, that anesthesia nauseats me, so they loaded me up and I felt fine afterwards and walked the perimeter not long after returning from recovery. The Good Nurse gave me half a shot of demerol and phenergan before her shift change. The Evil Nurse wouldn't give me the rest, said it hadn't been long enough. I kept telling her I'd only had half, she wouldn't listen. At that point I told DH, let's get the rest of this liquid down and take me to pee, we're going home. Evil Nurse came back and gave me some liquid Loritab. We headed for home and made it about 20 yards and I said "stop the car", I threw up, all that gas came out and I felt great. And it doesn't hurt at all to throw up, no more than usual anyway. I was worried. The girl who had surgery after me came back from recovery puking like crazy. I felt so bad for her. Anyway, was sort of dizzy all night from the anesthesia, but haven't touched any more Loritab in case that's what made me sick. Feel really good today, didn't sleep much last night though, getting up a 100 times to pee. What little gas I did have was in my back, not in my shoulder. Gas-X strip and DH rubbing my back for 30 minutes got rid of that. All in all I think I have really had an easy time of it. I do have a fever that we are watching rather closely. I'm thinking since they say to call if it reaches 101 it must not be uncommon. Anybody else have a fever? I thank you all so much for thinking of me. It's very comforting to know I'm not in this alone.

Hey Marine, way to go! Sounds like you're a real trooper and going to do great. I'm not banded yet (tomorrow), but my doctor says NO STRAWS. Evidently you swallow a lot of air with straws, which leads to gas, and can stretch your pouch. You might want to check with your doctor for his opinion. Best of luck to you :biggrin2:

Thanks so much, Wendy. I'm not really anxious at all, just ready to get the show on the road. On some of the other forums, so many people are so scared and I guess at my age, I can really see the risks of obesity just around the corner. And I'm really beginning to realize how blessed we are to have the doctors we do. Some people are so unprepared and don't really know how to manage after surgery. It blows my mind!! Anyway, I will check in as soon as I can focus!

Wendy and Shawna, glad to hear you are both doing so well. Had my pre-op testing and visit yesterday, so it seems I'm on for Thursday! I can't wait to join you on the "other side". Keep up the good work!!

Well, I went for my pre-op testing yesterday, and since I haven't received any phone calls from the doctor's office, I assume we are a go! My sweetheart of a husband went with me yesterday (it was our anniversary) and we made a day of it. He is so supportive and I swear last night he was "nesting" making sure everything was ready for my recovery! I'm really excited! Having a hard time concentrating on work, which I have tons to do today. Taking off tomorrow around noon to do my bowel prep!

Are you getting your Protein? Taking your Vitamins?

One week from today, gang! And I know I'm ready, because this morning while getting ready for work I had a million things cross my mind and not a single one of them was band related. That's the first time in nine months when all this began for me. Let the countdown begin!

I knew you could do it!! Congrats! And just think what those 9495448 situps are going to do for you. LOL! I think Phillip is a perfect name.:biggrin2:

Hi Carrie, I'm in Alabama. Sylacauga to be exact, which is halfway between Birmingham and Montgomery. One week from tomorrow!!!!!
-
I know I've said I only have to do liquids 24 hours prior to surgery, but I'll be on liquids for two weeks after and then mushies for two more weeks.
-
I only have to do a clear diet the day before surgery. They "suggested" a low carb/low fat diet two weeks prior. We keep hearing these diets are for shrinking of the liver, which makes surgery easier. My doctor's office indicated this is an issue for people who carry a majority of their weight around the middle. I assume "apple types".

Yes, you do have to buy the system and the Wii Fit is an add on. I've preordered mine, too, but won't be able to use if for a while. I won't be banded for a couple of weeks and it should arrive soon after! My husband and I are totally adicted to Tiger Woods Golf. Getting as much in as possbile before surgery!

How many fingers am I holding up ??? Glad you're on the road to recovery!!!

Judy, I have thought the same thing a time or two myself. But, I've lost the weight so many times, too. That's the easy part. I just want to do it one more time and keep it off for good. I really feel at our age this is the most important thing we can do for our health. Our chance for success is so much greater with the band than without. And our risk for so many life threatening issues increase tremendously with every pound we gain. I have no doubts, but if you're having serious doubts, perhaps you should postpone your surgery until you feel more comfortable about your decision.

Congrats Nicole! Sounds like you're doing great. You also sound like someone who is going to be very successful and I am very excited for you! Keep up the good work. -
Pre-op diet and weight loss prior to surgery
Di4AU replied to Sarah8714's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Is your doctor requiring you to lose weight? Unless he specifically instructed you to lose weight, that's really not what the pre-op diet is for. -
Veronica said something about CPAP yesterday that made sense to me. Your body needs oxygen to heal. Even though I'm still not going to attempt to sleep with the thing, I might use it while I'm drug induced on the couch the day I come home from surgery. Evidently, when I'm on my back I don't do a whole lot of breathing. Couldn't hurt. Glad you're feeling a little better today. Sounds like you're on the road to recovery.

:frown::hurray::tt2::hurray:THAT IS FABULOUS!!!! Congrats!!! GOOD JOB!! :Banane44::hurray::Banane44::hurray: -
I'm glad I'm not the only one losing my mind!:confused2::confused2: I keep thinking about surgery and what I'm supposed to be doing to get ready and everything else seems to have just left the building!

I would go directly to my PCP to make sure it's only a cold. I am recovering from the cold/throat infection thing myself and had to do a round of antibiotics (5 day). My date is not until the 22nd, but I was still pretty nervous about it this time last week. I felt really bad.

Went to my nutritional class today and I am so pumped. I only have to do clear liquids the day before surgery, but they ask, not require that you control carbs/fat a couple weeks before. The only thing that upset me was no swimming for 4-6 wks. I thought they meant, actually swimming, no they mean no pool for 4-6 wks! Just when it's almost warm enough:cursing:
-
Great to hear from you Shawna. Glad everything went well. Heck, I'm glad everything went at all!! You are so right about Veronica. Just returned from my Nutrition class and she is just so inspirational. I'm all pumped up again. Karen (surgery last Friday), just stopped by and she is doing well, although weak. She showed me all her incisions! :biggrin2: And Shawna, I'm sure I speak for everyone here, did they use your CPAP?????

Thank you so much. I am getting very, very excited! -
Shawna, from what I understand, you won't be waiting long :biggrin2:. I keep forgetting to ask Karen if they even put the *&^#$! CPAP on her in recovery. I'm going to have to dust mine off. It went from under the bed to the bag a long time ago.......... Sweet dreams tonight and happy banding tomorrow!!
