1 month post-op & I had alcohol. I want experienced feedback please!
changesin2017 replied to Sleeved_G's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I did and I was fine. My doctor said as long as eating food I could drink and he allowed food at 3 weeks. I have had wine and some rum and all has been fine. -
FYI.....Save some money!!!! Anyone starting this journey or even smack dab in the middle of it knows how expensive the required Vitamins and supplements are each month. I found a wonderful solution. Website is www.nascobal.com. It is a prescription medication for nasal B12 with a special program for a monthly $25 copay that includes your B12 and ALL OTHER SUPPLEMENTS! I thought it was too good to be true; but I discussed with my doctor and they submitted paperwork and I got my first shipment today. Everything is formulated strictly for bariatric patients and it ships automatically to me monthly. You can get chewable or capsule formulas. I got my B12, multi-Vitamin, calcium and Iron. If you are like me, this is an expensive journey, and every little bit of saving helps!

My doctor was 10 days liquid, 7 to 10 days soft then start introducing "real" food as I felt like my tummy could handle.

Every Journey so Unique
changesin2017 replied to Dennis Robins's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I so agree with you...I even have differences with my surgeon and the staff at the bariatric center. I had surgery January 19th. Center gave out a book outlining diet plans and restrictions for about 6 weeks out, 2 weeks liquid, 2 weeks puree, 2 weeks soft, etc. On my 1 week check up with the surgeon he said, liquids 10 days, soft foods for a week then start gradually adding in other food as you feel comfortable. I spent one night in hospital and did come home with a drain for a week. I am also a researcher and read up on everything I could find before surgery and my journey so far has been completely different. I have had no nausea, no problems getting in Fluid, energy level has been great, weight loss a little slower than I hoped but I've been told not to worry. I am going to keep following the guidelines set by my doctor and keep fingers crossed the weight starts and keeps falling off! -

2 Days Out - feeling pretty awful
changesin2017 replied to Holly McQuillan's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My sleeve was Thursday. I was totally unprepared for the pain and discomfort after. Fortunately I have not been nauseous much since the day of surgery. The pain in shoulder area and chest has been bad and is just getting better today. Prayers coming your way for a smooth recovery! -
I had outrageous hunger for at least two weeks post-op. Very frustrating. Whether it was head hunger or actual hunger didn't really matter; they felt identical. My fear of hurting myself by "giving in" to the hunger is what got me through it. I spent too much money on my pouch to mess it up! I am now allowed to eat solid/regular foods. The most surprising thing is that I don't crave a single thing. All the stuff I loved 6 weeks ago doesn't seem appealing at all.[/quote I guess I am just surprised that it's so easy to drink the fluids with no problems. I was expecting to struggle.to get in the liquid and instead I feel like I can do all the liquid and eat as well. I am glad I'm getting fluids and can get the Protein shakes in, just wish I wasn't hungry! I am so looking forward to cottage cheese and yogurts!

[quote name="changesin2017" post="4384216" surgery was Thursday and it had been a rough couple of days. Finally feeling better today. Luckily have.had no problem with fluid intake. It's has been a breeze. Only problem I have now is still some gas and soreness in chest area and I am hungry! Didn't expect hunger!

I cheated for 1 meal during my pre-opt
changesin2017 replied to jovanmurphysr's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had scrambled eggs Tuesday night before surgery on Thursday. I guess it depends on what you did and when you did it! Every doctor seems to be different in pre-op diet requirements. -
Excuse the Grammer and spelling....in bed on pain med so I'm not at my best! Anybody else have hunger so soon and if so how did you handle it?

Surgery in 2 days - nervous
changesin2017 replied to Holly McQuillan's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm scheduled for Thursday. Started liquid diet on the 9th. I am actually sipping on my morning shake and relishing the thought that I only have 5 more shakes to go until surgery! My surgeon requiered only Bariatric Advantage shakes prior to surgery but allows any type after......so.......I can assure you I don't ever want this kind ever, ever again! My liquid phase has been ok....first 2 days I was hungry....but the next two were awful....not so much hunger, just really bad days then that Friday it was like a switch flipped and I started feeling better. I, too, am nervous about surgery. I've been trying to read the negative as well as the positive to better prepare myself. I have had to self-pay so that in itself is plenty of motivation to follow the plan but I'm still nervous. We have a lifetime of habits and relationships with food to rewire! I am so looking forward to a new life though. I feel like I will appreciate health and the ability to do things, and shopping in normal stores and not sitting on the sidelines of life because of being selfconciouse. I feel like I am about to be paroled from a prison of sorts and I intend to live and enjoy my upcoming freedom to the fullest. Bless all of you on the journey.....no one understands the issues unless they've been there. I pray that each of you sail through surgery and recovery and enjoy the life you have on the other side! -
Day 3 of preop liquid diet.....this is hard! My doctor allows no food.....3 shakes a day and I can have broth, sugar free Jello and popsicles, oand other no calorie sugar free noncarbonated drinks. Any pointers or helpful suggestions.....'cause right about now I would kill for wine and cheeseburgers! Sent from my SM-N920V using the BariatricPal App

Bariatric advantage shakes, no juice allowed. I can have broth, sugar free jello and popsicles, and sugar free drinks but nothing carbonated. My date is the 19th. I'm not gonna lie....this is rough....really hard. I'm struggling but determined to make it! Just keeping my eye on the prize and doing a lot of praying![emoji120]

Three days of liquids
changesin2017 replied to Sunshine4247's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I can relate! We have had doughnuts at the office the past 3 days....torture! I rode to the grocery store tonight with a friend but wouldn't go inside. I told her if I did they would call in for a psych transport for the crazy lady sitting on the floor on aisle 6 with her hand scooping out Peanut Butter...chicken leg in the other....crackers and cookies spread all around! -
Here's a link for some ideas I found on pinterest https://www.pinterest.com/eggface/protein-shakes-and-smoothies/ Try the banana Foster shake. Made it last night and kids were in love with it also Sent from my SM-N920V using the BariatricPal App Those look delicious but most won't work for me preop but I'm sure saving them for post-op!!!

Three days of liquids
changesin2017 replied to Sunshine4247's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm on day 3 as well. Today has been the worst! I just had my 3rd shake of the day and had to make myself drink it. I just keep thinking of how different my life will be a year from now. I also did my "before" pics today and let.me tell you thats.big motivation! I'm scheduled for the 19th...what's your date? -
yippee....hoooray.....good to know....I am going to try it in the morning! BTW you look amazing! I checked out your profile, wanting to see someone that was way past surgery day. Looks like you are doing great with long-term goals. That is so encouraging!!!!

It's funny that it seems we are all on the same wavelength. I've been going to bed early just so I won't think about food and even staying late at the office to avoid going home and thinking about dinner! My doctor did say it's fine to use maybe a teaspoon of sugar-free pudding mix to flavor my shakes so I have been doing that. He requires the Bariatric Advantage shakes and I got the vanilla, figuring that would be easier to flavor. I am just sick of sweet.....wish there was a way to flavor more savory. He does allow coffee and I am thinking about maybe trying the shake mix blended with a cup of strong, dark coffee in the morning. Has anyone done this? Hoping it will be like a frothy, iced coffee drink.
