October Sleevers, how are you doing?
MowryRocks replied to The New Kel's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Way to go! You're really doing well. Isn't the increased energy wonderful? Good luck on your 5k. I am in awe of you for doing that. At this point I only run when chased, but I aspire to get into running shape! Totally walking it... -
You look like you feel awesome!

Sadly went back after 2 weeks. It was fine, I just really wanted more time to NOT be at work, but I was physically and mentally ok to be there.

October Sleevers, how are you doing?
MowryRocks replied to The New Kel's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sleeved 10/26. I'm down 50lbs total and generally loving life. Steak? Jealous. My surgery group won't allow it for 6 months post. I can't even have ground meat until next week, but I promise you that will be the most highly anticipated ground meat I have EVER eaten. LOL. I have gone from a 26/28 to a 18/20 top and a 24 bottom. Everyone notices. My energy level is WAAAY up. I'm doing my first post surgery 5k on 12/11/2016, hoping to run some. (Hoping). Thanksgiving was a breeze compared to how I built it up in my head. My requirements will lax a bit more before Christmas, so I know it will be fine as well. I had to get anal about my fluids after a surgery buddy was hospitalized with dehydration. I now try to have 32oz before lunch. Good Luck! -
Juice Plus post surgery
MowryRocks replied to MowryRocks's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Nut just cleared me for JP!!! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
I have a call in to my Nut, but I was just wondering if there is anyone who took juice Plus supplements pre surgery that continues to take them post surgery. I have taken them for years, but I am concerned about taking them now because my team had cautioned me against taking anything that wouldn't go through a straw.

Protein shakes... yuck.
MowryRocks replied to wren3273's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I quit drinking Protein shakes at soft foods. I just limited my food intake to 1/2c, 4 times a day and ate lots of fish and cottage cheese. While I have always really enjoyed the Premier Protein pre surgery. I can no longer stomach them for a second. -
Starting Over Again
MowryRocks replied to Krystyneh's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yeah mine requires 6 consecutive months with a nutritionist with the last 2 years which I have a year straight so that's no biggy. I am worried my insurance will deny it and how much I'll need to pay out of pocket. I know some of what they want. Will the Bariatric program tell me? I know they usually check with insurances about that stuff. Yes, they will verify what is needed and let you know and my 10/26/2016. -

I lost 19 pre surgery, 11 more in the liquid phase, and 20 since surgery. -
My visit to the scale this morning revealed that I am at 50lbs down since I started this journey in April of this year. 31lbs lost since liquid pre-op and 20lbs since surgery on 10/26/2016. This feels so major to me that I just had to share it!

I added you to my friends list. I was sleeved 10/26. Not long enough to be a mentor, but happy to be an open ear! -
2 Week Post Op Appt Today- Pain with hematoma
MowryRocks replied to mylighthouse's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had an almost burning sensation away from the incisions, like my skin was literally on fire. My doc just looked at me and said "huh?" It went away the next day. Hopefully, it's just as quick for you. -
Starting Over Again

My insurance required 6 months of medically supervised weight loss, but they would count any medically documented attempts within two years prior. I, unfortunately, didn't have any. It took me 6 months, but I was finally sleeved 11/26/2016. Good Luck! -
My 3 week stall lasted 9 excruciating days and when it was over, 5lbs.the next week. As long as you are doing what you should be doing, the weight loss will come. We just have to be patient.

Reached my first 50lbs down today!!!

For years I had been anti WLS. Once, I found out about the sleeve, I opened my mind a bit more. Especially because I have always been vocal about my opinion, I felt it was necessary to be open and honest with everyone. I figured if I was open and honest about it, I controlled the dialog. It was the best decision I have ever made. It opened up a whole world of support that I would've never known existed. I have been a weight loss blogger since 2009, so my prior stance alienated a lot of my readership, but since then, I have really become a safe place to people with all kinds of struggles (not just weight). I feel like my relationships with people are stronger and closer because I have let them into my world and they have invited me into theirs. I know that not every situation is the same, but the people who will talk about you after WLS are talking about you prior to WLS. They don't matter, the only thing that matters is being true to yourself.

How do you break the habit?
MowryRocks replied to JaneDarcy's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I started out with a specific plan. I decided to do a 1200 calorie diet. I did a 1200 calorie modified ketogenic diet Monday through Friday and on the weekends I still did 1200 calories, but if I wanted something specific on the weekend, I had it and kept within my calories. I did this for the first three months of my 6 month medically supervised diet before going full keto for the last three months. I ate the same thing everyday for Breakfast and lunch. Breakfast: 2 eggs, any style and a Oikos Triple Zero yogurt (any flavor) For lunch I had a Premier Protein shake and a Sargento Balanced Break. For dinner, I had 2-4oz of meat, with a steamed vegetable. Since the diet was high in protein, it made it easier because I wasn't hungry as often. It really kept me satisfied. If I felt like I needed a snack, I had one. Typically sugar free Jell-O or Sugar free pudding. I also stopped caffeine right away. I figured why prolong the inevitable. Good Luck finding the right thing for you! -
What are you most excited for after WLS?
MowryRocks replied to Kestrael's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I'm also looking forward to horseback riding. I purposely skip the Girl Scout trip every year because I knew they wouldn't let me on and more than being embarrassed myself, I didn't want to embarrass my daughters. I'm looking forward to no seatbelt extenders on my flight to Hawaii in February and the possibility of parasailing when I get there. I want to do all the things I have always been terrified to do. I want to buy clothes that I like and not settle for the ones that are ok, but at least they fit. -
HELP weight gain in 6 month program!
MowryRocks replied to hopesndreams86's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgeon said that a lot of people never lose. My feeling is that the insurance company should look at the overall picture. It's not like you gained the weight in month 6. You've been at a loss for 5 months out of 6. In my experience, the nutritionists with my program seem to be very high strung and overly reactionary to every question or concern. Prayers and positive thoughts to you. -

MowryRocks replied to Inner Surfer Girl's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
From the articles I've read, there really doesn't seem to be a firm indication either way for whether or not she is going to have WLS. Either way, they need to do this story line proud. -

Interesting to hear about her contract because I was wondering where this was all going to go. I've documented weight loss struggles for the last 7 years through blogging and the brutality of the up and down is why I chose WLS. I don't know of any WLS story lines on any other series before. -
All of my incisional pain was tolerable. Only took pain meds once at home.

today marks 4 week post op - already feel the difference
MowryRocks replied to simpsongrad's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
SO excited for you! I am also 4 weeks post op today and feel that I have an amazing new lease on life. 2 dress sizes down and loving it. -
Interesting topic...lol. I would say poo still smells like poo. Although at 4 weeks in ( soft food stage) It does smell more like baby poo at this point.
