Nearly 2 years post lapband; semi failure
TooFat4Ever posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi All, Well, I was banded in September of 2009. Have lost about 45-50 lbs, but have not lost an ounce in well over a year. The good news is that I haven't regained anything to speak of (maybe a pound or 2, but not more). My band is totally full and when I called OSU it seemed to me they were not interested in helping at all. The nutritionist there suggested I either needed to adjust my diet (eat less when I'm already hungry most of the time) or "step up" my exercise. When I heard those two options, I just gave up and have not tried to talk to them since nor have I been back for any further followup. At this point, I feel like I've partially failed, but then, I AM down 45-50 lbs and that's not nothing; just less than expected. I still need to lose at least another 35-40 lbs and have absolutely no hope. I do think OSU failed me in a BIG way. They are so oriented to GB that even the initial diets were not appropriate for bandsters. I think that has improved since. Has anyone else out there had similar experiences??? -
My husband and I attended the Fresh Start seminar last Fall. At that time I felt they were really pushing GB because of statements like "you can never eat steak or bread again with the lap band...". That made both of us stop and consider GB. We still have not moved forward with the process (partly due to trying to choose and insurance carrier that would cover it-that's a story in itself), but now that I pve started reading this forum, I'm starting to lean back to the lapband. Guess that means I was never too keen on GB to begin with. Not sure what my husband wil do... he's a pretty conservative guy and usually does whatever is recommended. Do you really feel like Dr. Myers has no preference now as to which procedure should be done? We're also going to attend the seminar at OSU in a couple of weeks. The info on the website looks sort of outdated. Will they do lapband or do they strongly prefer to do GB? Do they make a big effort to ensure you have insurance coverage when applicable? Website sort of sounds as it that will be our headache whereas Fresh Start works hard to get ins to cover. I just have sooooo many questions.... Thanks in advance.

Even though none of you know who the heck I am, I'm gonna try to make it tomorrow. Have not yet had any surgery, but have TONS of questions. Hope to meet some of you tomorrow! -

do you think tomorrow will still be a go in view of the blizzard? I live just around the corner from Polaris. -

Hi, I too was certain I did not have sleep apnea. I knew that I snored "lightly", but would wake up numerous times during the night to pee; sometimes 3-5x/night. Well, surprisingly I was diagnosed with "significant" sleep apnea and fitted with a cpap. Now I don't wake up during the night for any reason. I was totally shocked that the nighttime peeing stopped. So, don't just automatically dismiss apnea like I did. Besides it gives you a co-morbidity, which you might need! -
Hi, I am new and have not yet had surgery. I have also experienced what seems to be resistance to Lap Band here in Columbus. Riverside/Myers wants to do bypass as does Mt. Carmel group. Does anyone know if some of these "revised" lap bands have made a difference in the physician attitude toward lap band? Do you kow why they prefer bypass?
