In my case it was worth it to jump through the hoops. Those hoops were there to make sure things were as they should be before surgery. Beware of any clinic that doesn't make you jump through any hoops. Ask about leak rates (leaks can kill) for the clinic or surgical group (if over 2 or 3% I'd bounce). If your insurance requires 5 years of bmi over 40 like Jamie's (that's insane) then maybe opt for purchasing a policy on the healthcare exchange that doesn't suck in such a way. Good luck! I got caught in pouring rain yesterday and had to run to the car. It felt amazing! I was able to do it. It was the first kind of vigorous activity I've done since surgery (RNY 12/8/2016, I think I've been taking it too easy). Now I feel like I can take on the world and can't wait to get on a treadmill. Gonna wait until I've lost more weight to jog because my knees would hate me if not, but what a motivator it was to get caught in the rain. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

The sauce that it is baked with is kind of salty, and I'm salt- sensitive but it is a nice treat. I cooked it up and had it with some sauteed kale with shallots. Update: surgeon ordered labs and and ultrasound as I mentioned earlier. All labs were perfectly normal and the ultrasound didn't reveal anything to be concerned with (no gallbladder issue, no stone, no sludge). I took the carafate the surgeon gave me a few times and scaled back my diet to liquids for a few days, ate a boatload of popsicles (I love popsicles more than anything), and I'm feeling much better. I'm very familiar with dumping syndrome as a potential after surgery (as any RNY patient should be), and I've been expecting that and looking out for it since the surgery. I think I expected dumping to feel different, kind of like pre-diarrhea feeling. This feeling wasn't like that and there was never a loose stool. The cramping had no release -- it was like a vice just gripping my stomach and not letting go and slowly squeezing harder. So looking back I do think that the episode was indeed dumping syndrome. Alexis99 I'm too familiar with the feeling like you've eaten a bucket of cement! I saw my surgeon and even had labs and an abdominal ultrasound and everything looks great. Right now I'm scaled back to stage 1 soft diet and eating tons of sugar free popsicles. I literally eat refried Beans for every meal. I'm also taking carafate which is like liquid chalk. Apparently we think something irritated my stomach and it's recovering? I did try a piece of Trader Joe's turkey bacon and tolerated that. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

You're lucky if you can eat chicken. Chicken makes me nauseous. I can't eat it. I bought a bunch of turkey thighs after xmas and froze them. I cook them in my slow cooker and make delicious pulled turkey. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Calories, calories, calories. Aside from the obvious need for hydration my nutritionist encouraged us to get enough calories in every day so we don't feel so fatigued. Of course Protein is important, but even with 3 Premier Protein shakes per day you're not reaching the 500-600 calories per day that are typically what they go for during the first few weeks postop. Eas Myoplex double chocolate has the most calories per shake that I've seen out there. They have them at Walmart. Then there are these little 2oz jars at Dollar Tree -- they come in a pack of 2. Fill up 4 of them ready to go every hour, then set a timer for yourself every 15 minutes or find a Westminster Chimes app on your phone and use that to remind you to drink every 15 minutes. Sorry to hear this. I'm 6 weeks postop and had the cramping too but I had a really bad episode last week after eating that had my head spinning. I'm a nurse and also noticed my stool is very light colored which I know could be a sign of gallbladder issues. Waiting for results now to see if I need my gallbladder removed. Good luck! I am so sick of the taste of these shakes now (Premier Protein and Myoplex -- anything whey but specifically the bottled ones). To me they smell like rotten milk. Trying to figure out a way to get my protein in without these shakes. Going to try my 'unflavored' protein mixed with various Soups. I miss using soy protein in fruit shakes (banana and berries) and although Whey protein isolate is what is recommended I may need to modify things to meet my daily needs. I've gone too many days being grossed out by shakes and not meeting protein goals. Does anyone have any other creative ideas on how to get that protein goal met daily? I still haven't tried oatmeal with protein. It sounds gross because I've never liked oatmeal to begin with unless it had lots of brown sugar and cranberries in it (and I can't stand the flavor of artificial flavors). I am calling the dr tomorrow. Ever since that happened I haven't felt right. My friend thinks it may have been a gallbladder attack. I've also had light colored stools which could also be indicative of gallbladder issue ... which they say can happen from losing weight very fast. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Hi. If they tried a laparoscopic approach first, then they probably did fill the abdomen with air. Usually when they do open it is because they tried lap first and it wasn't cutting it so they went for the open after trying that. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

12/8 surgery date here. I ate too much tofu pudding at one time yesterday and the discomfort I experienced had my head spinning. Has anyone else had a bad post meal experience like this? The pain/nausea lasted about 30 minutes and I fell asleep afterward because of the exhaustion. Today I feel like I'm recovering from it. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Hey Tia. I haven't needed the Miralax or colace for a while. You could try just the colace but more hydration could help too. Also benefiber. You could try more hydration and benefiber alone if you're worried about taking the colace every day. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Thanks. I've been using GENEPRO since the day I got home but I can taste the whey Protein and really don't like it even though it blends well (after mixing and letting it sit for 5 min). I have yet to try the Isopure. The Atkins Lift drinks gross me out so I have been apprehensive about Isopure. Thanks. I will try the egg white Protein. I think I have a sample of some somewhere. I found one way that I can bearably use my unflavored protein (Genepro). I mix it with Koolaid (sweetened artificially). I wouldn't have that every day, but it is bearable when I need the protein. Since chicken makes me nauseous I grabbed up as many Shady Brook Farms turkey thighs as I could and froze them. I cook 2 large thighs at a time in the slow cooker overnight and the meat is like pulled pork. Then I make turkey salad and eat it alone or with half a piece of whole wheat toast or with whole wheat saltines. Fat free refried Beans with a little bit of lowfat cheese is delicious. I just picked up these items which each have at least 10g protein (the sausage, egg white, and cheddar one has 16g) Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I agree though that bypass being reversible is not a reason to choose it. We must be honest with ourselves. I'd think that reversal of a RNY gastric bypass is extremely rare and would require extenuating circumstances. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

danithomas, that's when you let them just be wrong and know you're right. RNY is reversible and sleeve is not -- it's actually called a sleeve gastrectomy -- the unused part of the stomach is taken out of the body and gone forever. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
