Thank you for this!! I am not vegetarian but am trying to slowly get there. However the nutritionist who works with my surgeon is totally against so I'm basically left with just the internet as a resource...which is probably better anyways. resources like this are great to see!! I have also had some friends incredulous that I won't ever be able to eat "normal" amounts again. They haven't said they pity me, through. What I find interesting about it is that all my friends that focus on the loss of ability to stuff in food have never been fat...they just don't get the price some of us have to pay for that and how just uncomfortable life can truly be as an overweight person. Surgery is NEXT MONDAY! What should I expect?!
jwinters19 replied to TheRevisionedVagabond's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Take chapstick! Even though I had iv my mouth and lips were dry and that was a life saver! And warm liquids go down way better. If they offer you decaf coffee or hot broth, take advantage of it! HW 285.8 SW 272.8 CW 264.6 GW 140 Sleeved 11/23 -
4 days post op and I've advanced my diet

I know how you feel. I was so bored of the shakes!! But one thing that really helped me was planning for the next stage. I found that if I had recipes or things I wanted to try, it was easier to use them as a goal, and it felt so rewarding when I finally got to eat them!! 5 oz of protein OR 10 cookies
jwinters19 replied to jellybean12's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am about a month out, and in Christmas Eve and Christmas, allowed myself some Cookies. I had the exact same experience, except I could only do one at a time. But over the course of the day, it added up. I love sweets too and noticed that I when I cut them out completely on my month of liquids, my cravings went away. Sugar can be very physically addicting in my experience. So jump on that motivation to cut it out and get back to the plan! I need to do that too! HW 285.8 SW 272.8 CW 264.6 GW 140 Sleeved 11/23 -

My biggest goal is to apply for Survivor (and get on!!). Or is that cheating since I won't be as hungry as everyone else? HW 285.8 SW 272.8 CW 266 GW 140 Sleeved 11/23

4 days post op and confused
jwinters19 replied to jackieemac's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm in week 3 and just now going through this. Not so much about what I can and can't eat, but I'm mourning the amounts. But trust me, if you mess up once and feel that pain, it does a lot to curb those mental cravings because you know the pain! I'm not suggesting to cheat as a way to learn, but want to encourage that it does get better and we can learn! HW 285.8 SW 272.8 CW 266 GW 140 Sleeved 11/23 -
3 weeks post-operative, solid food hurts!
jwinters19 replied to Marc A. Fellman's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm also three weeks and my plan does not allow for bread. Maybe that's the issue, since the cheese has been ok. The easiest thing for me to eat so far has been refried beans--with some cheese on top, it's so good after a month of liquids!! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
This is also happening to me. I live in Louisiana so it's really difficult to get dry skin! I figured it might because I'm taking in less Water? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Alcohol first time post-op

Omg secret sangria is now my new favorite term!! Also great idea! Not that I need to trick others into thinking I'm drinking but I need to trick myself! Nothing worse than going to a party and having Water. This will at least feel like a little treat. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
THREE THINGS / Just Sleeved
jwinters19 replied to sweetchef76's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
1. I was actually heavier following surgery. Apparently this is normal with all the gas etc 2. I was still physically hunger for the first week. But I read that it is just stomach acid mimicking hunger. That made it much easier to ignore. 3. Have sugar free cough drops by your bed. I needed one in the middle of the night every night for the first week. Bonus: take the darn sleeping pills if they give you any! I didn't take them every night and I regretted it (and yet still would tell myself the next night would be different! Ugh!) Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

Swimming post surgery
jwinters19 replied to Journey4myhealth's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I have a six week restriction on any exercise but walking. Swimming may put you at risk for over exerting yourself and hurting your new stomach. I think it takes around six weeks for the staples and such to fully heal. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
I don't have bcbs but I do have a federal plan. I suggest going to the website and reading your plans booklet. Mine gave bariatric surgery its own section. I also had to use it several times to correct the hospital insurance specialists, as they were given wrong information by my insurance several times. I would assume, if it's covered, you might pay the 15%. My plan is 5/95 once I meet my deductible and so I paid 5% of hospital and surgeons fees. Biggest take away: research on your own instead of relying on info from reps! Doing that saved me the hassle of paying (and presumably getting a refund of) 3,000 extra! Malabsorbtion with sleeve?
jwinters19 replied to Ashley Menhennett's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I also take anti-depressants for anxiety and my surgeon did not mention any absorption problems (he's been doing the sleeve for forever). The only meds he mentioned for adjustment is my depo shot as I lose weight. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
I would love to see a picture of my stomach out (why didn't I think of asking??!!) but I would never watch my surgery. I think it makes recovery easier being able to tell myself it wasn't that big of deal...seeing it might make me hurt all over again!! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Over emotional and regretting surgery?
jwinters19 replied to AimeeAnd's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I have been easy to cry too! I can barely look at facebook without seeing some cute story and just sobbing. But, after two years without a period (due to birth control), I started bleeding the day after surgery. So I assume my moodiness is related to some kind of PMS hormone thing that will balance out. I cried a lot easier before birth control, and this feels like a return to that. I think it's pretty normal! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Having doubts before I'm even started
jwinters19 replied to julie74601's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Ditto to all of this. I threw tantrums the two weeks pre op whenever my boyfriend would keep me from cheating but it's been so much easier post surgery. The only thing that still sucks is lack of options and being bored, but that's only during Clear Liquids and that first week breezes by as you focus on walking, napping, breathing exercises, and figuring out your tummy signals (when to drink, how much can you swallow at once, when to take a break from drinking, etc.). I had two painful crampy bouts, then all normal liquidy. I was sleeved on 11/23 and everything is still pretty liquid. But I'll take that over constipation any day! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Husband says he doesn't like skinny women...WTH!
jwinters19 replied to Dknal2's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My dad was not supportive of my moms surgery. He dropped her off at the hospital and that was the extent of his involvement (and that's only a mile drive). But two and a half years later, he loves their new lifestyle, he's lost weight too, and was fully supportive of my decision to get sleeved on 11/23. Just wanted to say there is hope. and that is great that you will have your son with you and not be alone. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Yes to food addiction being replaced by drinking !! I've seen it first hand in my family. 25+ years of sobriety down the drain. It's definitely put some strain on relationships. Thank you for bringing this up. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
