  1. Mine told me at the end of my appointment that she would sign off on my surgery and would send her report to my surgeon's office that same day.

Congrats! I have my fingers crossed for a late May date. Hoping to know something by the end of next week!

    Gastric sleeve as outpatient?

One of the "big names" in the Dallas area does outpatient procedures and only keeps overnight if fluids are not tolerated. My surgeon, though, keeps everyone at least one night, sometimes two.

    Diet After Surgery

These are misconceptions based off of outdated information. https://nutritionfacts.org/video/the-protein-combining-myth/ http://www.pcrm.org/health/reports/five-protein-myths https://www.forksoverknives.com/the-myth-of-complementary-protein/ For further reading on the subject: Proteinaholic by Dr. Garth Davis (a bariatric surgeon based in Houston, TX) A Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner (a bariatric surgeon based in Michigan) The China Study by Dr. T. Colin Campbell Super Immunity by Dr. Joel Fuhrman Prevent & Reverse Heart Disease by Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn The McDougall Program by Dr. John McDougall These physicians/surgeons have conducted decades of research on the effects of a plant-based diet, backed up by real world results. If you have an open mind and are curious about how nutrition plays a role in your overall health (not just your weight or waistline), I would highly recommend any of the books listed above.
  6. Not yet. My surgeon's office should be submitting for insurance authorization this week. Really hoping for a late May date. Fingers crossed that I have no issues with my insurance company!

    Diet After Surgery

As a long-time vegan myself, I was wondering if you would mind sharing how you are doing now? I'm pre-op and just trying to get as much figured out about post-op nutrition headed into my surgery, so I can be prepared.
  8. My sister was sleeved at the end of last June. She has lost 100 pounds and is almost to her goal weight. We have a history of PCOS in our family and we both have been diagnosed with it. I am going with the sleeve, based off of both her results and my surgeon's recommendation.

    Vegan & WLS

I love Chia seeds. Was told by my nutritionist that I'd have to lay off of them for a while after surgery. I haven't even had surgery, yet, but am already looking forward to being able to add them back into my diet post-op!
  10. I keep reading that you are to walk often after you return home from surgery. Just wondering how much/long and how often you walked after you returned home? Did you walk around your block? Inside your home? On a treadmill? I can't imagine I will even want to get dressed and go outside the first few days, lol!

    Post-Op Walking???

Thank you for your input! Looks like I'll be dusting off my Walk Away The Pounds DVDs to use for the first few days, until I feel comfortable enough to get outside.
  12. Per my surgeon, leaks after 4-6 weeks are extremely rare, as that is when the incision line should be fully healed.
  13. Getting it over with and passing the 4-6 week mark with no leaks. Honestly, that is the #1 thing I am looking forward to. Outside of that, I am most excited about the idea of aches and pains subsiding, improving the overall quality of my life (and lifespan, as obesity-related diseases run on both sides of my family) and a distant 3rd is clothes. I will definitely have fun shopping again!

OK Ladies, kinda embarrasing question for you all

You are braver than I. I really don't want to know how I'm going to be all splayed out in front of everyone, lol! However, I figure most surgeons have seen it all, so I'm really not going to stress over it.

OK Ladies, kinda embarrasing question for you all

I'm waiting for insurance authorization for a VSG now, but I've had 2 other surgeries on my abdominal area that required catheterization and neither time was I required to shave beforehand, nor did I wake up shaved. One of those surgeries included a "bikini line" incision, even. Having said that, I recognize that we are all different and (TMI), I just don't have a ton of hair in that area. I'm especially interested in receiving my pre-op paperwork after reading this. I've only shaved once and regretted it immensely, lol!
  16. I'm trying to envision what the average diet for a post-op sleever is after 1. their pouch has fully healed and they are on full solid foods, but they are still in the weight loss phase (2 months post-op?). 2. they have met their weight loss goal and are in maintenance. If anyone would care to share average # of calories, a daily menu, etc., it sure would be appreciated!

Dr. Julie Kilgore - Nicholson Clinic - Plano, TX

Thank you so much for your review! I had a bad experience with Baylor Plano when I had my gallbladder removed a few years ago, so I will likely go with one of the other facilities use (hoping for Medical Center of Frisco, but I suppose it will depend on my insurance). That's cool, the other nice thing is that they offer a lot of choices as to which hospital to use! Sent from my SM-N910T using the BariatricPal App Thanks again! Thank you so much for your insight! I had looked into Drs. Hamn & Cribbins, as well. We're lucky in NTX with so many great options!I was sleeved 8/4 by Dr Cribbins, he did my mom on 9/4 and a good friend last week. Love him and his office!!! My mom and I did our research of docs before choosing him, including the Nicholson Clinic, Kim Bariatric and a few others. Drs Cribbins/Hamm came VERY highly recommended. Not to mention several of my patients saw them and had excellent experiences. Even my ortho said he wouldn't send him family to anytime but Cribbins/Hamm. They operate at either Plano Presbyterian or Baylor Frisco.Just my 2 cents. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App Thank you!

What's your diet like after your pouch heals?

Thank you for all of your insight, that is very helpful! And I'm glad to hear that RE: Stomach vs. Pouch. The term "pouch" has rubbed me the wrong way ever since I started researching WLS, haha!
