    ALDI Post-Op Finds

So excited that one just opened up in my town! Once the "newness" dies down, I will likely be a regular shopper.

    Periods and food

Like @Introversion mentioned, physical activity tends to blunt hunger for me. In the past, having a evening workout (even if it was just a 30-60 minute walk) really helped to curb evening hunger/snacking. Hang in there!

    Portion/Bariatric Plates

My nutritionist recommended eating off of a small child's plate. I have lots of small saucers and bread plates that I plan to use. I do intend to purchase some small spoons, to encourage small bites.

    Just an odd question

Maybe try Amazon? Often, I can find books priced better through them than anywhere else.
  6. Hope you are feeling better soon!
  7. Thanks so much for this. It helps me so much to know what to expect. I am in a different state and have a different surgeon, but this really does help to ease some of my anxiety about my upcoming procedure. 12 days to go!

    Periods and food

I understand; this is something I struggle with as well. Have you visited with your nutritionist about this? Maybe he or she could offer some guidance. For me, being active and having distractions helps. Going for a walk or the like. I know that's not always feasible, though.

    DIY sugar-free popsicles

So, these turned out really well! Just expect them to be very icy, because they are basically frozen flavored water. I think I'm going to get a mini ice cube tray to use for post-op mini-posicle making. I've been in the same boat. That's when the idea of freezing Vitamin Water Zero hit me. My surgeon also allows no sugar added fruit juice, but I thought I'd try the VWZ first. VWZ is sweetened with erythritol, which is a natural sugar substitute. I am sensitive to things like sucralose and aspartame, but erythritol and stevia do not bother me. Here is some info on the nutrition & ingredients in some of the flavors: http://vitaminwater.com/files/vitaminwater_zero_NutritionFacts.pdf

    Food Scale Recommendations?

I've owned this OXO scale for a few (or more?) years now and have no complaints. This is a great price on Amazon, too (it's $50 at Bed Bath & Beyond)! https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0020L6T7K/ref=asc_df_B0020L6T7K4974733/?tag=hyprod-20&creative=394997&creativeASIN=B0020L6T7K&linkCode=df0&hvadid=167134584690&hvpos=1o4&hvnetw=g&hvrand=349865002472285913&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9026835&hvtargid=pla-273908647829

    DIY sugar-free popsicles

I will post an update later today when I try one. I like the idea of adding in protein powder. Wonder how that would mix with the Vitamin Water. What's really cool about these molds is that they snap together, so you can make 1 popsicle or 6 at a time. Good for experimentation!

    Food options

Vegan here, too. My surgeon & nutritionist recommend 60 grams of protein per day, which is totally doable long-term. Sent from my SM-G930P using BariatricPal mobile app

    Food options

@sleever123 - I second the Gardein recommendation. Also, Boca has a good vegan burger with 17 grams of protein. And, of course protein powders/pre-made drinks. Vega, Orgain, Sun Warrior, and Garden of Life are all plant-based and contain great anounts of protein. My Super-Target has a good selection of these (& other branfs, too). I also recently discovered a new pre-made plant-based protein drink called Evolve. Low/no-fat, low sugar, high protein. Lastly, regarding matters surrounding a plant-based diet, I would highly recommend you follow Dr. Garth Davis & read his book, "Proteinaholic". Also, the plant-based bariatric Facebook groups below are very supportive. [emoji4] Sent from my SM-G930P using BariatricPal mobile app

    Healthy Eating on a budget

Oh my goodness. Well, could you go once a month or so & stock up on essentials? Everything is cheap at Aldi. Outside of that, what about Walmart or Sam's Club (especially frozen goods)? Sent from my SM-G930P using BariatricPal mobile app

  20. My NUT only went over the post-op diet. The pre-op portion came ditectly from my surgeon. My surgeon prescribes a low-fat diet, including salads, veggies, lean protein, & 1 protein shake a day as a supplement. Sent from my SM-G930P using BariatricPal mobile app

    Best low-impact post-op exercise?

Thank you both for your input!
  22. I am looking to purchase a treadmill, exercise bike, or elliptical to use post-op. Ideally, I would like to own an elliptical long-term, however, I am concerned that it may be too "bouncy" post-op with nausea, etc. (I've read several accounts of folks who experience nausea for many weeks post-op). For those of you who have been sleeved, what was your preference?

Which Foods Can’t You Eat Now?

Pre-op sleever here. I'm concerned about not being able to eat raw vegetables until at least 6 months after surgery. And only thoroughly cooked (i.e. mushy) vegetables at 6 weeks post-op. Even though I'm obese, I do love my vegetables and they make up a large portion of my diet. HOWEVER, the trade-off of attaining a healthy weight and hopefully being able to avoid the obesity-related diseases that run in my family is well-worth it.

    Best low-impact post-op exercise?

I do prefer walking outdoors for those same reasons. However, from a practical standpoint, I know there will be times, due to scheduling, weather, daylight, etc., when that will not be feasible. From past experience, if I have a treadmill/elliptical at home, I will use it when walking outside is not an option. My treadmill/elliptical will essentially be a backup plan.
