Need Pep talk! Lap Band Surgery 1/21/09!

Good Luck, it sounds like you are on the right track and that track is called loving yourself. The better you treat your body, the more love and respect you have for it. You will be able to drink again after five weeks, but you will be suprised at what a light weight you will be, even though lap band does not change the absorption of alcohol. I found that because I eat such a small amount of food, that I get drunk very easily, so be careful and good luck. Lap band was by far the easiest surgery I have ever had (hx c-section and gall bladder removal). It is the best thing I have ever done, I have had 0 complications so far. I had a lower BMI going into surgery(34) so my weight loss has been very slow. I just started to feel my band working about 2 months ago after my 5th fill, so far I lost 25lbs before surgery and 25 after. -
How much did you lose 4 months out?
meredithrock replied to Yayforme's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my surgery in july and i have only lost 24lbs. My BMI was 34 before surgery. I lost 26lbs prior to surgery but that took 1 year to loose. I am about 30lbs away from goal. I feel like I am behind schedule but I will keep my chin up and keep going! -
hi Gina, I also have pcos, my BMI was 34 on the day of my surgery and I lost about 26lbs before surgery. It took me almost 1 year to loose that because I have PCOS. I had my surgery on july 7th and I have lost 8lbs since then. I also had my first fill on august 5th. I am a nurse and mother of 3 small children(twins age 2 and a 4 year old). For me, I went with lap band because the statistics and complications of GB scared me. Traveling 2 hours for a fill sounds hard (I only travel about 25 minutes each way), keep in mind that you will probably only get the fills for about the first year or so. I will tell you that sweets do pass right through but you have to keep in mind that it is mind over matter. I personally would not put my self through surgery just to sabatoge my weight loss by eating sweets and other unhealthy foods. I also do not have anything like that in my house. Good luck and feel free to contact me if you have any other questions.

I take the whey protein from Gnc and add 1 sugar free vanilla pudding, ice cubes and 3 ounces of skim milk then I mix it in the blender.

New here and have a few questions...
meredithrock replied to jeromysgrl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You should not wait, my BMI was barely 35 and I was approved. I have PCOS, hTN and GERD. I had my surgery about 2 weeks ago, I lost 26lbs prior to surgery and 5lbs since surgery. You should expect that your weight loss may be much slower that others with higher BMI's. The band is not a magic bullet, just a tool. If i were you I would educate myself as much as possible and start a healthy way of eating today. The better shape you are in prior to surgery, the easier time you will have, good luck. -
In desperate need of advice...

I had my surgery July 7th. My surgeon told me to advance my diet to soft. This is what i ate today.2 poached egg whites for breakfast, cottage cheese and canteloupe for luch, fat free sugar free yougurt for snack, 1 big piece of grilled fluke with fresh herbs and olive oil with lemon for dinner. good luck -
An embarrassing question.

I was banded on july 7th, came home on the 8th and it was bussiness as usually caring for my three small children. I took the pain medication they sent my home with and was able to be up and around. We even went outside for a walk. I also had no problem going to the bathroom. -
As a nurse, I would not even consider having this surgery until you quit smoking. Furthermore, any doctor willing to operate on you without requiring you to quit sounds like he is in it for the money. I quit smoking over ten years ago, so I understand the addiction. You need to evaluate if you are having this surgery for cosmetic reasons or are you doing it for your health?

Hi, I am scheduled to be banded on july 7, 2008. I am very excited, but worried about my kids. I have 3 children under 4 and my husband works 10-12 hour days, 6 days per week. My mom will be with me after surgery to help with my kids but she has a bad back. My doctor says i can not lift them for 4 weeks. My twin boys just turned 2 and are use to me carrying them. Does anyone out there have any advice for me.

I am scheduled for surgery on 7-7-2008. I have three small children under the age of 4. Anyone out there in a similar situation? How did you deal post-op. I know I am not supposed to lift them for 4 weeks after surgery. I can use any advise that I can get. I am so excited about my surgery, but nervous about coping with my kids.
