  1. @Berry78 yes, the Golytely (Go Lightly)... did the trick. But even after being cleaned out, I am still throwing up and having severe abdominal/back pain. Will be calling my doctor in the morning if I'm not feeling better by then. Thank you and I hope that your preop problems with the protein shakes get resolved. Wish I had some advice for you on that issue, but I don't. Adding fiber is a good idea though.
  2. Update: Had appointment with my surgeon yesterday, and he said the cause of my nausea, vomiting, etc is my severe constipation. Came home early afternoon and he had me drink the entire container of "Go Lightly" (like you would do before a colonoscopy). Today I am left with severe stomach pain, but I took a muscle relaxer that the ER prescribed for stomach cramps and that has helped the pain tremendously. My surgeon said that sometimes people will deal with quite a bit of constipation after sleeve surgery, and boy have I ever! Almost since day one and I am currently 4 months post op. My doctor wants me to go back to taking Miralax every day again. Anyone else struggling with quite a bit of constipation after surgery? What did you do to help the problem?

    Dehydration and uti?

If you are in pain with UTI symptoms, then you need to get in to the doctor. Yes, keep pushing your fluids and they may need to get you hydrated, because once you are dehydrated, it is hard to get better on your own. Make sure you keep that doctor's appointment.

    Dehydration and uti?

Yes, it's happened to me twice. The first time they told me to go to the ER and they ran tests... found I was dehydrated and had a UTI. They kept me there and put me on IV fluids all day. Then 3 weeks later I had the UTI again and they put me on a different antibiotic. They did say that the dehydration is probably what led to the UTI. Good luck, I hope you feel better soon.

    Liquid Stage idea

I agree, the broth and the unflavored protein powder and the Premier protein shakes are great! Remember, you've got to get that protein! Also, during the liquid phase I could do cream soups and I did a lot of strained cream of celery soup (it was my favorite), with the unflavored protein powder mixed in. You can also do sugar free jello and I think most plans allow yogurt on the liquid phase.

Congratulations! I wish you the very best!
  8. Congratulations on the weight loss, you look fantastic!
  9. @Berry78 thank you, yes, I get some fat in my diet. I think I get a decent amount... thanks for the idea and I do have some coconut oil I could use a little more often. After thinking about my current issues, I am beginning to wonder if they might be related to a large incisional hernia that I have. I just read on one of the medical sites where hernias can cause nausea, vomiting and bowel troubles. I called my surgeon's office this morning and I have a 2:00 appointment for tomorrow afternoon. Thanks again for the advice.
  10. @Middus thank you for the reply... glad your nausea didn't stick around long.

    Carbs??

I think it differs from person to person. My nutritionist told me to go with 50 carbs a day, but when I was going that high, I couldn't lose any weight. I brought it down to under 40 grams a day and I started dropping pounds.
  12. @AlonsoReborn and @ColleenErin1974 lots of people from Texas on here. I am from Bryan/College Station. Had my surgery on Nov 14, 2016. Down over 50 pounds. What about y'all?

    Salads and protein

I started eating small salads around 8 weeks post op. I tolerated them really well. What I do is weigh my chicken out (2-3 ounces) and put it on top of my greens. I make sure I eat all my chicken and a some of the greens. I can't eat a big salad like I could before surgery, but I have found that I can eat quite a bit of lettuce--more than I can any other vegetable.

    Not losing much

Here's a link to a website that has some gastric sleeve info, including what your diet should be like and it gives you a list of foods, which is good. Also stresses getting that 60 grams of protein (at the least) and your 64 oz plus of liquids. I am sorry to hear that you were given no guidance after your surgery. That is just wrong. Hope this helps a little: http://www.obesitycoverage.com/the-big-gastric-sleeve-diet-guide/

    Not losing much

How are you getting your Protein? At 3 weeks post op, you can't get a lot of protein without drinking the shakes or adding unflavored Protein powder to your food or drinks such as decaf iced tea, Crystal Light, Powerade Zero. Remember that you need at least 60-80 grams of protein a day and at least 64 ounces of liquids a day. If you are not getting these two things in, then your weight loss is not going to pick up much. I always try to keep my carbs below 40 grams a day and my protein at 90 grams a day and it really helps me lose weight. I track everything with myfitnesspal, it is a neat things to use because you just input the foods you are eating and it adds up and totals your protein, carbs, fats and calories for the day.

Will I Ever Eat Spicy Again?

Hi, I'm almost 16 weeks post op and I have loved spicy foods for my entire life too.... until now. I still love the taste, but can't tolerate onions, jalapenos or Sriracha anymore. I used to go through a bottle of Sriracha in a matter of a couple weeks. Every now and then I will try a little Sriracha to see if I am able to handle it.... but not yet. I really hope that I will be able to enjoy spicy food again someday.

How did you feel when you woke up?

When I woke up in the recovery room I was in a lot of pain and I immediately asked for some pain med. They said that they couldn't give me any yet. I remember waiting in recovery awake and hurting for about an hour and then they took me up to my room and my parents were up there waiting and I felt miserable and didn't want to talk to anybody. But about 3 hours later, I felt so much better and my husband and parents were able to sit with me and visit. I walked later that day, which was good. But lucky me, I never had to deal with the gas pains that so many people say they have after surgery. Good luck and best wishes and congratulations on your upcoming surgery!

    Let's talk about stalls...

My first stall came right at the beginning of my 3 week post op mark. It lasted for two whole weeks. I am almost 4 months post op now and I've had a few stalls since then, most only lasting about a week at a time. Most of the time though, I am losing 2-4 pounds per week.
  19. Hello everyone, I am up early this morning with pain that I have been experiencing off and on for the past few days. I am over 15 weeks post op, gastric sleeve surgery. A few days ago, I noticed that I started getting nauseated after eating. Yesterday and the day before the nausea led to vomiting a couple of times. I've also noticed that I am not eating as much as usual and I feel fuller more quickly. It is almost to the point where I have no appetite. The pain I am experiencing is pretty bad at the moment. It's across my stomach area, almost under the ribs and it radiates to my back. No changes in my bowel movements... most of the time I am on the constipated side. I'm getting plenty of fluids. Any ideas? I am thinking that I might need to call the doctor before the weekend gets here.

Almost 4 Months Post Op With Pain

Hello and thank you all for your responses. I am happy to say that after a lot of pain and an early morning trip to the ER after I posted here this morning, all is well for the most part. All scans and xrays came back fine from the ER. They gave me a bag of IV fluids while I was there and morphine for the pain. Slight dehydration and a wonderful classic case of constipation. Gave me a prescription for something that I can't spell, but I believe it was something like "Go Lightly", only the nurse said, I would not go lightly upon taking it. I'm so thankful that this wasn't a gallbladder issue or anything else serious. Again, thank you for the help/responses.

Almost 4 Months Post Op With Pain

No, I haven't done and exercises or anything that could have caused a strain, etc. I am taking Miralax and just took some Milk of Magnesia at 4 this morning and that hasn't done anything yet, but usually does help with the constipation. Thank you for your input.

    Progresso Soup ...

I found that the best cream Soups for me were Campbell's. I was required to strain the soups so that there were no chunks of anything in there. My favorite was cream of celery. I would stay away from the real fattening and high carb soups, although some fat is good. Probably, at this point, you aren't going to be able to eat much anyway and the calories and carbs you are getting from the amount of Soup you will be able to eat really won't add up to much. If you're not already using it, myfitnesspal is great for tracking carbs, fats, Protein and calories.

    More milk or water?

I don't think that some milk would hurt, but be aware that milk has carbs and sugar in it. I am not a milk drinker, so to get the extra Protein, I use Isopure unflavored Protein powder and add it to my decaf iced tea every day. It's a great way to get the protein without the carbs and sugars. I'm 15 weeks post op, but I still drink a little bit of a Premier ready-to-drink shake a day too. Have you tried that kind? I don't think they taste powdery or chalky at all. The recommended grams of protein per day for me were 60-80, but I push mine up to almost 100 grams a day, because I have found that in combination with keeping my carbs below 40 grams a day, is really helping me drop the weight.

    Unjury

Yes, it is a great product... I used it for 2 months before switching over to Isopure unflavored Protein powder. The only reason I switched brands was to save a little money. When I was on the post op liquid stage, I mixed the unflavored Protein Powder in my cream of celery (strained) Soup. You can also mix it into broths and drinks. At 15 weeks post op, I am using Isopure to get a little additional protein each day.... I mix it into my decaf iced tea and I like it a lot. Or you could mix it into Powerade Zero or Crystal Light.

    Travel/vacation

If you will be at 11 weeks, then maybe you will be on the regular foods stage? So you can get something bariatric friendly... like fish or chicken with veggies. Stay away from the carbs and fried foods. Remember to stick to your plan and get your protein and healthy fats and small portion of veggies if you have room to eat them. I'm 15 weeks post op and I've been out to eat twice. Once I got fish with veggies, the next time I got chicken. I took leftovers home both times. There's no shame in not being able to finish the food on your plate... just enjoy what you have and the company you are with.
