Federal BCBS paid for my sleeve 100%, minus the copayments for the hospital and my surgon!
kell911 replied to Ambwee's topic in Insurance & Financing
I am in my 2month of supervised diet and I has so many questions. I still have a lot. I do know from talking to my pt advocate at the surgeons office that they will not approve any bmi under 35 even with the co morbities. Do you have documented weight history for the last 2 years? 2014 2015. They need those to confirm that you have been over your bmi. How tall are you? What state are you in? I am in Texas. -
Well, I have date to meet with my surgeon on Jan 16, 2017. Few more steps to go. HAPPY.

I am freaking out right now! I just got off the phone with the surgeons office and I was talking about the weight documentation for the last 2 years. She was telling me that the insurance company is very strict with the numbers being below the 35 bmi for that time frame. I feel like if I do all this and then they tell me no I have wasted my families money and time on this dream of mine. I do not know what to do. Feeling lost and I don't know what to do. Is there anyone that has any helpful information????? -
I found weights in a file but they are slightly under the 35 bmi, I have 3 comorbidities that I am linking into this with my bmi of 36.6. My Dr agrees that the surgery will be beneficial and I should move forward. I nervous that the insurance won't go for it because of the other numbers.

Let me ask you this, I have been seeing my Primary for the last 2 months for monthly check in's. Did you have to see a nutritionist for 3 months or is your primary ok to document it? also, how did you get your documented weight history for 2 years? I will be doing a seminar tomorrow and hopeful meeting with the surgeon for the first time in a week or so. I am a little nervous I might forget something. -
What type of weight history do they require? How much is what I am asking, I under stand 2 years but what I need clarified is how many in those 2 years? What If I do not have 2 years back to back?

Husband not on board with me having the sleeve!
kell911 replied to Dknal2's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I feel I am in a the boat next to you. I have been talking to my husband for the last year about having the surgery. We now have insurance that will cover it. I sat with him last night to be exact and I explained to him all the work I have been doing for this process and how I would like to have everything in to be approved by Feb at the latest. He then says he supports me but then begins to tell me all the things I need to change to make it work for me. I then tried to talk to him know that there will be changes made daily, and that I have been making changes and already. Well, he says he hasn't seen any. It was tough hearing him talk the way he was. It felt like he was not supportive as he said he was. I am moving forward with this process. No matter how rough it may be. I am 5' 2" bmi 36.9. With 3 co morb's. I am 41 and I have to make this choice for myself. I am in Texas. I will be using BCBS blue distinction center in Austin Texas. -
I will be using this insurance as well . Husband got a federal job and I am trying for Feb or sooner. I am in my 2nd month of supervised diet with the Dr's, working on the other stuff. I have only seen the 2016 requirements, where can I find the 2017 requirements? Thanks.

Congratulations. I am just now starting the process. How has it been with you? I am a little nervous about the process and getting approved. -
Hello all, I have a few questions. My insurance is changing to BCBSFED, with my husband working at the hospital on base. Where do I start the process and who should I contact first? I feel a little lost with the information. Help please.
