Pre-Op Liquid Diet
abbielynn1993 replied to SassyScienceNerd's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
All Dr.'s offices are so different. I am currently on day 2 of a 14 day pre op diet. (Surgery on March 20th). The goal is to shrink my liver. I can only have clear liquids. Jell-o, popsicles, tomato juice, fruit juices high in potassium, chicken, beef, or vegetable broth, water, crystal lite, powerade zero or G2. -
March 20th! Day 2 of my 14 day pre op diet today.

Any March Sleevers

I'm in Iowa. Hoping to have surgery scheduled in March!! -
Glad people seem to be doing ok! I feel so behind since I haven't had surgery yet! I had a bunch of pre-op work done yesterday... I can only imagine how much my bill is going to be after having 10-15 different blood tests, 2 urine tests, 2 chest x-rays, and an abdominal ultrasound. But, it's for a good cause!

I'm from Iowa. I have healthcare through the school (I teach) and it's a small mom/pop kind of health insurance. My surgery center says they've only have 2 other people with this insurance come through and they were both approved within 1 day. My insurance only requires 3 things, 100 pounds overweight, 2 doctor letters and pre-authorization. I'm a little nervous about being approved though. I'm much overweight (my BMI is 57), but I do not have sleep apnea, diabetes, or high blood pressure (surprisingly). I do have back pain, and some joint pain when exercising/moving. Can insurance deny me, just because I'm overweight, and have no other heath problems?

I haven't posted much lately. My sleep study went well. Blood tests, chest X-ray and ultrasound on Thursday morning. Therapy appointment on January 31st. Hoping for surgery in March when I can (hopefully) have my out of pocket money saved up! On the right track, but very nervous for when they send my stuff to insurance.

I'm not sure yet Mindi. Feel free to add me on Facebook! My name is "Abbie Lynn" on Facebook.

Hi again all! I had my first consultation appointment on Tuesday the 22nd, and it went very well. I need to set up an appointment with a therapist to do my preop stuff, get a few preop tests done, and do a sleep test for the dr. I need to send in previous medical history so they can send in my stuff for insurance approval. If approved, I could have surgery in February or March!! But... I have to come up with my out of pocket cost the week before surgery, (at least 80% of it) which could be at a maximum of $1600.. Ugh.. Saving as much as I can...

Awesome, thank you!! I know my insurance doesn't require any sort of testing or dieting.. so I'll be interested to see how much needs to be done for Dr. Glascock. So exciting!!
-
I'm super nervous for my first consult on Tuesday! What should I expect at Glascock's office?? They said I could be there for up to 4 hours.

Dr. Glascock in Cedar Falls Iowa

I know this is way back to 2007, but I'm meeting with Dr. G. for my first consultation on Nov. 22nd. If my insurance doesn't require a 6 month diet.. will he? -
I have my first consultation on November 22nd in Cedar Falls, IA!

I have my first consultation on November 22nd. I've contacted my insurance to find out if WLS is covered, it is if it's deemed necessary, along with anything needed with surgery (hospital stay, IV, IV medications, anesthetic, etc.). I also asked what the requirements were in order to be deemed necessary. They stated: --100+ pounds overweight (my BMI is quite a bit over 40...) --2 surgeons deeming it necessary (don't know if I go to see 2 different surgeons or how that works) --pre-authorization through insurance. I've read about many people having to do different tests, doing a diet, etc... Could that still be my case even if insurance didn't tell me over the phone? Has anyone only had minimal requirements for their insurance? Did you have lots of requirements through the Dr. office if you did/didn't have surgery requirements? Lots of questions, but would love for anyone to reply!! Thank you!!
