    When to start logging food?

This is a good point. For the past few months I've just been following what the bariatric center asked. It's become my security blanket admittedly. I now realize that my mandated weekly group visits are coming to an end. No more weekly accountability. The strange thing is that a month or so ago, I would have said "I am so done with these bariatric appointments. I'm so ready for December. I'm ready to not feel like I am having my every move accounted for." The process moved fast even though in that time period it felt like time was dragging. But once I looked at my health portal today and saw I had no "surgery" appointments this week I felt a little like a bird getting kicked out of the nest. The center now has new people beginning and working through their protocols and I'm left to my own devices. I have been given "the tool" from them and now it's time to build my toolbox up. When to start logging food?

I'm concerned that will be my issue too. How are you surviving pureed? I am not "allowed" cheese and I was so pumped about a ricotta bake. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  4. This is a slippery slope for me. Anytime, I have lost weight before, I've been outright and honest. My last major diet I worked in an office but now I work from home. Luckily, that aspect is gone. I know people that have had surgery and when asked they reply with counting calories, eat less exercise more, medically supervised diet. I don't know. Part of me wants to be honest because people with average sized stomachs just can not really eat like a weight loss surgery patient. I would feel slightly deceitful but I'm not sure how to deal either. That kind of stuff isn't covered during the process and it should be because no matter how much support the bariatric center thinks you should have, it doesn't always align with real life or your comfort level. Mean people and opinions don't magically disappear. That all being said, I know exactly how you feel!!! None of my family, friends, or boyfriend's family knows about surgery. Thanksgiving will be a challenge and it's hard to say "no" especially because effort was put into making everyone food. I intend to not sit at the "main table." There will be enough people that I can give up my seat and then I can sit on the couch. Fill up plate, nibble, fold plate in half, throw away. If that is not feasible, maybe you can say you already had a large lunch before arriving? You could feign being sick? As you can see, I'm conflicted too. Best of luck! 9. I had severe GERD. I used to take liquid antacid, Tums, and acid controller plus a daily PPI to deal with it. I had a 4 cm hernia repaired during sleeve surgery and have had no issues since. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    What to take to hospital

I took my robe, slippers, iPad, phone, charger, medicines (they didn't have one of mine), contact case, toothbrush, toothpaste, underwear, and change of clothes. I was pretty well set. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

2 pounds loss after 1 week

I only lost 2 pounds since surgery on 11/3. I get it ---maybe I lost inches, maybe I'm still trying to eliminate Fluid from surgery, maybe the body is in shock, etc. But it still doesn't stop the frustration. I used to be ruled by a scale. It dictated my daily life. I don't want to slip back into that mindset. Just ranting Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Rash across abdomen and mid-back pain.

  13. Hi all. I had surgery last Thursday. Since Monday I have a rash across my abdomen. I have an appointment tomorrow and I just feel like they're going to tell me it's hormone changes. I also have mid-back pain on the right side. Sometimes I'll have an almost labored or skipped breath when inhaling. I just want some options because I know I've been getting in enough fluids and walking and Protein. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Oh, you mean like the Republicans that rallied around Obama? #notmypresident Right??!! People have not supported Obama for years. SCOTUS? That seat should not have been vacant into a new administration. And Trump was denying Obama as a true US citizen up until a few months ago. So now the dissenters should support Trump? Nah. Not how it works. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

How did you feel 3 days post-op?

I was feeling more like myself than not 3 days out. I was on no pain meds. It was most difficult to get in and out of bed. Otherwise, I was fine. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  17. Funny ... I just asked this, question at the seminar and doc said it can stretch...hmmmm. Sent from my SM-G900V using the BariatricPal App Our NUT told us in a class that the carbonation in soda can expand our sleeve and stretch it out.Double hmm...why are we being lied to?? I also have a conspiracy theory on the cpap, so I'm probably just suspicious all the way around. Lol Sent from my SM-G900V using the BariatricPal App I feel like you do. There's so much differing opinion from centers to surgeons to dietitians that I don't know who to follow. There's too much variation. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App Funny ... 3 days post op

I had one ounce every 15 minutes. It's more about staying hydrated during week 1 than overeating or oversipping. Give yourself a few more hours and the feeling should pass. It gets easier, I swear! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    When did you drink alcohol?

Oh my goodness. I'm not sure if I'm more jealous of your views of the mountains and Water or the meaderies/wineries! It's not easy. I know you can attest to that too. During the pre-op phase I was so one-track mind to surgery but real life doesn't really kick in until after surgery. I'd say that is when the real struggle begins because there's no room for a little cheat here or there. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

2 pounds loss after 1 week

True. I dropped weight in not the healthiest way to get to the bariatric surgery center's goal for surgery. They were threatening cancellation unless I lost 4 pounds so I barely ate, drank Water until I thought I could drink no more, took laxatives, and exercised far too much in a week's time to make goal. It was bad. I think my body is pretty pissed at me. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    When did you drink alcohol?

Blech. The Toranis taste like wood chips or sawdust to me right now. I don't miss drinking; I miss not fitting in per se. For example, Tuesday. I needed -like 3- drinks. We had people over. There was drinking and it was tough. And it's not like I can have sparkling cider. We are tailgating next Saturday. I'm not even excited about it. It's just my boyfriend and me (no children) so I attribute this to mid -30s blues. We aren't super social and we are introverts. We are both somewhat disconnected from our families. We used to enjoy going out. We used to have a beer at a brewery every once in a while. We used to try new restaurants. And it's cold now. We don't live in a large city so it's not like we can go to museums, zoos, plays. It kinda sucks. I sleep alot to get through my boredom and my Amazon Prime Video/Netflix accounts have gotten a workout. I feel like a teenager again. Sorry. This turned into a tiny rant. But yeah. So Humiliated

I know how you feel. I went to an event about 2 weeks before surgery. We sat front row at a local theater play and I felt so huge. I was embarrassed and thought everyone thinks I'm too fat to sit here. I will say that frustrations change. I'm a week post op. It gets better but as your priorities change, you find that there are new frustrations. For example, today I can smell EVERYTHING which seems ok until you realize you smell putrid smells and sweet smells are cloyingly sweet (for me) Go to the show if you want to go. Maybe you can say that the chairs hurt your back and they can provide accommodations. But if not, it's all good. But know it gets better Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
