Can't speak for the US version of support groups but I was defo nervous for mine as lots rest on how well you react on the diet your placed on over the 8 weeks. 4*2 hour classes, weighed at each one and they take you through all aspects of diet, life skills, surgery and also during this time you will see surgeon who has last say on surgery. If they say no, you are screwed. Best advice I can give is make a list of questions, no question is stupid and be prepared to be under very strict guidelines. I've used trans acid before and it does work but it's not really designed for long term use. If I remember right they had a psych evaluation, blood work, ECG, drugs test, endoscopy, colonoscopy if needed. 5 week liver shrink diet and classes to attend.
