Day 19 Post Surgery...and an interesting visit with the Dr.
MyKdsDad replied to a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Bonnie, glad to see your doing well. Joy had her two week post-op visit today and she's down 13 lbs...even after making her Carnation Instant Breakfasts with ice cream...LOL Her first real meal after 3 weeks of liquids.....garlic mashed potatoes from Chili's. Three more weeks to her first fill. -
Julie, congratulations! Dr Jay really is great! My wife had her two week post-op visit today and she's on mushies now. Lost 13 lbs since surgery on the 28th of December. Shannon, I did find out today that fills are $50 in Dr Jay's office, $150 - $250 if they do them in the out patient clinic at Medical City Dallas. Next month Dr Jay is moving to his new offices and they haven't set an amount for them, over there, yet.

Leading up to surgery, a good supply of liquids...remembering that this is only for 7 days (in my wife's case). Most people here could do that in their sleep. After surgery, healing. You aren't looking to lose weight. Joy would have a instant breakfast and make it taste a bit better with a scoop of ice cream. As the swelling goes down you start getting hungry...stick to your "heavy liquids". She loved the cream of potato soup and V-8. Joy had her two week post-op appt today and the doc put her on mushies. Her first BIG meal in the last three weeks.......mashed potatoes. Good luck!

Jennifer, my wife's doctor's PA told us, hold out your hand and look at your palm. The ball at the end of your thumb should be your veggies. The small depression next to it, right in the middle, should be your sweets. The rest of your palm (not all of your fingers, just the palm) should be your protein (read as MEAT).

Pam, click on "Quick Links" in the blue strip at the top, then click on "Mark Forums Read".

Regina, that is what the insurance lady at the doctor's office said that my wife would have to do. However, with a BMI over 50 and a good strong letter of necessity from her doctor she was approved by BCBS in about two weeks. No supervised dieting at all.

*said tongue in cheek* I think they should change the name of this thread to "THE THREE PEOPLE IN NEW HAMPSHIRE WHO HAVE THE BAND" .... :heh:

Hey, Nick, how about a picture or two for motivation? Like maybe a before and after?

Or it could be one of those soap dispensers that is connected to a motion sensor. You pass your hand in front of it and it spits out a little dollop of soap.

Vericks, just a quick word of encouragement...It's been a long time coming to this point in your life. Patience (I know...) If this Dr can't get his head out of his...uh...well....find another doctor. If need be, go to a different city (my wife's dr is a two hour drive away). It will come. Getting the insurance company to agree to it is the biggest part and you've already got that, so.... In the words of Bobby McFerrin... DON'T WORRY, BE HAPPY!

Georgia, how nervous are you now? Only ten days to go...

miboyer, I saw that you were worried about putting something in your stomach every couple of hours....well, as long as it is low cal or no cal I would think that you SHOULD lose some weight. 4 lbs in one day....you go! -
welcome Judy, sorry about the sticky situation you got in to.

So a Yum Cha in the south would be a pot luck dinner? Or in my case, a family reunion. LOL -
Shannon, he's been great with my wife, so far. She has her two week check up on Thursday. I'm sorry, I don't know what he charges for a fill, but I do know that he does them at the Richardson Surgery Center. WoooHooooo, 20 lbs ! That's great! Congratulations! I believe that with the fills, they sort of have a set amount they put in and then they go from there. Most of what I've been hearing is 1.5 cc.

One afternoon the pastor came to call on her and she showed him into her quaint sitting room. She invited him to have a seat while she prepared tea. As he sat facing her old Hammond organ, the young minister noticed a cut-glass bowl sitting on top of it. The bowl was filled with water, and in the water floated, of all things, a condom! When she returned with tea and scones, they began to chat. The pastor tried to stifle his curiosity about the bowl of water and its strange floater, but soon it got the better of him and he could no longer resist. "Miss Beatrice", he said, "I wonder if you would tell me about this?"pointing to the bowl. "Oh, yes," she replied, "Isn't it wonderful? I was walking through the park a few months ago and I found this little package on the ground. The directions said to place it on the organ, keep it wet and that it would prevent the spread of disease. Do you know I haven't had the flu all winter?"

Diane, we haven't tried them, but I'm sure that is one way to eat around your band. And some of those fruits that we fed the kids (they're 23 and 25 now) were pretty darn good.

MsJoy says that on a scale of 0 to 10, 0 being absolutely no pain and 10 being "I'm going to die it hurts so bad", she would rate the worst pain at a 2. She didn't even bother with the prescription pain meds. She just took a few tylenols.

Good news...could you send us some of that rain? We're suffering from some grass fires and a pretty good drought. -
I can just see the new Ebay commercial on television. Some guy singing as he sets up his surgical practice and hangs his shingle outside the front door. LOL
