Betty, she has really been hurting in her left shoulder. Bad enough she called the Doc today. They told her to get and take some Prilosec. They also advised that she try to avoid extreme cold or hot foods. Her protein shake in the morning and her morning coffee. (And she is going to HATE that. She's one of those people that if it doesn't cause blisters on her tongue, it isn't hot enough (that's a JOKE, people)) Time will tell.....

Doc gave the wife a 6cc fill in an 11 cc band last Thursday, her first. She's been able to get down liquids but her one attempt at mushies caused her to think of it as coming back up after the 4th or 5th bite. I guess you would call that restriction. And with the liquids she gets down about 6 spoonfuls of soup and she's done for THAT meal.
-
Angie, don't let this bring you down, but you know the facts. Right now you have NO restriction. Your band is wide open. You might have a little due to the swelling from surgery, but that too shall pass. At that point was when Joy was thinking of gnawing on my leg. You get REAL hungry. Just stick to the liquids and mushies and you MIGHT lose some. But until then, don't obsess.

Angie, the pain issue is different for everyone. My wife had hardly ANY pain post-op. All she took were a few Tylenols. Some people go through 3 or 4 bottles of the prescription pain med. As for the weight loss, that will come later. Don't worry about losing OR gaining right now. Just concentrate on healing right now. Don't do or eat anything that might compromise your band. Stay with the liquids and take it easy. The weight loss will come in time. Good luck!

Kelli, that was my wife's treat for doing well with everything else, almost every evening I would drive her thru the Sonic and get her a small vanilla shake. Just remember that right now your job is to heal.

Hi Terri, welcome to LBT. I'm not the banded one, it's my DW. I guess you could say I'm the cheerleader. Congratulations on getting your band. And yes, that seems to be a bit high to me, but then again, he sort of has a "captive audience" up there in AK. Down this way (Dallas TX area) I've even heard of doctors doing fills in the office for $50. Good luck with everything....

Welcome to LBT, Sassy

And as one of the resident spouses let me say that I've felt the same as your hubby. But after 30+ years, I've come to realize that it isn't the amount of food she takes in, so keeping your mouth "shut" just isn't going to cut it. Welcome to LBT and remember (hiding eyes and covering ears) you can ask ANY question in here. These women have no couth.....LOL (of course, I'm speaking in general terms, no one in particular. Right Alexandra?) -
ok Chez, let us all in on how you have managed this fantastic weight loss in so short a time....please.
-
Hey, the baby spoon is a good idea, Jenna, thank you. I'll see to it that she gives it a try. I've been a bit concerned because they gave her a 6cc "blind" fill right off the bat. They made sure she could sip a little water and keep it down, but that was it.
-
Well, hello Court, welcome back! My DW just had her first fill last week and she is REALLY feeling the change. With your second I'm sure you will start to get the "hang" of all this. Good luck and many happy losses to you.

:update: Went to lunch yesterday, Sunday, with the family. Joy decided to try some mash potatoes and refried Beans. She managed about two bites of both before she felt it trying to come back up. Afterwards she told me that she guesses that she is going to feel her restriction right about where your breastbone starts, right next to your throat. The rest of the day she resorted to liquids and a little cup of pudding. So far, so good. She jumped up this morning, got ready for work, did her Carnation/milk/diet ice cream (29 grams Protein, 360 calories), packed up her ISOpure/V8/bottled Water and headed off to work....

almost 5 days postop- what should i expect now?
MyKdsDad replied to ROGER-FL's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Roger, my DW went back to work on the 5th day. Just keep something at hand to drink, don't let yourself get too hungry. But remember, right now (until your first fill) your job is to heal. Don't worry about gaining or losing. -
Rene, good luck tomorrow and God bless....

How do you deal with it??? Lose a bunch of weight and tell her IT IS the "magic pill" and then stick around after her surgery and hold her hand while the "magic pill" does all the works......waaahaaaaahaaaaaa (evil laugh)
-
WOW Patti! That's fantastic! Welcome to LBT. To what do you contribute your huge success??? I sure most of the newly banded would like to know.

Here, here, Brad....and as I have been reminded by more than one of the good ladies here at LBT, just remember the words, "Yes Dear".

Steph, I know that there are "companies" out there that will loan you the money for your surgery. I'm not sure if you have to have it up front or not.Tell Arlene (Dr J's Physician Assistant) or Dr J that Joy and Randy sent you.....LOL
-
Steph, 1. It depends on your individual policy with United Health. Apply for approval and go from there. 2. I believe Dr. J charges $15,000 for the whole shootin' match. 3. My wife (who had the surgery) had it done on Wednesday and was back at work the following Monday. She is a receptionist at a Dental Office. 4. That also depends on your insurance. Or if self pay, might be a toss up. Joy had hers at Pine Creek Medical Center off of Harry Hines. It was a great experience. 5. I've heard that it usually has to be over 40. Or you must have some co-morbidities...I.E. high blood pressure, diabetes, edema, et al 6. Hard? Well...Joy is 5'3" and 301 lbs with a BMI over 50. Then you must pass the stress test. Not really hard at all. 7. He told Joy he would do it right after she had the stress test.

Laura, after you go through the process of picking out all the options and you get to the last page, right under you new ticker there are windows with code in them. The first window, highlight all of the code and right click it, then click copy. Come back to LBT and click User CP at the far left of the blue bar at the top. At the left, click on Edit Signature. In the dialogue box, right click and click paste. Then at the bottom, click Save Changes (I think it is).

I know that Doctor Jayaseelan charges $15K for his self pay patients. That includes the surgeon, the hospital and the gas passer.

I work in a coal mine in eastern Central Texas. I've been out there going on 27 years.

Prayers are always going out to those of us that are the victims of the cagers. Should I send a few Bandito buddies over to talk to this woman...*evil grin*?

Hi Shanna, MsJoy here, it's not really chest pains, back in my shoulder like right after surgery...

A follow up to yesterday...she's been complaining of some pain in her left breast area...not exactly the breast, but just to the left of the sternum. Any ideas of what it could be?
