My surgeons office has ended up removing almost half of the balloons they put in within 2 months. People don't seem to be tolerating them. I asked, jokingly, if people got their money back and she answered, seriously, that they did not. As for the OP, you have the final word about which surgery to have my surgeon pitch the bypass as fastest, with higher "average" weight loss. I decided on the less drastic sleeve and also to NOT be average. As for "hitting the gym" as a person who has lost the same 100 pounds seven times I hope you reconsider surgery. I'm sorry I didn't do it years ago.

Anyone else the waiting is killing them?
Aggiemae replied to nandy's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Try to think of this time as preparing instead of just waiting. The things you learn in your casses and appointments are tools, just like the surgery. Your chances off success (in ANYTHING) increase significantly when you go into them well educated and prepared. -
This does not seem like normal loss!
Aggiemae replied to Monesty's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Keep a food journal of every bite of food and sip of Water. At the end of the day add up your Protein and carbs. I shoot for 4:1 no less than 100 grams of Protein and no more that 25 grams of carbs . Stick to whole foods without additives and try to drink as much free (clear) water as you can. Lots (most?) of overweight people don't drink nearly enough water. I have actually wondered if we are actually fat because we don't drink enough water. -
Birth control and weight gain

An implant or IUD? -
Bill, you has a phone in your dorm room? Fancy! One of my son's is shy and very particular about who he will except as a friend. Age18-22 where heartbreaking for me to watch and included a girlfriend who we knew would nd up being a "bunny boiler". He got through it (so did we) and out on the other side now, he is a introspective but mostly happy man, with a full social life. Good that you reached out to friends from the past, trust that your future will be bright.

This does not seem like normal loss!
Aggiemae replied to Monesty's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Can I ask what kind of food did you incorporated into your diet to up your fat intake? I have my "go tos" but would love to have more options? avocado, mayonnaise, olive oil, sometimes heavy cream or butter. I use full fat yogurt, 2% milk cottage cheese and 1% milk. Keep in mind that you started off at a weight that is close to some people's "goal weight" and that you've lost 5% of your total weight. -

I read your post and it does seem like you need more fat in your diet. You can increase your Protein without worrying about calories even double it as long as you restrict carbohydrates. I mix my tuna with regular mayo, zero carbs. Check the lable, does zero fat yogurt higher in carbs that natural 2% yogurt? How about the Apple sauce? Carbs can really creep up on you and stall your progress, even if you are eating fewer calories. Try increasing your exercise to 30 minutes every 2nd day and focusing on eating protein and eliminating anything with more that a few grams of carbs and see if it makes a difference. -

How many times do I have to go
Aggiemae replied to shon74's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
How ever many time your insurance and the surgon requires. -
Sometimes even post menopausal woman have bleeding after abdominal surgery. I had hot flashes so bad the Dr put me back on hormones. So many hormones are stored in fat get released as women who've had WLS lose so much weight so quickly. Unless you want be pregnant be sure to use birth control. Ovulation is another consequence of rapid weight loss.

I notice that your start weight was 192. I have noticed that people who weigh more tend to lose quicker at first. Probably has more to to with osing retained Water that fat. I felt I was losing slowly and discussed it with my NUT. Her advice was to increase my calories by adding more fat... It's that whole body in starvation mode thing... I did it and lost five pound in the next 7 days and at least 2 pounds a week since. I would be losing more but I slacked off on exercise last week. -
How to log food and drink when you keep weird hours
Aggiemae replied to Andell's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Just write down the time and exactly what you ate and drank. Basically as long as you are losing weight you are doing it right. I log from when I get up till when I go to bed. Sometimes I'm on call and don't get to sleep for 24 one those days I eat every 4-6 hours but then I sleep for 15 hours so I th I no that the am out of food I eat comes out about t he same from week to week. -
A 1/2 cup of papaya has about 75 grams of carbs. Apples, about 8 grams of carbs per 1/2 cup would probably be better. A serving of Benifiber has only 4 grams of carbs.

Smoking Marijuana Preop
Aggiemae replied to BubblesOhSoSleeved's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
There is a mouth swab check to make sure a patient isn't using immediately pre op and that would be enough if patients where more honest about their inhaled marijuana use. Smoking anything increases mucus production and narrows you airway. Either can be an issue when you are having anesthesia. Lots of pot smokers make the claim that they don't inhale as much smoke as tobacco smokers but I know more than one or two people who "wake and bake" and stay baked until the go back to bed at night. Your Dr probably knows someone like this too. The best thing to do is talk honestly with your doctor and let him/her know how much marijuana you smoke and then developed a pre op plan, like switching to tincture or articles, that works for you AND makes your surgery as safe as possible. -
Addicted to My 600 pound life.
Aggiemae replied to Redmaxx's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The people on that show are not representative of (for lack of a better word) "normal" WLS patients. Imagine watch an episode of my life. Come with me to get a pedicure, listen to my husband and me while we have coffee and talk about out day or nag my son into cleaning his bathroom, then watch me hang out with my girlfriends... I have a wonderful full life but you'd have to film me for a few months to get an hour of anything resembling drama. When I saw the show for the first time I was appalled. Since then I have (re) considered. Could let thousands of strangers watch me laying in bed and having someone wait on me (and wash me!) because I can't take care of myself in exchange for free medical care? Maybe. As for the viewers of reality TV...The whining miserable self destructive patients and their dysfunctional enabling families reflect poorly on more typical WLS patients and that bothers me. I do get why people like watching "My 600lb life", and reality TV in general. It's the same as driving past a wreckon the highway...we know it's messed up but can't help ourselves, we just have to look. -
It's only been 2 months since surgery and I can't even remember what it's like to NOT be constipated. The surgon says it's normal due to the combination of low volume, low bulk and high Protein. I get at least 64 oz of Water every day. Chia seeds in my morning shake, Senna tea late afternoon Two stool softeners at bedtime AND still need a dose of Milk of Magnesia every few days. I started to record poops when I realized I couldn't remember how long it had been since my last one...

There e no BAD foods, but some foods are better type Han others. My NUT APPROVES of any nutritious food in moderation. And lets face it, with a stomach that hold just a little over 3 oz I can only eat in moderation. Cheese! I make "crackers" out of cheese for spreading tuna and chicken salad on: The only special thing you need is parchment paper, though I have made it on pieces of brown pepper bag. Preheat t he over to 375 Cover a shallow baking pain with paper Shred 2 oz of cheese and add salt and pepper to taste. make six equal mounds on the paper. Leave room they will spread. Bake for ~10 minutes. (8 in a convection oven) check every minute after the first 7. It's ready when thin and fairly brown on the edges. Remove from oven and slide the paper onto a cold surface. It's crisper if it cools faster. In a few minutes take it off the paper with a thin spatula and if the cheese is oily blot the crisps with a paper towel. Once cooled store loosely wrapped in paper at room temperature, keeps for one or two days. They stay crisp in the frig and even freezer as old as they are in an air tight container. Six "crackers" with a Protein spread = 2-3 servings It might take a few trays to get the texture just right but after that it's really easy to make these. pizza Crackers:toss together ~ 2oz pre shredded "mexican cheese blend" with 1 table spoon of shredded parmesan, a dash of ground pepper and a few shakes of each, dried basil garlic powder, and dried tomato powder. You can add also two slices of pepperoni

Not being able to lose weigh or very slow weight lose while making an effort is a valid reason for WLS. I was on a 1200 calorie a day diet for three months and as hard as I tried only lost 3 pounds!
