Election Night Menu? 'Must See' TV
Aggiemae replied to Dr-Patient's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
We have a watch party. There will be food (and liquor) for celebration or to console. I amazing protein shake and (hopefully) a bowl of chicken broth to celebrate the election of our first female president. -
OCTOBER SLEEVERS- How Ya Doin'?
Aggiemae replied to TxCalico's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Still resting and napping but better every day! -
Didnt you get instructions from your surgeon? I was told to strive for 90gr8 of protein a day. The protein supplement I use has 20 grams a scoop. For example: I add that to the amount of protein in the food (8 oz of 1% milk is 8 grams so 28grams with the powder).

I think The Premier shakes are gross. I can see why so many people complain about first and second stage liquid diet if this is all they have to eat. I got samples of different brands and chose the one I liked best (Unjury) but most people on my pre op classes just go to costco and get Premier and then complain about it. Seems to me that ENJOYING what you eat/drink would help you succeed. Maybe it's a weird sort of self esteem issue?

Hate sugar free stuff. What do I do?
Aggiemae replied to Ssze1109's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Consider unflavored Protein powder to mix with savory liquids. Or add it to plain 1% milk to boost the protein without sweetness. Artificial and non caloric sweeteners, just like sugar and honey are best use in moderation. One glass of ice tea sweetened with splendor isn't going to have much effect on an over all healthy well balanced diet. And really, one (or two) teaspoon of sugar (25-50 calories) per day won't matter much in your long term weight loss. As for "hating" non caloric sweeteners, if ths is someone's biggest worry before major surgery they should count their blessings -
I got past the hungry stage, THANK GOD
Aggiemae replied to The New Kel's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was really hungry the first few days, less now. Good to know this is normal as I had read that reducing the stomach size would reduce hunger. I admit now that it could have been emotional hunger due to all the post op pain. I was waking up at night and thinking about cheeseburgers. -
8 days out can I eat eggs and turkey sausage?
Aggiemae replied to amiskinnyyet's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sausage? Did your surgeon explain the risks of extending your stomach one week after major abdominal surgery? If he/ she is out of town call his off to speak ever is covering from him. If he has no coverage he should be reported to the state medical board. -
I find that cups that hold 4 and 6 oz are helpful with portion control. It's so easy to "eye ball" yourself into over eating.

Compression. No one suggested it pre open but I got a compression (tank top style) 3days post op and the incision pain was reduced by half immediately. Almost no pain now as long as I am wearing it.

Here it is - my newbie post
Aggiemae replied to rolosmom7's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
it's more important to get enough Protein that calories. Have you considered that your body is having g problems digesting beef? I read that chicken and fish digest better and so provide more protein per oz. Also, remember to take a good quality multi Vitamin plus Vit c for healing and Calcium for bones. -
Protein protein protein!
Aggiemae replied to kjkashmaniac's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I add a scoop of unjury unflavored Protein powder to everything to boost the protein. I scoop has 10 grams. It's lists cheaper in the canisters than the packets. I scoop in 8oz of 1% milk is 28 grams of protein and 270 calories. I can only drink 4oz at a time. Also add it to bone broth, but it can't be hotter than 140 degrees or it clumps up. I mix it with yogurt and cottage cheese 1scoop per cup ahead of time. Sometimes in V8 juice... I do miss veggies. There are probably other brands of unflavored protein out there. -
Despite 6 months of prep on the third day post op I had a sudden flash that doing this was insane, that I am insane and my world was never going to right it's self. That was just a week ago. Thing look much different already.

Not telling anyone. What do you say?
Aggiemae replied to Ssze1109's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I don't plan on telling anyone besides my husband and two close friends. My larger circle includes some mean spirited gossips. Both are overweight and judgmental. No thanks. -
Isqueezed the sleep study in between my last monthly class and my pre options appointment. It was crazy because the sleep study Dr said I didn't need cpap just an oral appliance but the bariatric surgeon insisted. Not sue why I had to have the study... I hate the cpap. It wakes me up constantly with this loud farty noise and thus far I have not woken up feeling at all "well rested and refreshed". The darn thing reports back to headquarters so I must comply. I plan returning it as soon as I can.

Unjury is kosher.(dairy). Tastes great too. though I like the unflavored best. Ten grams of protein a scoop. I mix 4 scoops into a quart of yogurt or cottage so it's ready to go!

When will I know my surgery date?
Aggiemae replied to teedsg's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
If you followed all their requirements, your insurance will approve your surgery. -
When will I know my surgery date?
Aggiemae replied to teedsg's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I finished The last of the 6 monthly classes required by my insurance on October 4. Had my sleep study a week later and my pre open visit on October 20th. I was given preoperative diet instructions and left the office thinking my surgery would be in two weeks.... On October 21st I got the call to be at the hospital at 6 am on October 25th!!!! I barely had time to order a few weeks supply of unjury Protein powder. The six months of pre surgery requirements dragged on a bit but it seems like things move very fast after insurance gives the OK. -
Clothing - what to do
Aggiemae replied to Tami_Lynn's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have Lots of cloths. Way more than any one person needs. And in a wide oray of sizes too. Right before I had surgery (just 10 days ago!) I emptied the closet and during mms ped out the storage boxes and after a merciless purge organized them by size and put the ones that fit in the closet and packed the rest by size and season then put them in labeled boxes. My plan is to consign/sell/toss everything as soon as it outgrows me. I gave several bags to "dress for success" it's tax deductable and have over already made $400. on sales and consignment, though half of that was just for a few purses. Getting everything ready for resale was lots of work. I think that in the future I will avoid it by buying less though I am looking forward to buying non plus size lingerie. Lots and lots of it. -
How much protein do you get in a day?
Aggiemae replied to cuteNATL's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Nutritionist recommended 90 gr8. I am 10 days post open and managed this since the 4th post opinion day mainly because of unflavored Unjury. -
