So stranded but...My husband has been "eating for two" since my surgery three weeks ago. He goes up and down about 20 pounds since forever (we got married back when dinosaurs ruled the earth) and is about 30 pounds over ideal weight, but at 6'4" that's not much extra weight. Still it's disturbing and he his snoring so loud I can hear him with earplugs jammed so far in my ears they touch my brain so I have been sleeping in the guest room. On Thursday we went to a show and ate at a or cart lot (its a "thing" in Portland). I had a cup of hot mint tea and got a Sharma appetizer plate and ate 10 cc of chicken, 1/2 of a stuffed grape leaf and 5cc of cucumber salad. He ate the rest and a lamb gyro pluses a large routine (french fires with slaughter and pepper jelly sauce) and two pieces of baklava and two cans of soda. This weekend he ate most of a 3 pound pack of bacon and th madhouse a meal service (Green Chef) last night he added two full chicken breasts to the pre proportioned diner for four, though there are only three of us and I my serving is four meals for me. I want to think I am just paying attention to food but one of our friends, who didn't notice how little I ate made a joke about how much my husband ate. It's only been three weeks since my surgery and my husband did lose his eating buddy but I am worried. And yes, this is a rant but I would appreciate any insight..

I made a similar mistake by stating the (apparently controversial) opinion that being on Medicare and getting "fast tracked" might not be as good as it seems and that pre operative education improves outcomes. There seem to be lots of people here who believe that everything they do BEFORE MAJOR SURGERY is a waste of there valuable time. Despite very likely being obesee for years they want the surgery that's going to magically change their lives forever and they want it NOW. Those evil insurance companies are just making them "jump through hoops". I can't imagine doing this without a psychologist, nutritionist and physical therapist. I feel like the six months of pre op appointments and classes prepared me in a way that that the pre surgery class given to OHP (Medicare) recipients never could have.

So.. "Rants and raves".. THIS is were the sane post WLS people hang out!

Few studies yet but plenty of raw data showing that patients who get pre op education are half as likely to regain more than half their weight loss at five years. I can't believe that Medicare pays for WLS but not for comprehensive pre op preparation. Oh, and while I'm here I was wondering when you people started to drink beer again. I'm 3 weeks out and could really go for a cold one...

I went back to work today and after 3 weeks already down a dress size. I don't tell people my personal business. If anyone who isn't a close friend or trusted family member is rude enough to ask I tell them I'm on a strict medically supervised diet. Which is far mortgage that they need to know. -
When to start logging food?
Aggiemae replied to StephanieS0208's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I started 6 months before surgery. It's very helpful post op. I write my meal plan on the left page and what I actual eat and drink on right side page. Also log vitamins. I add up the protein and water in the evening. Some days are better than others but I have managed 90 grams of protein on all but three days in the past two weeks. -
Sleep Apnea & Anasthesia
Aggiemae replied to icyblufrz88's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
My program also require a sleep study though I am not sure why since I was on the boarder and the sleep Dr suggest a mouth appliance but the surgeon insisted on the CPAP as it seems I just could have skipped the expense of the sleep study. I do use my CPAP Mmost night and I am having the most amazing dreams. -
The program a UWM is excellent. I know it's hard to wait six months for surgery and it's great to see you made good use of all the services offered. I wanted to let you know that all of what some people here call "jumping through hoops" Will double your chance of long term success. Before pre op education programs almost 80% of bariatric surgery patient regained at least half their weight. From this sight come to understand that people an public assistance and medicade don't get much pre op education and get "fast tracked" but it turns out that's because it just osts to much! It's sad really.

Try a compression top. I got a cheap tank with a built in bra a target. It really helped me.

You've lost your self almost twice. Strong work. -
The recovery from the swelling varies from person to person. My surgery was 10/25 and I am mostly on puree but can do mushy if I chew it to puree. I am full on 3 oz.And I am still getting 3/4 of my Protein from protein powder. I like the unjury unflavored mostly I just blend it 1% milk but I also blend it into cottage cheese, you're and no added sugar pudding. I have a hard time with smells and the powder really grossed me out for a while so I mixed the powder right into the yogurt and cottage cheese so it's ready to eat when I want it. I add 2 scoops (42gr) per large tub. The smell doesn't bother me now, now it's just bacon, car exhaust, wet dogs, teen bys laundry...

Bathrobe. You'll enjoy walking more if your not trying to cover your butt in a hospital gown.

Aggiemae replied to iam_yamii's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Actually, my reply was not at all rude. Maybe you need to go READ IT. HOWEVER, Your first one was judgmental and this one, DIRECTED TOWARDS ME, was rude. -

Not as excited as I think I should be?
Aggiemae replied to Christina.Rose's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Several people in my pre op group wanted to surgery off till after the holidays and two actually did even though in one case her insurance was changing on 1/17. My nutritionist called this "an extended last supper". Eating or weight loss? Decide what's most important to YOU and do it. Can you make some counseling apps to discuss your worries. BTW, You do know that a few weeks after surgery you will be eating again? The thing is you probably won't want too. -

Lol, I was waiting for the one. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App U always have to have this one. I promise you to GOD I didn't get fat from eating chips but from over eating chips. I will not deprive myself a snack sometimes as long as my sleeve likes it. Omg. Ppl kill me…… so what she askes about chips. Who are u to judge.. WowwSent from my SM-G928T using the BariatricPal App She asked about chips 3 weeks post op when most people are still struggling to fit in all the Protein. No one who wants to succeed should be eating empty carb calories at 3 weeks post surgery. Seems to me that you're sort of judgmental yourself and after just three posts. Did you consider that the poster was trying to HELP? Most of us are here to be supportive and helpful. -
I played a supply of "genie" bras. I went to the site to buy shape ware for mutt but tons of stuff was on sale. They don't have hooks but I got the ones with zippers. The cups are soft but the bra doesn't give me that "uniboob" look you get with some sports bras. The br also have removable "modesty" pads so your nipples don't show. I can't say enough about the Genie compression leggings. They push and squeeze in e right places but don't flatten out my butt at all. https://www.geniebra.com/slim-and-tone-leggings-details

That moment when you realize the sleeve is saving you from yourself
Aggiemae replied to The New Kel's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I spent the first week wondering what I had done to myself...now, 21 days later I can't believe I waited till I was in my 60's. Today on the way home from work I was stuck in traffic and so thirsty so I pulled into dairy queen to get a small diet soda, I was actually ordering it before I remembered about the carbonation. I got an unsweetened ice tea instead. First time ever going to a drive thru and spending ZERO CALORIES! -
Average calories after surgery?
Aggiemae replied to shelly.s's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
There are three calories in a gram of Protein or carbs though most protein food also contain fat. My diet recommendation is 2:1ratio between protein and carbs but protein FIRST at solid meals at this point I have a mushy dinner of "regular " food. Last night I put 4oz of chicken, an oz of mashed potatoes (a treat!) and an oz of broccoli all diced fine on my plate. About 12 grams protein. I at a little over half, it took 20 mins . And honestly it was a bit to much. I try to have 90 grams of protein per day. I fell short by 30 grams yesterday so had more powdered protein today to reach my goal, substituted 8oz 1% milk with a scoop of unflavored Protein powder (29 grams of protein) for my planned solid food dinner. -
Ok guys, as long as your pee is yellow or clear and doesn't stink (a sign it's concentrated and dehydrated) peeing 3-4 times a day is normal. Not getting up in the middle of the night to pee is also normal.

Stop when full, or push on to get required protein in - confused

3 Weeks Post Op - Are chips and Guacamole allowed?
Aggiemae replied to iam_yamii's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Chips are empty calories. The thing that makes people fat in the first place. Avocados are a high fat food too BUT also nutritious. Have your guacamole with tuna instead of chips, your new body will thank you. -
Post op diet struggles- Boston MA
Aggiemae replied to fuzzyhorse's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Schedule an appointment with a counselor that specializes in eating issues. If you don't know of one a nutritionist is a good place to ask. You can probably call any nutritionist and ask . Make sure you know your insurance company coverage and how many visits they will cover before you go. My plan limits me to 14 visits a year so I go once a month and have two sparse for emergencies. Another alternative is Overeaters Anonymous though you might have to go to a few meeting and different locations to find a group you like. I met a woman at OA that literally changed my life. -
21 days here. I only weigh once a week. It would be impossible for someone who weighs as much as I do NOT to lose FAT on under 700 calories a day no matter what the scale says. I'm not hungry but today was my first day back at work so I did want to stuff my face a few times. We had a mortality and morbidity conference my first day back. Catered, which in this case was ironic, since the pt was over 600 pounds. I had 1/4 cup unshelled pistachios (took forever to chew to mush) and a bottle of diet snapple but there was Danish..poppyseed AND cheese.... Home now and back to for ing myself to suck down my current favorite th I g... 8oz of 1% milk with a scoop of unflavored Protein powder. So... the huge hunger I felt probably conditioning. I don't like not getting what I want the second I want it...OH DEAR! That might be why I am fat.
