  1. Because it's major surgery. A contest seems frivolous. Maybe even reckless. I will think about it and post something well thought out later. You can start a thread titled " WLS contest?" If you saddleback.
  2. You swallow air while you eat, it's normal but you don't have space for it now. Make sure you sit up straight and straighten your neck to let the air bubble up. Contracting my diaphragm a few times helps me. I eat with a tiny spoon which I thought would help but actually made it worse. the little spoon does slow me down and I would recommend using one. I got a bag of 24 (silver looking plastic) at the Dollar Store.

    Protein bars

Protein bars are not on my list so I called the NUT and asked. They are ok once you get to normal solid food but not recommended. The preferred snack bar are "Kind" bars. the NUT does lean towards food that is balanced between carbs and protein. But that's for me and my nutritional and medical needs.

    New to posting :)

GOOD LUCK! This question gets asked just about every day so I thought I would post y experience. Consider getting a compression tank top to have on hand. I had lots of pain getting in and out of bed and had to sleep on my back until I started wearing one. It really help me with incision pain. They sell them at Target up to 2x and Lane Bryant (underwire, expensive) I LOVE SHAPE WEAR AND ALREADY HAD ONE. "Genie Bra" is My favorite, affordable AND they are having a sale. You can but any six items for $60.00. The high waisted leggings are really nice, push in the hips and gut but don't flatten my butt.
  5. Um...Are you SURE you want to win major surgery in a contest?
  6. I was on long acting oxycodone during my pre op phase and was told by the WLS NP that I needed to be completely off it before the surgery. I reduced my dosage from 30 mg 2X day to 10mg 2X day and supplementing with short acting. I was planning on going to short acting dilaudid right before surgery. When I saw the surgeon for the pre op she told me there was no medical reason to stop taking the extended release. Apparently the NP I saw has issues with narcotic pain meds... A topic for another day: why are medical providers with personal agendas allowed to present their OPINIONS as FACTS? Interestingly, the change in diet reduced my cronic inflammation to the point where I was almost completely off pain medication too weeks post op! Back on pain meds now because of inflamed triennial nerves (very painful!) but hoping it's going to be very short term. Got the morphine pump all worked out today. I just reread this, and good thing as the "auto correct" changed "narcotic PAIN meds" to "narcotic PARTY meds and " cronic inflammation" to "comic inflation"!
  7. You shouldn't just suddenly stop taking this medication. Call your Dr and get something for anxiety also am pretty sure you can open the capsules and mix then with liquids so ask about that too. As far I'm concerned it would be appropriate for you to go the urgent or emergency dept to be seen for this. Where did you have your surgery? This should have been addressed pre op.
  8. It only takes a 10% weight lose to jump start ovulation so unless you want a baby get on reliable birth control. I got pregnant when I was 46 (yes FOURTY-SIX ) after losing 80 pounds. My doctor looked at me like I was crazy when I asked for a pregnancy test... I just telling you to be careful! As for your boyfriend... he doesn't like condoms getting in the way of his pleasure? Ask him if he'd prefer a crying infant?
  9. I'm on hugh dose of prednisone and I've fluids and have gained 11 POUNDS since Wednesday!!! I on ly weight once a week at home but I am the hospital I know I am consuming less than 800 calories a day and that I must still be losing FAT but it is still frustrating.
  10. Funny!!! Come visit my Bell's palsy thread, I'm in hospital and though it's nice to have help with this insane regiment of medications, solid food, liquids, Proteins, Vitamins (my husband smuggled them in!) and facial exercises. I am getting bored. The morphine pump is working.

    Fatty Liver

The pre op diet shrinks your organs and should reduce some of the surgical risks caused by a fatty liver.

    I'm too Fat

What a discouraging thing. I had an MRI today. The weight limit for the machine was 250, (I just made it) though the hospital (a diabetes and weight loss center of the excellence) has one for pts up to 600 pounds. The radiologist was very kind in how she phrased the question. Did your hey do your extras standing?

    Bells Palsy

Not bell's palsy. Bacterial infection. On Tuesday morning it was just cranial nerve 7, leaving the left side of my face droopy and paralyzed. By yesterday the tigeminal nerves also became inflamed which is extremely painful and I was told that my Lymes titre was positive. I'm in the hospital on antibiotics and 100 mg of prednisone a day. I am having a hard time swallowing but hanging in there. Hopefully the prednisone will start working and I'll fell well enough to get dis charged in a few days. his has absolutely nothing to to with the sleeve surgery I had on 10/25 just a bummer.
  14. Call your surgeon first thing in the morning. If you have a thermometer, take your temp before calling since she she will probably want to know if you a r running a temp.

    Becoming Concerned

It takes about 2,800 calories the maintain 275 pounds. You are currently eating maybe 500-800 calories. No matter what the scale says you are losing FAT. I find that I lose more weight if I drink more clear no calorie fluids.

    Hot Sauce

I added hot cause to my soup in the hospital !
  17. RKI mom, not one person said that revision of a malfunctioning lap band was not appropriate. The thing is that forum gets comment from people who gained all their weight back and Plame the surgery just about every day. Not all of them had lap bands or surgical complications. That was what Babs was asking about. I really try to be helpful to my fellow WLS travelers but after being here just a few weeks I already mostly just ignore questions like "can I eat sausage 3 days post op?" but I do wonder about the competency (and integrity) of the surgeon that did not educate this person properly. I am concluding that many of these surgeons view this as cosmetic surgery. That they don't care much about the outcomes as long as they get paid. Again, sorry you felt the need to defend yourself. I certainly did not intend that with my comment.

    Not full

You don't feel full on liquids because they pass right to your bowels where they digest. You just had MAJOR SURGERY your stomach needs to be empty until the incision heals and the swelling goes down that's why you are on liquids and puree. Didn't any of you asking this get this information in your pre op classes or in your post op instructions?
  19. Yes She do, pre operative education and counseling is an important part of post operative success. http://journals.lww.com/orthopaedicnursing/Abstract/2011/11000/Effects_of_Preoperative_Education_on_Patient.12.aspx https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/22124192 http://www.nursinglibrary.org/vhl/handle/10755/154102?mode=full

Let's all brush up on our critical thinking skills!

How do I put a link to this thread on another thread? I see a sh#t storm brewing on "are revisions really necessary" all I can say is that bans has passed off someone has a giant ax to grind and she's trying to grind it an emery board.
  21. Why did you have surgery BEFORE you knew the answers to those questions? WLS is not magic.
  22. Revisions are only necessary if the surgery fails, which does happen with the lap band but how can removing most or all of your stomach "fail"??? Some people like to believe that if they gained back all their weight the surgery "didn't work" for them or it "failed" .Making bad choices caused the weight gain. Why they believe that ANOTHER surgery is the (magical) solution is beyond me. And expecting insurance to pay twice? Please. If the surgery they already had still works (it probably does) the patient needs to TAKE RESPONSIBILITY and do their part. The thing about this that is craziest is how often people post that there new surgeon is trying to get them approved. This seems to validate the belief that the previous surgery was somehow flawed. Sure the surgeons staff is trying to get as many pt as possible approved. That's how they make their $$$. I think a competent surgeon would have the integrity to say no.

    Wls disqualified

One of the reasons I waited until after I did my 25 years in public health for full retirement benefits before having WLS. total BS to be excluded after taking a step that did nothing but improve our long term health. Probably that a national political movement to change these policies. We could begin by lobbing politicians who have had WLS...

    Diarrhea 9days post op

I would be thrilled to have diarrhea.. I take a stool softener every day and I've only pooped twice since 10/25! Dr says it's normal with the decrease volume. Down from 3,000 calories a day to about 700. Sip Water all day to replenish Fluid and add some bulk (fiber) to your diet. As long as you aren't shaky or sweaty it is just as normal as not pooping.

    Gum?

Chewing stimulates the stomach to make digestive acid, when you chew gum you don't swallow food. BTW, consider using the "search" feature before you ask a question. Many veterans, the BEST source of accurate information, don't even read newbie questions because they get sick of answering the same question every day.
