5-7 minutes between bites? Is it true?
Aggiemae replied to macon_me's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
5 minutes between bites? It would take me over an hour to eat 3-4 oz! I eat solid 3-4 oz food meals in 15-20 minutes. A little slower with chicken or fish a little faster with cottage cheese or Soup. -
After three of my four joint replacements I had the catheter in for 24-36 hours. My catheter was taken out immediately after my sleeve surgery. I got up to use the toilet about 15 minutes after I woke up from anesthesia. Ask your surgeon what he/she usually does.

Your skin looks well toned and healthy. And your neck and face are much slimmer. Good work! -
Are revisions REALLY necessary?
Aggiemae replied to Babbs's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
If you read the posts you will see that no one has issues with medically necessary revisions but at least a few times a week some one starts a thread basically saying that they successfully lost weight but regained it and are angry that their insurance wouldn't pay for another surgery. A few of them have had lap band revised to sleeve, not because of a mechanical problem, but because they regained the weight and call it a surgery "failure" (the i r words not mine) and are now seeking an RNY. The sleeve doesn't "break" and the stomach capacity can be evaluated. If the sleeve works why risk another major surgery? My concern is that for these people the underlying food issues have clearly not been resolved. To my way of thinking performing another surgery is unethical. I myself was sleeved on 10/25 and though I have never had GERD or any digest problems before but I now have severe GERD I sometimes vomit up even with the Protein shakes. It might improve. I'm hoping it does. Of course, one would want to live with this for the rest of their lives. No one should have to. I hope this clarifies the reason the thread was started. God luck with -
Denied again and surgeon's office is silent
Aggiemae replied to IMissVegas's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My insurance company allows one bariatric surgery per lifetime. There is an exception for mechanical malfunctions with the band. They test the band and if it is functional they will not replace it. -
Don't worry your sleeve won't stretch but you will gain weight if you drink with your meals because the fluid moves the food down into you intestines and makes room for more food. Gained caused by a steady diet of cheese cake, pizza and natchos goes without saying!

Working on Willpower
Aggiemae replied to Treadmillwalker's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I have been really hungry today. I'm in the hospital and not sure if it's because of the 100 mg of prednisone, or because I am back on high Protein liquids because I can't swallow or maybe I'm just bored. Of course I can't go off and eat in the hospital so I just had a disolvable Calcium tablet as a snack. I'm just four weeks post sleeve and I think that people who say that WLS is the "easy way out" are clueless. -
I have eaten then in the past and they are ok but if it's just bulk then I'm not sure that they are useful with WLS. They are low carb but do they have any nutritional value? Protein? I make the zucchini noodles or spaghetti squash. Everyone likes them.

I could have eggs right way. NUT said not to hard scramble them because they could get stuck. I usually have mine touched with the ounce of what ever is left from my dinner .

12 week victories!

OMG! Same story with our house. They overpaid during the bubble but it didn't matter because they lived here for two years and never made a single payment! BTW that butt ugly door cost over 400.00. We got a replacement door this summer but my husband stubbornly insists that there is nothing wrong with it and won't change it. I'm going to get it changed when we get the house painter in May. It's currently the color of breast feed baby poop... was dark grey before it was "flipped", will be dark grey again soon. -

Aggiemae replied to Babbs's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Interesting. So the issue is not the quality of the food, it's not being able to tolerate the density and texture of the "allowed" foods. I couldn't tolerate that for long either. Thanks Babbs. -
Undecided on what to do
Aggiemae replied to bigsexy28sc's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
The only thing I regret is not doing it sooner. As for feeling like a "punk"? Thrust me when I say this is NOT the easy way to lose weight. After having major surgery you will have to follow a very restrictive diet plan that accounts for every bite of food and every sip of Fluid you consume till you lose the weight and then comes the hard part, you have to have the discipline to keep that weight off for the rest of your life. On the plus side you get to see your kids grow up and probably (at least) a thousand other fantastic things... Like not being stared at in the mall, not needing a seat belt extender, not being afraid a chair will break under your weight, going on the rides at Disneyland.... -
Satisfying drinks?
Aggiemae replied to CraftyGirl25's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just slice up lemons, limes, cucumbers sometimes fresh pineapple and make infused water. I make 64 oz every evening for the next day. Cucumber (mash it up a bit), mint and lemon is my current favorite. Pomegranate is pretty good (you do have to crush the seeds) -
Wow! Strong work!!!! Your profile says you've lost 10 pounds.. maybe you can update it?

I took 3 weeks off but could have gone back to work in two. It really depends on how strenuous your job is.

How long before stomach pain goes away?
Aggiemae replied to show1980's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Try a tight shapeware tank top to help tuck things in a bit. It helped me immediately after putting it on. -
No one is available at your surgeons office? That's crazy. Call them first thing tomorrow. Did you have a swallow test to make sure there were no Lee's before you left the hospital? I had a hard very time swallowing cold foods the first week. My surgeon suggest eating g everything room temperature for a few days. At first I didn't want hot food at all so I don't know if it would have felt like it was stuck. Can you have yogurt? It's easy to digest. Get one with live cultures (robotics) I try to include some fat in my diet so I use 2%. Well cooked preed carrots, cauliflower and butternut squash are low in calories andeasy to swallow. My favorite is carrot coconut curry Soup. Individual serving: 2 oz cooked carrots, a spoon of dehydrated veggie mix from the grocery store bulk bins (soaked in warm Water 1TBS of coconut milk, some yellow curry and pepper flakes pureed together with enough chicken broth to make soup (make thicker for puree later). To get in enough Protein right before eating I mix 1/2 scoop of unflavored Protein powder with about 2 oz warm cashew milk and slowly stir it into the already heated soup. This adds 10-11 grams per serving. I make big batches of this and carrots mushroom and freeze 4-5 oz servings into small mason jars. Note: the soup can't be too hot or the protein will clump

Successful but not success
Aggiemae replied to ryan_86's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Ryan, you are a very wise man. The surgery is a tool it isn't magic. Some people never seem to figure this out. Enjoy your journey. -
EMDR for carbs would be AWESOME!

I am not a big fan of support groups myself. OA is the exception because the meetings are orderly and people are kind to each other. Only the newbies interrupt and explain why YOU are doing it "wronge". I imagine it would be hard to track in a group if you needs a sign interpreter. They do have on line meetings.

Left the hospital 14 pounds higher
Aggiemae replied to jerseygirl10's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That's were they pulled out your stomach. Mine hurt so much I couldn't roll over or sit up in bed! I used a tight shaper tank top to put pressure on my abdomen and it helped immediately. I wore it for a little over a week. Mine was from "GENIE" I already had it. Spanks makes them and they sell larger sizes at lane Bryant. If you still have the drain just tuck it under the tank top. -
Ok, first off I'm a mother of five an auntie to 6 and a granny to 2 . I would never never never talk to any of then this way. I could rant for two pages but let's cut to the chase... You are FINE. Your family however sis lacking and compassion and kindness. And I might add has some serious issues with boundaries issues as well. Did I mention that I would never ever talk like this to someone who is so desperate to lose weight that they are having major surgery? It's your journey. Maybe dumping the negativity should go hand in hand with losing the weight.
