5.9? I don't know how I spaced the parathyroid surgery! Watch your carbs and see what the next A1C is. Sorry if I alarmed you. I am not diabetic but just had to be on high dose steroids for 2 weeks and my blood sugars where over 300 and I was on insulin. Been off prednisone for three days and my blood sugar has been 109 every time I checked it today.

My husband has been a raving lunatic and pretty much useless since I had my surgery. I think he is having a hard time wrapping his brain around it. There are lots of people here who will help you. Use the search feature for threads about needing or getting support. Also make friends with people here you age? Or maybe close starting weight or surgery date? He is very emotionally supportive but not very helpful, though he does shop and cook for himself and our teen aged son. I only shop for myself. Makes it easier. I buy about the same thing every week: Large tub of of 2% milk cottage cheese Large tub of Greek yogurt 2 cans of albacore tuna in oil 2 1/2 gallon containers of unsweetened cashier milk extra fruit as needed (we have kale in out garden year round and store apples, pears and kiwi from are garden) I also use: 1 medium sized yam About a pound of assorted fruit Cucumber, carrots and 1/2 pound of kale for juicing 1/2 of a chicken ( I pouch it in chicken broth because it needs to be moist so it doesn't get stuck 1 tub of unjury unflavored Protein (I buy it on the internet) To prep meals: I divide the chicken into 6 portions (our chickens are small) 1dump a cup of yogurt into the bullet (you can use a blender) and add a scoop of protein powder, some Stevie and vanilla blend it then fold it back into the rest of the younger in the tub. I usually have 4 oz so that's 8 servings. I mix 2 scoops of just protein powder into the cottage cheese same way. I like it lumpy but if you like it smooth you can blend the whole tub. I make tuna salad no celery because it does go down well. But I do use pickles and onions and some mayo. 2 cans make 4 serving If you don't have a juicer, I do realize that most people don't you can buy fresh pressed juice the small bottles will make 3 servings of Protein shake. Logos the "super foods" versions as they have vegetables mixed with the fruit so are lower in sugar and carbs Sometimes I make the shakes with unsweetened cashew milk because it only has 25 calories (and very low carb or no carb) for 8 oz I bake a yam and cook vegetables for three or four meals (about 11/2 cups. So for one meal a day I might have 1 oz of yam 1 oz of vegetables and 3 oz of meat. I do add a bit of butter to my veggies. It's good to get some fat every day. I like 1/4 of an avocado.i add it to my shake or have it with my tuna salad.

The point I was trying to make was that for about half the cost you could grill a chicken breast and microwave a bag birds eye "steamer" veggies and get three meals with twice the Protein and half the salt of a "healthy" frozen dinner. We eat organic unprocessed food. We raise our own chickens and beef and grow about 75 % of our fruits and vegetables. I love chocolate and coffee. Oh and I grind all our flour for Pasta and bread. Right now I am eating 80 gr of protein, mostly fish and chicken, since I am just 5 weeks post op. Plus 20 grams of carbs, mostly juiced fruit and vegetables that I make my Protein shakes with. Today I had: 4oz of protein fortified cottage cheese (12 gr protein) Nuts with chicken cheese cubes (27 gr protein) 2 protein shakes: 1scoop unflavored Protein powder, 1 cup ice 4 oz of apple/pear/kiwi/kale juice and a dash of stevia 21 gr protein and 8 gr carbs each Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

An A1C doesn't measure your blood sugar but if a non diabetic ate a pound of sugar there blood sugar would still be normal. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Your A1C is an indicator of your average blood sugar in the past 90 days. I think the value is supposed to be under 5.9. It's not a test usually done for non diabetics. Did you have gestural diabetes? Because of you low weight you should consider seeing a specialist and start treatment. I'm a high risk medical case manager and it's been my experience that far too many drs just don't want to deal with new diabetics and tend to minimize it. But the best thing you can do for yourself is to be proactive. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Sigh... it's when you stick a pencil under you boob to test if it falls down or stays under the flab. You know, THE pencil test! Ask your wife. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Don't you have a regular Dr that you see? Make an appointment with him/ her asap.

I have lost around 100 pounds 7 times in the past 20 years and the only place I have lose skin is on my thoughts and that's been for a few years. And at age 64 my boobs still pass the "pencil test".

Why do doctor persist in calling it "pre diabetes"? You are either diabetic or your not. If your fasting blood sugar is over 126 and you have diabetes. If you ever have non fasting blood sugars over 200 (some say 149) you are diabetic. http://www.joslin.org/info/what_is_pre_diabetes.html

They have enough food in them for two or three meals. Few have enough Protein and they are loaded with salt and preservatives. http://www.thedailymeal.com/15-healthiest-frozen-dinners http://www.webmd.com/food-recipes/features/best-frozen-dinners#1 Consider buying frozen veggie blends and cooking up a bag, even with added salt and butter you'd be ahead calorie and nutrition wises. It's probably time to start working on your food choices anyway.

I tried to find that video but couldn't. Thanks for posting it! Could it be possible that people are getting WLS without getting this critical information? -
Water and gastric sleeve
Aggiemae replied to sanaa.a's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Seriously? Because if you drink after you eat you will flush the food into your intestines and make room in your stomach for more food. This will eventually lead to regaining the weight you worked so hard to lose. -
Some people have lots off lose skin some have non. Depends on age, genetics, nutrition, hydration... Doctors usually say it doesn't help but it can't hurt so make sure you take vit c and bit e supplements, drink plenty of Water and use a high quality moisturizer.

You can't smoke after WLS. It's generally one of the prerequisites.

No bubble baths or hot tubs for 4 weeks.

Anyone have gastric sleeve and then find out you were diagnosed with Lyme disease?
Aggiemae replied to dr3am3rstarz's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I lyme's in 1986 but because I live on the west last I s sick for months before it was finally DXed. I was treated and recovered and never had any problems till a few weeks ago when I woke up with facial paralysis. It had nothing to do with the WLS I had on 10/23. About 12 years ago I considered the lap band but there were concerns that my immune system would react to a foreigner body. This was not a consideration of concern with the sleeve. The post surgery high Protein diet improved my underlying autoimmune disorder. I am off narcotic pain medication for the first time in about 12 years. I did have to make some dietary adjustments, mainly adding good fats which might slow weight lose, but I don't think it has so far. PLEASE do make sure your surgeon is aware of your full medical history before you have surgery. -
I usually only look at "new content". It just showed up...Honest! I didn't go looking for it. Weird.

Are revisions REALLY necessary?
Aggiemae replied to Babbs's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Um.. One M&M for a surgery done in Mexico isn't really what I think most people here are talking about. You say we have differing ideas about what is unethical, and we clearly do... I am not a surgeon, nor do I purport to know all the risks and benefits, but I do believe they are highly individualized and best left to those educated on the procedure. There will always be outliers. There will always be truly unethical practices. But it sounds like there is a very black and white line of thinking here and I don't want to make people who have had revisions feel like they need to hide it or that they have done something wrong. I know 2 people who have had successful revisions. One of them done by my surgeon. She is amazing (my surgeon)... I work with her. She's done so many of these procedures she has it down to a science. I take care of her patients and chose her for her lack of complications and experience. She is a lifesaver to many and anything but unethical. Wow, you seem to be reading a lot into these posts and being pretty judgmental ((and black and white) yourself... Google a few "medical tourism" WLS practices and a email/text them that you are seeking a revision. See how through of a history they take before taking your credit card number and scheduling you. BTW,where did I say that the surgery was done in Mexico? Um...nowhere. -
I've one thing to say...

Congratulations Lisa! -
Ask these questions at your class. Per my post op instructions, I couldn't lift anything over 20 pounds for four weeks post op. The pain is far less than a c section, an abdominal binder/ compression top helped me a great deal and the recovery is much faster.

Water and gastric sleeve
Aggiemae replied to sanaa.a's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Forever. If you drink with your food the Fluid pushed the food thru your sleeve. Increasing your capacity will increase your calorie intake and you will start gaining weight. I have to ask. Where did you have your surgery? Didn't your surgeon or a nutritionist explain this to you before surgery? -
The Finish Line is in Sight!
Aggiemae replied to janedoe92's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
My insurance turn around was 24 hours and surgery was a week later. Call your Dr and let him her know that you are willing to come in if someone getsssick or cancels. Don't eat after 6 m, in case surgery scheduling calls. I got the call at 8pm to be at the hospital at 6am... You might be on you way before the new year! Order your Vitamins, Protein and small storage containers now. Also, i got a package of tiny plastic spoons at the dollar store. I keep some in my purse and my desk at work and they really slow down my eating! !!!! Best wishes!!!
