Why is it that there is always one person who reads things into the original post that aren't there and then viciously slams the poster whit their own self righteous rant? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Any time before you are at goal weight is too soon... Pasta and rice and most cereals are EMPTY calories. I assume you had MAJOR surgery cause you wanted to lose weight and get healthy? If you want that to happen and keep happening you need to concentrate on eating/drinking Protein and then add nutritious food like vegetable and fruits and healthy fats to your meals. If you are having behavior problems like impulse control find a therapist who specialize in eating disorders or join OA and go to meetings regularly. Your post op diet is NOT suggestion it's a PERSCRIPTION.

Daily Sugar/Carb Intake
Aggiemae replied to mylastchance21's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have 80-85 grams of Protein a day and keep my carbs between 20-25 grams. Usually on the lower side. The only sugar is from raw fruit juice. I use 4oz (plus a cup of ice and a scoop of unflavored protein) in my daily shake. I use 2% yogurt and cottage cheese and if I drink milk it's 1%. I eat 1/4 of an avocado a few times a week and use a splash of heavy cream in my morning cup of tea and a bit of butter on my veggies, so I guess don't restrict fat as much as some people do but most days I am around 600-700 calories. -
Unflavored Protein question
Aggiemae replied to Christina.Rose's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I like the Unjury products, especially the unflavored protein powder and the chicken soup. It's cheapest to buy it in the canisters instead of the individual packets. -

You don't have to drink skim milk and your kids don't need full fat milk. Compromise with 2% or switch to unsweetened cashew or almond milk. My family loves it and its only 25 calories for 8oz? My plan doesn't restrict fat much. I have 80 grams of Protein but only 20-25 grams of carbs. I didn'toc'mon much the first 4 weeks. And when I did I made Pasta, sauce and a pre made salad kit. Now i make normal meals. And weigh measure out my portion. Basically 3 oz of protein, veggies and occasionally a few bites of potatos or yams. I work more than full time so we do get those pre boxed meals (green chief or hello fresh) three meals for four all the (high quality) ingredients for each meal except oil salt and pepper and instructions. If you figure that you won't be throwing away spoiled food and best of all you don't need to do much tasting. They have at least 6-8 meal choices every week. I have a code for 40.00 off your first shipment, PM me if you want to try it. -

If I have to cook I make Pasta and sauce since I can't eat empty calories. I imagine that after a few days of spaghetti your husband might be more incline you cook for himself and his children. As for the healthy food "bandwagon" if they expect you to serve them they need to RESPECT the time and effort you put into making their meals and part of showing that respect is eating what you made. And yes, I would slap the crap out of my husband if his behavior made me cry. -
You plan allows rice and pasta?

It only took me a few weeks to mostly use the unflavored protein powder. I do have a shake made with 4oz of raw juice a scoop unflavored protein powder, a cup of ice and a dash of stevia.

watching a video of the surgery should be required!
Aggiemae replied to kmorri's topic in Rants & Raves
Watching the surgery video might cut it down on the number of people who post here everyday asking if they can eat sausage, bacon, steak, nachos or a full thanksgiving dinner three days post op. Though my current favourite question is...how long will I have to wait 30 minutes after eating to drink?.. -
Kaiser California covers weight loss surgery?
Aggiemae replied to SweetyShetty1988's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Kaiser offers WLS to people who are paying premiums for plans that cover it. However not all plans do. It depends on what plan your employer selected. If your current plan doesn't cover WLS you can discuss it with your employer and if they are willing to pay the cost he/she can select a plan that does. -
Flavorless Protein powder
Aggiemae replied to Christina.Rose's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I use the unjury unflavored Protein. I add it to yogurt, cottage cheese, Soup (not too hot), oatmeal etc. to boost the protein. As log as you dont over do it it doesn't add any flavor or change the food or drinks texture. 1scoop in 8 oz of 1% milk (100 calories, 19 grams carbs) =29 grams protein 1scoop in 8 oz of cashew milk (only 25 calories, 0 carbs)= 21 grams protein 2 scoops in a large tub of cottage boosts the protein from 15grams per 4 oz to 20 gr I use low fat Greek yogurt and only add 1scoop of Protein powder to a 32 oz tub of yogurt because it seems to thicken it but you could probably add 2 scoops to regular yogurt and not notice any change in flavor or texture. 1/2 scoop into 4-6 oz of soup. You need to mix the powwwith WARM broth, Water or milk and stir it into the hot soup. The soup shouldn't be hotter than 150 degrees. I use a thermometer (Unjury sells them) as the powder clumps up if it gets too hot. The thermometer is a good thing to have if you eat lots of soup. There are other brands of unflavored protein powder. I but the UNJURY in the canisters as the individual packets, though great to carry in your car/pouse/lunch box, are twice the cost. -
Kaiser Oregon - Not Covered?
Aggiemae replied to saoirse16's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Exactly. Talk to your employer about changing your benefit package. December usually when plan changes happen so get on it right away. Even if you paid the difference out of your own pocket it would likely cost less than self pay in Mexico and you would have the benefit of KP's pre and post op education programs and services. -

Dallas doctors indicted by Feds in massive Dallas hospital conspiracy.
Aggiemae replied to Buffy1's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
This is one of my concerns with the "self pay" route. I completely understand that some insurance plans don't cover WLS and there needs to be a self pay option. On the other hand I have seen people: who are 50-60 pounds over weight getting WLS. getting questionable "revisions". choosing self pay because their insurance denied them or required them to "jump through hoops" Seems like some minimal requirements, like maybe a referral from your primary care provider, Should be required for getting major surgery instead of a credit card with a high spending limit. There is a thread here started a few days ago by a woman who went to a surgeon for a pre op interview who was told she could have surgery the NEXT DAY if she had the funds. Another case of greed trumping ethics. -
Are revisions REALLY necessary?
Aggiemae replied to Babbs's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I read the posts about sleeve vs bypass for people with RA a few pages back and wanted to comment. I have non progressive autoimmune disorder and I test positive for RA have a few flairs a year with long emissions. My liver reached max tolerance for acetaminophen in 1993 and my kidne us actually failed from years of ibuprofen use. I had serious side effect from methotrexate and both biologics I tried. Because there weren't any better options I have been on narcotic pain medication for most of the past 12 years. And yes, prednisone is my best friend and my worse enemy. I have a gastric sleeve and am now just past 5 weeks post op. The pain was reduced within a week, though it took two more weeks to Tauber down from 20 mg of long-lasting oxytocin and 24-30 mg of dilaudid (4-12 mg every 4-6 hours) i have been completely off narcotic pain meds for over two weeks. I was aware that a bypass was more likely to improve my autoimmune disorders blut it was just too drastic of an alteration for me to wrap my mind around and my surgeon believed that the sleeve would give me some improvement. . In any case I think some of the improvement is because of the high Protein diet as my pain impoves when ever I up my protein and severely decrease carbs, but there is something more going on because I feel better every day. Sorry about the length. Hopefully this thread will survive the recent "kerfluffle". -
Water and gastric sleeve
Aggiemae replied to sanaa.a's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Seriously? Because if you drink after you eat you will flush the food into your intestines and make room in your stomach for more food. This will eventually lead to regaining the weight you worked so hard to lose. But what about BEFORE you eat? I think you are being purposely obtuse. Ask your doctor. -
When will I know my surgery date?
Aggiemae replied to teedsg's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Call and ask to be put on the wait list. People cancel surgery at the last minute or get a cold or haven't stopped smoking all the time. Remember to let the surgery scheduler know that you will stop eating a 6pm every evening in case you get called, Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Not if you are supposed to eat 20 gr of Protein to every 5 gr of carbs. Just because a label says a food is "high protein " doesn't mean it is. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Are revisions REALLY necessary?
Aggiemae replied to Babbs's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I wonder who would cry harder someone offended by my opinion that having a revision without addressing the underlying issue that caused the regaining of the weight or the 2 young children who don't have a father because he died of complications from a surgery that would not have had the desired outcome even if it hadn't killed him.
