    Kaiser Southern California

Hello, I had a gastric band placed in Mexico and had to have it removed. Since Kiaser has accepted me into the bariatrics program but it is a a long process. I don't want the gastric bypass when the sleave is a better option as far as as quality of life. Just adding my 2cents.
  5. Hello,

I am Post "Mid Band" and have suffered a odd complication since my Band removal surgery In 2006. I am a strong believer in WLS for those of us who have obviously tried other methods and failed time and time again. My goal is to reasearch and share my experience while striving to come to the best solution for me.

God Bless and Believe in yourself you are #1.

  6. Wasa, I am really greatfull to you for sharing your experience. Especially since I too am a former "Band" patient from Mexico. My Sergion really left me "messed up" and I don't know what to do or where to turn. I have had the pleasure of actually meeting your Dr. Dr.Aceves and he was was very patient and caring but I just don't know what to do. Also today I heard there was more unrest in TJ and that the cheif of police was fired by the Mayor. I have Kiaser ins through my job but they just want to do the bypass and the band. I really need some help if anyone cares, I cannot sit down without pain since my band removal surgery 12/06. I only weight at that time 138lbs at 5'10" and have had the pain sitting since. somebody please, please, help me..:frown::biggrin:
  7. Are there any major discomforts with the Sleeve that you have noticed or heard of?

Prayers needed for a fellow bandster

Dear Hootiebelle, I really comend you on being there for your fellow bandster Joan. I will say a prayer for her and wish her a speedy recovery. Please remind her that she will be O.K and things will get back to normal. I too lost my Band. And I know it can be hard. Just tell her to hang in there and things will work out. God Bless. Recov1

    Why Mexico ???

To Passave Veiwer. Why would you attack "Wassa" she offers very informitive pointers and information about a subject which is shrouded in "unknowns" for many of us who come on this WEB site for exactly that information. Information that we all can judge for ourselves and sift through the fact that someone is very pleased with thier particular Doctor or Surgeon. I only wish I would have met Dr. Aceves before I did my "band" I ultimately had to have my band removed. I have had alot of weird and devistating complications from the band removal surgry. unfourtounatley I had my band done by a different Doctor. In all this out of the Goodness of his heart Dr.Aceves saw me to see if there was something he could do to help me. Most Doctors don't even bother with peolpe like me they just want the easy money and do people who never had complications. Dr. Aceves did not try to sell me something or convince me of anything or anything un professional. He just patientley listened to me and then examined me. He did not make anyunrealistic promises and he really seemed to care. I think you should realize that some doctors are legitt and that is what Wassa is all about. By the way if there were unhappy clients of Dr. Aceves they would have surely surfaced considering he has been a Doctor in mexico since the late nineteen sixtees. Some times people get to a point where they can't fight the weight loss battle alone and between the greedy insurance companies and the whole mind set of people against us BIG people you need to know who the "good people" are and I think Dr.Aceves is a caring proffessional we are all fortunate to find out about. I'm sure you mean well and all, but I have Met this Dr. personally and I don't know why you would knock him unless you are trying to push your doctor or keep people from reaserching and so forth. It seems to me that you must work for a Doctor here in the U.S or else why would you diss on this Doctor?
  10. I have to agree, obviously. And it is so frusterating as it is being overweight, and being denied by insurance companies who are basicly saying, "we don't care if you are 40bmi and could drop dead of a heart attack" . Who would ever want to have a major surgery if the did not need it as a tool to help them battle the weight problem. Some people need to have this life saving surgery and thats all there is to it. And for some it will have to be in Mexico. And thats just the reality. People like her help people avoid the Dr's who are not as forthcoming as the should be. I really enjoy this web site because you really get to talk about the specific isues that matter to you.
  11. Well Jessica thank you for your reply. I would only say that I had surgery in T.J. with a doctor who I learned only after I developed severe disabilities; has a very, very, very questionable reputation. I would only say congratulations to everyone who has been able to get WLS in the U.S. or Mexico. For me it was a life saver as well as the worst medical crisis I have ever had. I know I followed all the strict eating diet guidlines, However I did fail myself in the very begining by not carefully checking out my surgeons reputation. I am Mexican American and take pride in the fact that most mexican's are very Honarable hard working caring people including my uncles aunt's and grandparents and my freinds in Mexico from Los Mochis to Mexico City. I simply think my case is important for others to understand; I went with who I felt comfortable with and could afford, I didn't do my "DUE DILAGANCE" Because of my niev belief that all Mexicans are "BUena jente" and now I am paying for it with extreme pain in my tailbone everytime I sit, since the Band Removal Surgery. Wassabublebutt has a thread on Researching Mexican Lap-Band Doctors 101. I wish I would have known this prior to my initial surgery with the "surgical weight loss center which left me permently crippled for life. Incedentaly I had had a good surgery several years prior in Mexico with a different surgeon, and I had very good results. So what I am saying is "you really need to understand that checking your Doctors Track record is vital to your decsion. And part of that check should include extensive back and forth consistancies. I agree that mexican doctors play a role in making the surgery even a possiblity for some of us, why do you think I did my band in Mexico in the first place and not at Cedar's? My point is the clinic, the Surgeon, and all or any doctor associated with the clinic needs to be a factor in your desiscion. God Bless
  12. Hey Johnny thanks for the heads up. I also had complications from a band placed down in Mexico.

Now I am back to my original weight and I have pain when I sit down in my rear(tailbone). I have been trying to resolve the whole situation and get rid of the pain but I am pretty much disabled.

    God Bless

  13. Yeh, I think Wasa Is coming from the right place. From what I have read she just knows alot more than most and tries to help us overweight people get/access; good, safe, affordable care. Cosmos I appreciatte your suffering and ordeal I wish that never happened to you and I pray that you will be made whole but keep an open mind and beleive in the good in people, people even in the country that hurt you. Remember I too was the victom of a Mexican Surgury gone Bad. And it just may end up being another Mexican Surgeon to Correct the damage. So what I am trying to say is It is good to put it out there but remember some people can't afford american Doctors. I think it is important to talk about how to really check the credentials and track records of these mexican doctors who just may be saving the lives of those who would otherwise be left behind by our broken American medical system.
  14. Thanks Wasa, I have also begun to look into that as well but haven't found much as far as failure rates etc. I liked the Band because it seemed to work so fast but of course that was not the way it was supposed to be. Anybody have experience with the sleeve?

    Exploratory Surgery scar

Hi Kellin, I'm sorry to hear about the accident though it was long ago... I had a scar like you and had no problem getting a "Band" I went to Mexico, If you really feel that you want it I would check out Dr. ACEVES in Mexicali, he really seems like a caring doctor. But you should have no problem getting the surgery here in the US Just because of a scar. They use Laproscopic tools they are kinda like long skinny poles with special tools at the ends. They make little holes to pass those tools inside under the veiw of a camera. Hope this helps
  16. Wasa, you are awsome. I have learned so much from your posts thank you. I too had a band placed, but had to have it removed. I can only say I have learned alot, I was very trusting and nieve. Since the band removal surgery I have developed pain when I sit. It is very debilitating and difficult to diagnose. I have also realized that I need to do something about my obeysity again. Thank you for sharing the information. I really liked my surgeon in tj I mean I thought they were cool and stuff but in the end I may have been ignorant to the bad reputatation. I will say that I have met Dr.Aceves in Mexicalli and he seemed to truly be concerned for my well being even though I am somebody elses mess. That is he did not cause me the harm and yet as a physician cared enough to talk with me about some options and perhaps course of treatment. He is a total proffesional and it is that simple. I think that says alott. My journey to regain my health is still underway, but I do have some real life experiences sadly to draw from and I strongly commend Wasa for her generous presentations of relative information for those who are trying to descide who to go to in Mexico or anywere else.
  17. I had a band placed in TJ and lost 180lbs in like 11months, I had no Idea how fast or slow the weight loss should go. I am hearing now that generaly it goes much slower and safer. I would through up 2-3 times a day and could not even pass pedialite towards the end. I have gained all of my wieght back since I had no choice but to have the band removed apx a year and a half ago. I was wondering if anybody out there could shed some light on what went wrong? It has been suggested that the band may have been the wrong size for me or that the band was too tight? Should I get a Lap band the inamed one because the one I had was not?
