Nothing was ever discussed during the classes about eating lettuce. I love salad and I can understand not eating raw vegetables like radishes, green peppers, etc. But what about shredded lettuce? Will I ever be able to eat that again? :tt2:

Was Banded on 8-8-08 .. Is it safe to have an adult beverage?
dfox3325 replied to Missprdiva's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I went to the beach 2 weeks after surgery and had a Kahlua and 1% milk. I tasted great and I was getting Protein. Very relaxing! I asked at my post-op appointment and my surgeon said "in moderation, but have fun, you earned it". He is one of the top bariatric surgeons in the US. My social 1 to 2 drinks on a Saturday night, did not make me fat, eating like a hog did! -
Going to six flags...Question
dfox3325 replied to liquidbluegal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wow, that sounds awesome!! I wish Pittsburgh had something as cool as that!! I would have done that on my 11th day post-sugery and would have been totally ready for it!! -
Going to six flags...Question
dfox3325 replied to liquidbluegal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I went to Outer Banks 11 days after Lap Band. I even drove 9 hours to get there. I was a little tried, but got to rest all week. Food wise is a challenge. I drank lots of Propel and stopped at Taco Bell's for Pintos and Cheese. At Subway I was able to order the 6" tuna sub and just didn't eat the bun. Pasta seems fine too. I just ate 1/4 cups and chewed very well. Most theme parks have really good food and you can pick something. Get bottled water. I took the single serving Propel powder in my purse and drank tons of it. I mean, you are going to be walking miles in the park, eat ice cream!! Your not going to gain weight with all that exercise and it's only a day or two. Not the greatest choice, but sugar and protein will keep up your energy levels. Take time a sit and people watch when you are tired. I'll be three weeks post-op tomorrow and I'm down 16 pounds since the week prior to surgery!!! I only lost 1 pound the week of vacation but I was more concerned I getting my energy levels back to what they were before the liquid diets before surgery. I'm pretty much back to normal now and watching everything I eat. :biggrin2: -
Unbearable Shoulder Pain!!!
dfox3325 replied to LissaLou75's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had the shoulder pain minutes after the surgery. Soon as I could I was moving around, walking, cleaning, etc. anything to ease it. It was one of the two issues I had after surgery, the second was I couldn't take the pain meds. The pain meds didn't touch the gas pain at all. A hot compress and massage helps and I took Liquid Adult Tylenol. You need to drink as much as possible. I was on Phase II liquid diet 5 days after. I was really sick of the liquids I was drinking pre-op. I just got creative. I love buttermilk (lo-fat) and that helped so much. I did drink lots of Propel. Creamed Soups worked and Campbells Bean with Bacon, too. I pureed it and watered it down, tasted like heaven!!! :biggrin2: Hang in there! -
I am to be banded around the end of July. I have a weeks vacation at OBX scheduled the 3rd week of August. Am I going to feel well enough to swim, walk, drive, ride bikes, etc. or should I schedule surgury after I come back? I can't change the vacation dates but I can schedule the surgery accordingly. :confused2:

RE: Vacation After Banding
dfox3325 replied to dfox3325's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks for your input!! I really want this done ASAP and knowing that I won't feel crappy during vacation helps. We have 12 people staying at our beach house and I guess I will be cooking but just not eating. Has anyone had any thoughts of using a small food processor with normal foods, like several months after being banded? :confused2: -
Good luck!!! Let me know how it goes!!!:wink2:

I'm from PA too!! 40 miles east of Pittsburgh. My doctors are Dr. Quinlin and Dr. Means at Pittsburgh Bariatrics. I'm to be banded in July.:biggrin2:

I started my journey towards Lap Band in January 2008, my surgery is to be sometime in July. I am starting to get a little nervous about what is to come. I'm doing well reminding myself eat every few hours small amounts of food to keep my metabolism up and re-training myself. I also carry a Water bottle around with me constantly so I remind myself to get enough fluids. I am going to Pittsburgh Bariatrics in Fox Chapel area (St. Margaret's Hospital) and my doctors are Dr. Means and Dr. Quinlin. They tell me that this particular place is a "Source of Excellence" in the bariatrics arena. I enjoy going to the meetings every month and have learned so much about the body and food. I have always thought that I was the "Queen of Diets" over the last 40 years, I would lose 60-70 pounds and then put it back on and more in 5 years. Like I said I've learned a lot since I started this retraining. I'm not a sweet eater, but I have a habit of not eating all day and eating too much in the evening (volume). I have been attemping to change that. I'll told I am a perfect candidate for Lap Band. I have been extremely active over the years even with the weight, but I have a back problem that has been keeping me from doing the things I want to do. Hopefully losing the weight will improve this!!

Check out Protein shakes before surgery
dfox3325 replied to yvonneb3's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I haven't been banded yet, not until July. So, you used the shakes for your liquid diet right after being banded? I was wondering about them. I am not a sweet eater but I get I'll have to get used to drinking them. I would rather do the cream Soup with the added Protein powder. I was thinking about going to a General Nutrition store to see what they had to offer. -
I'll need all the support I can get!!!
