Successful bypass surgery doesn't feel successful

My mother used to say..there is nothing worse than a reformed smoker or eater....seems to me you should focus on yourself and lets the others live their own life. If they want your advise they will seek it. We can't force others to "see the light". Just my 2 cents. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N920A using the BariatricPal App -
I am going to speak to my Dr. about this but I wanted to see here what people have experienced. I know, that cake and candy and all the sweets are a no no, luckily I don't have a sweet tooth, so for me, this is not hard. However. coffee. I have tried for weeks (I am 12 days post surgery) I just can not get used to skim milk and artificial sweetener. So I would be so happy to just go back to my coffee mate..it has 5grams of sugar per tablespoon, and I am a 1 cup a day. Yes, now it's decaf...it would just make me feel like myself again. So here is the question for sleevers. Is a little sugar taboo because of the calories? Or is it because our new stomachs can not process it? What have your Dr's told you and what have you experienced?

It turns out that I do, in fact, have a teeny stomach

Water is the thing that bring me closest to vomiting....good reminder to go slow. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N920A using the BariatricPal App -
Thank you..that was encouraging words I needed. Hormones....yeah...that makes a lot of sense! I too do not want to be told how I look like I lost weight...hurts me right now. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N920A using the BariatricPal App

I was sleeved the 17th too. Physically fine, not a problem at all with soreness. But..mentally not so good. I have had a tough week. I think of food all the time, and have crazy cravings. I have also experienced hunger which has been disappointing. Started with 1st real food today, 1/2 scambled egg...was so looking forward to it. It tasted good, but I did not feel good afterwards. I get heartburn and gassy. Hoping it gets better, but so far, I have serious "buyers remorse". Doesn't feel worth the 22 lbs down since surgery.

How do I get in more fluids?
daisy63 replied to sleevingbeauty321's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 16 days post op and I STILL have not hit 64 oz.I can take bigger sips now, but today I started with actual...mushy food...and I have to do the 1/2 hr no drinking before and the no drinking the hr after. That has set me behind big time with the liquids. Now I have NEVER been a drinker....I prob did 24 oz avg a day before and now I hit 50 oz regularly...and I feel like I am swimming on the inside. Water has been the only think that makes me throw up..I am trying so hard to get it all in. -
ANYONE FEEL LIKE IT WAS A "WASTE"?
daisy63 replied to TaureanMe's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My concern is, we can eat so little..sounds like we can gain or not lose on 1/4 of the food we could eat before if it's not the right food. If so, then yes, this was a waste. -
Everyone is different. I was barely sore and never took pain meds. Not even in the hospital.

That show freaked me out every time too!! Keep in mind the most severe cases with the most horrible situations are on the show. Otherwise it would not be interesting. -
2 weeks out and daydreaming about carbs
daisy63 replied to Holly McQuillan's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am 2 weeks out as well. My rough time is 1 - 3 in the afternoon..that when I did my eating....today, my desire was a Big Mac...haven't had one in 6 mos, but oh today...I could taste it, feel it...and could not for the life of me get it out of my mind. I think we are grieving. Seriously grieving. I think most people go through it. This is the hard part...the surgery was a piece of cake compared to the head games. I have not cheated much, once I had my daughters mashed potatoes..a bite, and was sick to my stomach after, then once I took a bite of chicked and then spit it out. Tasted terrible! Don't beat yourself up. I think we are just adjusting and need to pat ourselves on the back for all the things that are going right. -
I was sleeved Jan 17, 2017..I have a 9 yr old...its been hard. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N920A using the BariatricPal App

I was sleeved 2 weeks ago today. I too freaked out the night before..I only had to do liquid 3 days pre-op, honestly I was so hungry and out of my mind had I had to do 12 days I would not have gone through with it. That makes it so much harder. Almost at the end of week too and its been rough, I have had buyers remorse a lot. Today was a good day..was not too hungry and didn't think about food. One day at a time and this is only temporary...we will socialize and eat again..only much less. If you can make it thru 12 days you will do fine.

I am having the same problem. The protein drink helped calm it down but its been a struggle...I pray this ends with the introduction of actual food this week (week 3 for me). Its only 1/2 an egg and 1/4 piece of toast, tuna....but it will feel good to chew. Hang in there.this is very temporary.
-
Good luck to all of you! I was TOTALLY FREAKED the night before and was not convinced I was going to go through with it...its totally normal. In retrospect that was easy compared to 2 weeks out and CRAVING food.... One day at a time..oh..and just so you know...I had NO pain, I was groggy..but surgery itself was nothing compared to what I thought. Everyone is different of course, but just so you know, it might be way easier than you think.

I was sleeved the 17th as well. Not sure how much I have lost...the Dr. ordered me away from the scale...lol...of course I cheated...looks like down 16 so far....20 from the post up liquid diet (3 days). I guess we'd better prepare for a slow down...

Ive honestly thought about chewing on food, then spitting it out. But, then I figured the temptations of swallowing the food would come in. This is suppose to be my life change that I decided to do for myself. So I just need to suck it up! BUT geeeesh, its SO hard! Im happy to know, I'm not the only one that has struggled with this. Thanks for your response. Its good to know we can be there for each other. * Misty * Misty, I was sleeved 1/17. I am struggling with this too....big time. I can literally feel food in my mouth and am craving things I have not had in years! Commercials, and just driving by fast food places are all messing with my head. The cliche 1 day at a time is all we can do. I keep drinking, savor my yogurt and mashed potatoes and can't wait to add egg in week 3! Hang in there....one day at a time. This too shall pass.

I am 11 days post op..and I told everyone. To me its a health issue...the losing and the gaining. I have nothing to hide...this is NOT the easy way. Surgery went great and I left the hospital no longer on diabetes meds. However...and PS your story could have been about me....it is hard. I am mourning food and week 2 has been rough because of it. My mom died a month ago unexpectedly...but I did surgery anyway. I no longer have my comfort of food and that is the worse pain I have felt. My clothes are loose...I am loosing 1 lb a day..but is is not making up for my loss. Truth. Think hard about it is my advise. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N920A using the BariatricPal App

Funny how different the Dr's are. I can only do yogurt, mashed potatoes, cream of wheat or cottage cheese...a teaspoon full. No fish or beans for anotherr 2 weeks. ugh.
-
I am only allowed a teaspoon at a time. It's not enough, but that is all I am doing. Very limited choices.

Two weeks post op and gaining?
daisy63 replied to barrel racer again's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I get the tool...but a tablespoon or teaspoon or even a 1/4 cup of food should not cause ANY weight gain..if it does then thats a problem. I could shoot myself for not asking the Dr. if a smaller stomach means I will gain on way less food.... -
Two weeks post op and gaining?

Telling me not to eat...

I completely understand. -
Me too! Olive Garden was my "last meal" lol. Yes we need to hang in there and expect there will be times it's very hard. Few more days and we can have applesauce and mashed potatoes! Will seem like a feast!

I am very lucky I didn't have to do a 2 week liquid only. I had 3 days Clear liquids and that was horrible. That's what I keep telling myself...1 day at a time.
