    What to expect after surgery

Understand that one person's experience does not equal everyone's experience. I wasn't in much pain and had no gas at all. I never had morphine and wasn't swollen either. Take each person's experience as an example of what you *might* experience. Good luck!
  3. Would I do it again? Hell yes.

    Keloid scars after surgery?

I'm two and a half years post surgery and you couldn't see my scars unless your nose was against my stomach. That probably painted an odd picture.
  5. Have you talked to your surgical team about this? If not, please do. Good luck!

    A little worried

With all due respect, it sounds like you're putting the cart before the horse. There's a lot on your mind at this stage. Focus on what you can control now and you won't need to sweat a revision later. Good luck!

    Not sure what to expect

It depends on the requirements your insurance and surgical team require. You might need six months of supervised weight loss. You might not. You'll probably meet with a nutritionist and quite possibly a psychiatrist. There might be group meetings to attend. These are all things I - and many others - did. My best advice is to get all your questions answered by your surgical team. Good luck!

    Acid reflux

Of course. I've never met a weight-loss surgery patient who didn't.
  9. @BubbleSam I'm doing great, thanks! Surgery was about two and a half years ago. Every day is maintenance. At this point it's not about dramatic weight loss anymore. That phase is over. I'm now focused on making good eating decisions, exercising, and taking care of myself. Thanks for asking!
  10. "The easy way out"?! I laugh my butt off every time someone says that. I'll take the opportunity to explain to that person just how "easy" post-weight-loss-surgery maintenance is. By the time I'm done, that person feels overwhelmed and leaves me alone. To the original poster, perhaps explaining to your father that remaining heavy is more dangerous to you than getting healthy may help. Good luck!

    What to tell people?

"I can't worry about what people think." - arringtonc49 got that exactly right. I'm an open book. I'll tell anybody. I have a very supporting wife and family and have only ever gotten one negative reaction. IMO, agonizing whether to tell someone is usually much worse than actually just telling someone.

    Help

    You got this!
  13. Now that you mention it, yes. That abated for me soon enough. Vivid is one thing, but nightmares are another. If you have chronic nightmares, consider mentioning this to your surgical team. Good luck!

    2 year Post Op

I'm two and a half years out. I've lost a lot but would like to lose more. Unfortunately I've stalled big time. From everything I've learned from my surgical team, other people who've had weight-loss surgery, and others is this is entirely normal and expected. The dramatic weight-loss phase is over. Now it's about making good choices about what to put in your mouth. I'm upping my exercise and that's helping a little. I wish you good luck!

    Post surgery questions

It depends. I was at the gym two days after surgery. Others take longer. Take as long as you need. Ease into activities. Good luck and keep checking in!
  16. Good for you, chef! If Graham Elliot can do it, so can you! Good luck!

    Re: Post-Op Eating

VSjrs is right. Every person is different. Some tolerate carbs, some don't. Some tolerate alcohol, some don't. I'm more than two years past surgery and there are some things I still can't eat or drink. I've made peace with those because there's so much more I *can* eat and drink. Celebrate what you can do now and realize it will continue to change. Good luck!

    Best advice

This question is very broad and I bet if you asked 10 people, you'd get at least 11 answers. That said, my advice is to understand what you're about to do is not a diet. It's not something you do for a while and then stop. It's a lifestyle change. To be successful, understand - and welcome - that what you're doing is permanent. Good luck and be sure to check in here often. That's what makes this community so valuable.

    Water

You tell us. Take a drink of water the way you used to and report back to us. I'm more than two years past surgery and I can't drink water the way I used to. I used to chug it. If I tried that now, I'd be in so much pain. Chugging is no longer "normal". What I do now is now "normal".

    Vomiting after surgery

Please consult your surgical team. Good luck!

    Ughhh this won't be easy

There you go! You can do this!
  22. Did you sleep pattern change? If I don't get enough sleep, my weight creeps up.

    Alcohol

Juisjitsu is right. It's definitely a risk. Good luck!
