I'm in St. Tammany. Salvation Army is actually a very good, reputable charity. They give back to the community and invest in actually helping people. Goodwill, however, does not! Salvation army is the only one I donate to, but I'll look into St. Vincent. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G935A using the BariatricPal App

I just moved from TX to LA, and we're still in temporary housing. When I packed, I threw all my dress clothes in Rubbermaids and brought them with me to temporary housing. Some mornings, I grab 3 pairs of pants before I find ones that will stay up. Yesterday, I finally started going through the Rubbermaids and tossing out anything over a size 14 or an xl shirt. This means I'm now down to what clothing I've purchased since moving to Louisiana! All that space those Rubbermaids took up in the car was wasted! Doh. Ah well. Live and learn. Now to find the local salvation army to donate all those clothes to! Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G935A using the BariatricPal App

NOT the easy way out...
agirlhasnofluff replied to bodyslmmn's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Easy was eating junk and staying fat. Not easy is eating junk, staying fat, having the worst stomachache of your life, and then spending several hours crapping your brains out while gagging your brains out over the stench. Yeah. I am the type of person who learns that way. No more corn nuggets. Ever. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G935A using the BariatricPal App -

Anyone had a DS in Louisiana or a PCP there that's familiar with the DS? I move to LA in a few days, but I'm only just over 2 months post-op. I'm terrified to leave my surgeon and his care, but this is happening! I need to find a new doc to monitor my bloodwork and make sure I don't get malnourished! Today, I am wondering what I have done to myself
agirlhasnofluff posted a topic in Duodenal Switch Surgery Forum
Maybe this should be in Rants and Raves, and not here, but I really needed to vent a bit. I had duodenal switch surgery with gallbladder removal and a liver biopsy on October 24. I am seriously wondering what I've done to myself. Everyday is an adventure in weird and random pains, eating food and then feeling awful when I eat too fast, too much, or the wrong thing, going through a roll of TP a day in wiping my butt after the 8,000 times a day I "poop", going through recipes and wanting to cry because I can't eat ANY OF THEM. The list goes on. I was trying to make it to two weeks before having a pity party, but today was just over the top with being caused physical pain from taking my Vitamins and Calcium, having an hour long chat with my toilet after eating refried Beans, doubling over in pain while trying to organize all this stuff I now have to doctor Protein shakes to make them at least somewhat drinkable, and then coping with feeling bloated and miserable all day. All the while, I'm eating exactly what is on my food plan, but I'm finding it absolutely impossible to eat 4 times a day, drink 3 Protein Shakes, take 4 rounds of vitamins, and still drink 64 Oz of Water while never being allowed to drink because I just ate. Uuuuugh. Oh, and to add insult to injury, I was up 6/10 of a pound this morning. WHAT HAVE I DONE??? Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G935A using the BariatricPal App -

Drunk water after eating
agirlhasnofluff replied to aharrison48's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've puked from taking a sip of Water directly after eating. Sometimes, I have to wait an hour or more until my tummy feels up to drinking again. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G935A using the BariatricPal App -
I absolutely did not try anything I wasn't supposed to when my diet was restricted. And now? I still don't! (I'm nearly 8 weeks out.) I took two tiny, tiny bites of pumpkin cheesecake at a work bake off, and I still feel guilty! So, no, we didn't all eat things we shouldn't have. And I struggle. Everyday. I go to the grocery store and just flip packages over to read the carb and sugar contents, and then I walk away. I did eat the rice flour breaded fried shrimp, when I was cleared to eat all the things, and after puking my guts out and not being able to eat or drink the rest of the day, I may never try fried food again. But dammit, I'm fat because of food. I'm going to become unfat through food and willpower and the talents of my surgeon! And if I make stupid choices, please make fun of me to help me see the stupidity in my choices! Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G935A using the BariatricPal App

I had a duodenal switch, which is supposed to create gas so foul it'll make wallpaper peel. Except I only have fit bad the first week or two. I'm 7 weeks post op, and my poop smells pretty normal. But I also am very strict about carb intake. I read before surgery that carbs can make poop super stinky. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G935A using the BariatricPal App

Moving Advice post-sleeve please
agirlhasnofluff replied to Mom2Luke's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm 6 weeks post op from a duodenal switch, and I've got half my house packed up and in the garage. I'll be moving when I'm about 9 or 10 weeks post op. The thing is, I gotta do what I gotta do, and right now, that means packing and moving to another state. So far, I've only had minor issues with lifting heavy boxes and feeling the pull in my belly. Otherwise, a okay. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G935A using the BariatricPal App -
Well, I finally made stupid choices and ended up with stupid results. Just an FYI, I am officially cleared to eat all the foods. I went to an Asian restaurant yesterday and ordered my favorite shrimp fish to split with my friend. I managed to forget it was breaded in rice flour, and I didn't even consider that it was deep fried. I also ordered Chinese greens. I ate two shrimp and a few bites of greens. I was feeling panicked and full and like I couldn't breathe. I took 3 sips of Water (something I've absolutely not done since surgery) and immediately headed to the restroom. I threw up before I could even get the door locked. Uuuuugh. I went back to the table, but I had to immediately get up again and throw up again. I decide to try eating another shrimp with most of the breading knocked off. Nope. It came up, too. Great job, genius! I then had a 6 hour car ride home, my guts screaming and groaning, unable to so much as sip water without further angering my guts. It was pretty miserable. I got home, drank some broth, and listened to my guts further gripe and groan. All I could think about was my total Protein intake of 0 for the day and how my long, beautiful hair is going to fall out. Lessons learned: Don't eat friend food. And sure as hell don't eat carbs!!!! I won't be experimenting like that again for a very, very long time. Just because you're cleared to eat anything doesn't mean you can eat anything... Naah, I'm more of a chips and guac girl myself. It's cool to eat those one week out, right? I ate them first day out, while still in the hospital, and I've lost like 856 pounds in 3 months, so you'll be just fine. Good luck! Experiment away and post here so everyone will know how the vets have no idea what they're talking about, as well as the doctors and nutritionists. Dallas doctors indicted by Feds in massive Dallas hospital conspiracy.
agirlhasnofluff replied to Buffy1's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
@@amethyst391 Glad you did research before committing! I'm pretty sure a LOT of people don't! I heard talk while I was in the hospital about how he's more or less running a factory for wls. I commented to one of the pre op test folks about why I chose the surgeon I did. He asked me who else I considered. I told him I looked into Dr. Kim, but the guy losing his legs scared me. The guy was like, "oh, you heard about that, did you?" I told him it came up easily when I Googled! He said they (the pre op testing folks) keep their opinions about doctors to themselves, but he's glad people can find reviews of doctors on line. My daughter is 13 and sleeps in my bed, typically. She is completely oblivious to my snoring and sleep apnea. My sleep apnea slowly got worse as I got fatter, but she sleeps like a rock, so when I asked her if I was gasping in my sleep, she had no idea. I happen to sleep very hard, too, so when people's spouses don't notice, it's probably because it's a gradual onset, they aren't educated about sleep apnea, or they sleep like rocks and don't notice anything while asleep! The CPAP changed my life for the better though! I highly recommend people who are always tired or needing naps get a sleep study done. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G935A using the BariatricPal App

watching a video of the surgery should be required!
agirlhasnofluff replied to kmorri's topic in Rants & Raves
My 13 year old watched a video of a DS surgery so that she could better understand what I would be dealing with. She also learned about proper eating after DS with me and would remind me to drink or eat Protein. (not that I really needed her to remind me, but she wants her mama to be healthy and successful). I about laughed myself stupid over this one. Did you go ahead and stock up on the grilled cheese sandwiches, too? I think you're making a pretty good start for your post-op needs! Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G935A using the BariatricPal App

Shame, shame, shame. A $250k fine is chump change though! It's amazing that I keep seeing Dr. Kim and Dr. Nicholson come up in various scandals. Dr. Kim has been sued by patients more than once, I do believe. I know one guy had his vena cava sewed shut and lost both of his legs. I think another gal died from anesthesia and it was ruled as having been preventable since she was showing signs of not handling it well or something like that. Eating protein
agirlhasnofluff replied to sdwhitney2010's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm nearly 6 weeks. I struggle, too. I get the brick feeling often, and then I can't eat or drink for the rest of the day. chicken does this to me, for sure. I think I eat too fast and am not chewing it well enough. Shrimp doesn't sit overly well, either. Canned chicken seems to be fine for me and sometimes tuna makes me feel bricked out. It's really annoying! Soft cheeses do okay for me though. And fage green yogurt and cottage cheese are fine. I ate an egg yolk from a hard boiled egg yesterday and was mostly okay, but the whites made me want to puke. It's definitely a tough stage to be in! First Day Trip - Need suggestions for care
agirlhasnofluff posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I tried searching for this info first, but I couldn't make my search terms specific enough. Tomorrow, I'll be two weeks and 5 days post-op from a duodenal switch. My 72 year old aunt has asked me to drive 3.5 hours to another city to visit her while she's in town doing demonstrations at a renaissance festival. I agreed to do so in July, before my surgery happened, and I hadn't thought about it again until tonight when she messaged me. I'm now extremely nervous about taking care of myself while driving 7 hours and spending probably half a day or more at the festival. I'm not sure if the festival allows outside food and drink, but my guess is no. I'm sure I can find plenty of Water, but I don't know what to do about food. I am on soft foods, btw. I can eat before I go, and I can pack a snack or two to eat on the way down and when I get there, but I need suggestions for while I'm on the grounds. I'm not eating meat yet (that's not canned, at least), so no turkey legs. I could eat the cheese off pizza, but I'm worried it'll make me blow up a Porta john. I'm probably going to sneak in a packet of apple sauce and a packet of tuna (which I haven't eaten yet, because I'm afraid it'll be too dry). Any suggestions for food I may be able to eat at the festival (it's a massive festival)? I'm thinking after I leave the festival, I can stop at taco bell for Beans or something (something else I haven't tried. No eating out at all since surgery). I am not planning on taking any Protein powder with me, but maybe I should and mix it with some ice water after the festival? This is stressful! I appreciate whatever advice y'all can provide! Canned chicken / stage 3 / soft foods
agirlhasnofluff replied to workerbeemama26's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
A brick of cream cheese, aarge can of chicken, 1/2 cup of wing sauce, 1/2 packet of ranch seasoning. Mix and bake at 350 for 20ish minutes. It's fantastic! Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G935A using the BariatricPal App -
I was authorized soft foods from day 8 on. I've been eating them for weeks. I haven't eaten crackers, still, even though I'm week 5. Crackers don't liquify in your mouth, and they have very sharp crumbs. I'd be super worried about them hurting my healing stomach so early out! Plus the carbs and sugar in them are not great for your new stomach. I'd definitely recommend following your doctor's orders, especially because it will greatly increase your chances of success. Right now is the "easy" part because you're just expected to drink Protein and liquids. The hard part comes when you add foods and get to play the guessing game with what your body will accept and what it will reject. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G935A using the BariatricPal App

Realistic Weight Loss Expectations
agirlhasnofluff replied to Mac the Knife's topic in Duodenal Switch Surgery Forum
In the first 2 weeks, my doc expects us to be down 2-3 BMI points. At the three month visit, he expects us to be down 10 BMI points. I'm not sure after that. I did not have a goal number set for me, either. And I have a DS (26 days out) Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G935A using the BariatricPal App -
haven't lost cravings yet...
agirlhasnofluff replied to MSer07's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
What is the logic behind not eating too much of it? I take prilosec everyday, but I also eat a LOT of hot sauce. I haven't felt any effects, so far, but coworker who is 3 years out from a DS (we have the same surgeon) got on me the other day and told me I'm not supposed to be eating spicy food. I haven't eaten any since he said that to me, but I was curious about why I shouldn't. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G935A using the BariatricPal App
