Honestly, at 6 months out, I do eat out a lot. I can pretty much always find something on the menu that's not too terrible: just look for high protein, low carb. Usually I go for an appetizer, which I rarely finish. I have no regrets about the surgery. It doesn't limit my ability to do all the things I used to love doing. It doesn't even, really, prevent me from tasting things that I always loved. I just can't overindulge the way I used to.

Posting here too, because I am SO EXCITED!! my six months post op shot. The first is from about a year ago, at my heaviest; the second is about a month post op; the third is today!!

Mother's Day post-op meal ideas
Brandeis replied to gogreenmama's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
How about quiche? It's so fancy-sounding and seeming, and SO good once you have sleeve. You can do with a pie crust, and then not eat the crust yourself, or you can do it crustless. My preferred quiche these days is done crustless in a muffin tin! It makes each one a nice size for portioning... -
Regret, full feeling, satisfaction
Brandeis replied to Propo's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I still eat the things I loved to eat before, most of them. It's just, instead of eating enough to make me fat, now, I eat ONE BITE OF THEM when SOMEONE ELSE orders it at a restaurant -- and that's enough to leave me satisfied. Don't think of this as the end of being a foodie, because I certainly still love food. I just don't love to EAT. The trick is the same thing that all those skinny people all over the world use: moderation. You'll be satisfied with less, and you won't feel like you're missing out. -
I think some people have an easier time eating more post op than others. I'm at 6 months now and, honestly, I very rarely can make it through the full 4oz that people say we're able to eat. Some food is easier than others, and some days it's easier as well. But so long as your blood work is good, and you're not losing more weight than is healthy for you -- why should you push yourself to eat more, except for good old "clean your plate" guilt?

Beans- the magical fruit?
Brandeis replied to deanalyn's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Fun fact about beans: the more you eat, the LESS you toot! Apparently your tummy builds up a tolerance so the more beans you eat, the less gas they'll give you. -
Can't seem to find a protein bar I can stand
Brandeis replied to jbaker5d's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Just a thought, but what about just straight up almonds? have like 8 of those for a good hit of protein... -
Can't seem to find a protein bar I can stand
Brandeis replied to jbaker5d's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I use it when I need it, but honestly, it does NOT have much protein at all. -
Can't seem to find a protein bar I can stand
Brandeis replied to jbaker5d's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
After fluids stage, I have not been able to tolerate ANY protein shakes, they're super, super gross. I definitely suggest trying to supplement with real protein things, like said above ^ If you need a "quick hit", though, you might consider Fair Life milk~ It's protein enhanced milk, and they make a chocolate milk as well. Not the BEST for you, but it's quite good! -
Did you "force" yourself to eat things post op that you never liked before?
Brandeis replied to FatPharm's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
If you want a really MILD fish, I'd try some tilapia; it's the chicken of the sea, doesn't taste very fishy at all, and you can prepare it in many similar flavor profiles to the way you do chicken! If you want to be a bit more daring, I'd say go for some salmon; many people who don't like "fish" still like salmon, in my experience. It's very one of a kind! Personally, I buy the sodium-free marinades at the grocery store (teriyaki is great!) and I just pour it on the fish, then pop it in the over. I don't have times etc on my mind, but if you just google you can find those easily enough! -
How often so you weigh in?
Brandeis replied to maggieO's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
This is my too. I wish I had the strength NOT to weigh this often -- I think it's better for mental health, in many ways -- but what can you do. Just accept the ups and downs~ -
Did you "force" yourself to eat things post op that you never liked before?
Brandeis replied to FatPharm's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
My prefs have changed some, but mostly in the direction of NOT liking things I used to like; there's nothing I used to hate that I really love now. There are a ton of cheeses I used to enjoy, that are too stinky for me now. And a lot of chicken is rough on my tum, and basically things that make me feel gross after I eat them -- well, they now just flat out taste bad to me. But you should DEFINITELY at least try things! I have to say that fish is one of the easiest things for me to digest, now...it's really great. -
"can" is a hard question to answer. Probably, yes, you can! But the problem with watermelon is that it has a lot of sugar, and almost no nutritional value. If you're craving fruit, try to stick to berries; they're a much better choice, since they're high in fiber and other goodies~

I'm going to go against the flow and say I think I could have gone to the tournament, if I could just sit and watch! However, I would strongly suggest you get someone else to drive you~

My closet is quickly looking bare...
Brandeis replied to dberthelot02's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I feel you so hard! I have about 10 outfits now, and that's IT. But I've also set aside a whole bunch of old stuff I really loved to take in once the time comes... -
Being too sensitive or not?
Brandeis replied to naima's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
My doctor said that often we'll look sunken immediately after weight loss -- it's part of the process -- and that it'll slowly fade just a bit to settle into something that looks healthier. For now, ignore the haters (and to me, you look more than fine!!) -

NOVEMBER SLEEVERS! HOW MUCH HAVE YOU LOST SINCE NOVEMBER SLEEVE SURGERY AND HOW DID YOU LOST ALL WEIGHT! Thank you
Brandeis replied to nikita30's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I'm down about 65 pounds since surgery now, about 90 total! I'm also experiencing some hair loss, though; seems to be going around... -
Mojitos are def going to be too sugary. My advice is to stick to classic/prohibition era cocktails; generally they have just a few ingredients, mostly clear liquors, and the mixers aren't too sweet. However, most also are based around gin, so if you're not a gin fan that probably won't do you much good lol! Whiskey's also pretty good; it's keto friendly, along with tequila. I have a friend who's doing keto and all he drinks is whiskey & tequila, on ice! But he gets the good stuff. (;

I've been having a hard time with the crystal light powders recently, but I found these little crystal light liquid squirt bottles -- and they're way better! none of that artificial mouth-feel to them, and no residue left behind in cups/bottles (that always freaked me out a bit...) Maybe give these a try?

Interesting Protein Supplements (post your finds!)
Brandeis replied to Rbayne83's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
For coffee, have you tried Fairlife milk? It has a bit of sugar, but not a whole lot, and it's enriched with protein. There's a regular and a chocolate, and each is a decent calorie/protein breakdown!
