    Corn chips and crackers

Corn chips may be a trigger food. I would pass them up. I am allowed crunchy food now. I found some lentil crackers at home goods and was able to eat a couple and stop. But if I tried corn chips that would just lead to other bad choices. I need some carbs or I feel foggy and fatigued. I try for good carbs though. Like I tell my 17 year old daughter when she leaves the house. " make good choices" Good luck in your choices may they be good ones! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  6. Mherrera-we will be going to Domenican Republic for 8 days beginning of April too. Although I will be 5 months post op I still worry about it., especially being out on excursions. We go every year to an all inclusive either there or Mexico. Back then it was eating Mexican food, drinking beer, mixed drinks and Pina Coladas. Oh this trip will be so different!! No more laying around on the beach sipping drinks all day! Lilikchen- definitely go on a cruise! There's great healthy options on a cruise. My friend just went on one and said there were so many Protein and fresh fruit options everywhere. She actually lost weight on the cruise! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

CAN you eat vs SHOULD you eat

Wow. This is quite sad. While I don't defend people who are asking about funnel cakes etc... I do have a somewhat different perspective. Not everyone is intelligent or has common sense. Many people (me ) were self pay and had NO pre op classes, no nutritionist, no counseling, no booklet to refer to. My friend on the other hand had all of that plus a huge binder to refer to. Thank God I'm in the medical profession and read what I needed to. We all got overweight for different reasons. Some lack of education, some emotional trauma, lack of money or resources, hereditary, or any other reason we know nothing about. The sleeve didn't cure them but then the sleeve didn't cure their mind either. It's like an alcoholic---just because he is in the 12 step program doesn't mean he knows it all or can control it. They go to seek advice and help -so do some here. No one is perfect and yes they might need justification but maybe that is their coping mechanism that they are working thru. Let's hope they are successful with whatever coping mechanisms work for them (instead of food) Yes , there are trolls and really dumb questions but we are not in their shoes and don't know their intentions or reasons. I see patients who are on 5 liters of oxygen but still smoke, I had a patients husband tell me he puts 18 sugars in his coffee and gives his diabetic wife juice with no idea it had tons of sugar in it. I have patients that have no idea what a carb or Protein is. I don't ridicule them or make them feel dumb. I try to educate them. I think everyone hopes to be a success story and be around to help guide others. But unfortunately the sleeve doesn't do the work and there are so many people that need support whether it's to educate or listen or just let them vent. Yes we all know it should be common sense not to eat Cookies, cake and candy. But if someone takes the time to ask maybe you will be the ONE voice of reason that helps them on their journey and gets thru to them. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

  9. Just start a new day fresh. It's a new way of life and we can't be perfect all the time . Maybe you didn't eat as much as you would have before? Maybe you are more conscious about it and will try to remember how you felt next time? My friend that has lost over 125lbs said "make good choices with your next meal and don't let it be an excuse to keep eating like that". Don't look back. Today is a new day! Remember why you did this! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Low sugar drinks

I don't like the artificial sweetener either but if I'm lacking in my Water by mid day I seem to get a bottle of water down faster with the sf grape flavor. For some reason I can't drink it at night and not everyday either. I drink a lot of lemon water too. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Avoiding Hypoglycemia

Try to have a snack with Protein so there is no spike then crash. Someone once told me chocolate milk was the perfect after workout snack. Although post op I'm not sure? Not really sure how much sugar is in it. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Mashed potatoes? Carbs?

I ate a few bites after surgery during the soft stage. You will be surprised how little you can eat of it. 2 bites and you might be full. I would eat your Protein first then if you still want it ( and it's ok with your Dr ) then try it. At later stages when you are on normal foods, it's just not worth it to waste space with non essential foods. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  17. That is awesome! 40 lbs? Congrats to you! What was your surgery date? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

  20. Raw almonds, cheese, cottage cheese with unsweetened applesauce, sugar free pudding with GENEPRO Protein, olives, plain yogurt smoothie with fruit , and sugar free Popsicles are what kills cravings for me But I am also only 6 weeks so I haven't moved onto raw veggies yet. I am still in the exploratory phase like you. Still looking for ideas for meals Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  21. Do not worry about the calories right now. Focus on getting Protein and Water in. Focus on what foods you are allowed at this time. Get in the protein and water requirements your Dr told you to. Take a look at Dr Mathew Weiner's YouTube videos. He has a lot of information about weight loss Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  22. I know it sounds strange but maybe try to eat more healthy fats or more in general for a short time. I am 6 weeks post op and hungry too. But I notice when I am hungrier and eat a little more is when I lose more. Think it's the metabolism getting going. Also just walking the dog helps lose the weight too. Try just walking even if a short distance and see if that helps. Hang in there! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    No one told me!

Initially it's from the pain meds which are known to cause constipation. Can you take miralax? I will take that occasionally and it works great. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
