SAIL INTO SUMMER CHALLENGE
Flippista replied to Dashofpixiedust8's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
6/30/17 CW: 172.8 Ughh, I gained early this week. Nothing changed in my diet; still low carb (30-50grams) and high protein (85-105grams). I did increase the intensity of my exercises the last 2 weeks and lost about 3% of body fat. I just started to lose the weight I had gained. Hopefully the scale continues to move! -

June 23 CW: 171.2 Challenge GW: 155 Happy Friday!!!! -
I don't use an alert bracelet but I update my medical info on my phone. I have an iPhone and my medical info including ICE is accessible even when locked. If you click on "Emergency" from the locked screen it'll take you to the keypad. On the bottom right it will display Medical Alert. I have my surgeon's number, allergies, conditions on it.

Anyone have "foot drop" from losing weight rapidly?
Flippista replied to Shrinkingmom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Beriberi is a serious condition that be seen after WLS where there is severe and prolonged Vit B1/Thiamine deficiency. It can cause paralysis and/or preipheral neuropathy. Have your MD double check your labs. If that looks good, maybe look into physical therapy or ortho spine. Nerve impingement may occur at the spine or in the lower muscles. Low back pain is commonly seen after rapid weight loss as your center of gravity shifts. Our posture also shifts from increased lordosis by the way we carry belly weight to slowly tucking it back in. With weak back/core muscles, we get muscle spasms and tightness which may impinge nerves as they pass through. Physical therapy will help with postural/gait training and core re-activation. Good luck! -

Liver Shrinking Diet - 45 grams of carbs
Flippista replied to blessed grammy's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My plan only allows 30grams of carbs a day; it was not a liquid diet though. It's doable!! I'm also a type 2 diabetic and I thought it would be rough but I was ok on Day 2. Good Luck! -
Sleeve or bypass
Flippista replied to Carol Blackburn's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was also given the 2 options but finally decided on the RNY. I only had 80lbs to lose to reach surgeon's goal and 90lbs for my personal goal. I am diabetic and though both surgeries can help put diabetes in remission, I decided to stick to the gold standard. I figured that I might as well get the most out of WLS. I have not had any vomiting (knock on wood) and was back to work in 2 weeks. It only took about 3 days for me to recover, but the 2 weeks off helped me transition my diet. RNY post-ops take almost the same amount of supplements as sleevers--I could be wrong but I am taking Multivitamins, Vit B12, iron, and Calcium with Vit D which I read sleevers also take. I have tasted sweets here and there but not enough to dump I guess. Of course, I log those in and take them into my daily calorie account. I'm sure you will do great with whatever you choose! Good luck! -
OP, I had the RNY I lost about 16lbs the 1st month; I'm almost at month 2 and I have lost about 23 lbs all in all. My surgeon thinks I'm right on track. I started at 206 5'4". I had to replace all my clothes. I started boxing and kickboxing at week 5 and feel great! The scale is disappointing but I look at all my NSVs! Clothes are loose; my skin has a chance to catch up with my weight loss; my co-workers don't realize I had the surgery at all; I've had to move my watch wristband 3 notches tighter; and my husband can't keep his hands off of me! Chin up! We will reach goal!

Realistic weightloss question for 208lb start.
Flippista replied to AmandaWho's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 5'4"; SW was 206; I'm 5.5 weeks post-op and down to 185lbs. It's not much but I did lose 6inches from the waist in the first 2 weeks and went down a bra cup. I'm sure at 4 months I will be a lot smaller. I started at a size 18 and now in between 12-14. I know everyone loses differently but I hope this helps give you a general idea. I had the RNY btw. Good luck! -
Blue Cross Federal Reasons to get Denied
Flippista replied to Angelcharm's topic in Insurance & Financing
OP, I have FepBlue. I was told no overall gain. I started at 218, then gained after the first month. I became more compliant and my last weight was 214. I was approved. My surgeon deals with a lot of FepBlue patients and they were strict on not gaining. Use this last month to get under your initial weight! You can do this! -
Weight lost in pre-op diet
Flippista replied to joliemolie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was on a low carb pre-op diet with clear liquids on Day 14. I lost 14lbs overall. The first few days are the hardest but it definitely became easier. Good luck! -

Just got my labs back..Low Vitamin D...
Flippista replied to MelissaRose24's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was also Vit D deficient. My PCP prescribed weekly vit D pills with a lab follow up in 6-8 weeks. He also wrote a little blurb on the letter of medical necessity to explain our action plan on resolving this by surgery date. Good luck! -
I asked the surgery scheduler about reserving a spot. I asked very nicely =)

Anxiously waiting approval
Flippista replied to GMen88's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I know how you feel! I have been waiting a week. I suggest to continue to call insurance daily until you confirm receipt and then space it out after. As for your surgeon's office, I think it's perfectly acceptable to call daily until you get a response if the packet was sent or not. -
April 10! I'm still waiting for insurance approval! Hopefully I'll get it sometime this week.
-
Thanks! I plan on calling next week for updates.

Thanks! I have my surgery date planned in April but it would be nice to know ASAP for peace of mind. I appreciate the info!
