  1. I am self pay but not likely to have surgery until Feb. So, I am not grocery shopping...just eating what's in the house up until I have to stop. I just hate to throw it away. Funny thing, my appetite has gone down since I made the decision to have surgery. Also eating healthier, since I am not eating out either. Sent from my SM-G920V using the BariatricPal App
  2. What? You mean this isn't my skeletal structure ? Sent from my SM-G920V using the BariatricPal App
  3. I am single and live with my 2 dogs. So, I need family assistance with Hospital and the dog care when I go in for surgery. My whole family has been understanding, but last night my dad had a glimmer in his eye of excitement for me. I used to compete in triathlons (for fun) and he was asking if I thought I could start again next year. I could hear it in his voice too. He is 72 and still doing then....ranked 3rd in his age group nationally. Sent from my SM-G920V using the BariatricPal App

    Ecstatic about my support crew

Had another discussion with the family tonight. This time it included my brother's in laws. His MIL has the bypass 19 years ago. She shared her God and bad stories. This genuine support warms me and makes me a bit sad to see other people not getting the same support from family Sent from my SM-G920V using the BariatricPal App
  6. Do any of these Foods you can't eat anymore come back over time? Sent from my SM-G920V using the BariatricPal App
  7. So, I was thinking about the surgery and the cost. Since this is out of pocket, I was wondering what my "break even" point would be. Obviously, there is a reduction in cost of food. Any ideas how much? Then the reduction of prescriptions required. But then you have to get new clothes....but are the smaller clothes less expensive than plus sized? Etc. I know each journey is different, but was curious if anyone sat down and figured thiers out. Sent from my SM-G920V using the BariatricPal App
  8. Probably will be in Feb. I am on the west side of Orlando, near Clermont. Sent from my SM-G920V using the BariatricPal App

    Ecstatic about my support crew

My sister works in the hospital and can take me home....or my mom is good with going to my pre-op appt and taking me home. I do protection training with the dogs, so my trainer has also volunteered to take the dogs if my family can't. Luckily my family all live within 7 miles of each other. 10. Ok...I have read more than once that people can eat around their sleeve or that bad foods slide right through. I don't understand how this is possible...so can someone explain why? I understand Protein takes longer to digest...but not sure about the carb and sugar items? Just curious. I am still pre-op and am just learning. Sent from my SM-G920V using the BariatricPal App

Why does bad food slide through?

Thank you all...this makes a lot of sense. I just want to ensure I am aware of everything and avoid any slippery slopes Sent from my SM-G920V using the BariatricPal App
  14. Knowing that many people have issues with their gallbladder after surgery, has anyone asked to have it removed as a preventative measure at the time of WLS? Also, if self pay, does insurance cover complications after the fact, like the gallbladder if not done pre-WLS? Sent from my SM-G920V using the BariatricPal App

    2017 sleevers?

Hoping you get an early date!!!Spoke to my Surgeon's office and if I start on my list of "to do's", I can get the surgery in late January. Sent from my SM-G920V using the BariatricPal App

    List of "to do's"....

My PCP is on board with this decision. I emailed the surgeon's office and they said my PCP can order it. I assume my PCP can share the results with the Surgeon's office Sent from my SM-G920V using the BariatricPal App
  19. Ok...I asked my Surgeon's office if there was anything I needed to complete to expedite the process (self pay)...before I meet my surgeon. They told me I can work on these in advance. So, how do you go about this without a script or referral from the Dr? They said my insurance should cover the list below. -Blood Work (CBC, CMP, TSH, LIPID PANEL, & A1C) -Psychological Evaluation -Nutritional Evaluation (Done here for $50) -Gallbladder Ultrasound (If not removed already) -EKG Mary Sent from my SM-G920V using the BariatricPal App

    2017 sleevers?

I had to move my 1st meeting with the Dr until after the 1st of the year. But since I am self pay, I am hoping to have it in Feb. I turn 40 in June and would love to have it done before then. However, Jan, March and April are tough months at work for time off. Sent from my SM-G920V using the BariatricPal App
  21. I consider myself lucky. I have told friends and family I am planning on doing this. All have been super supportive. Although, many have seen me diet and fail. I think they understand Sent from my SM-G920V using the BariatricPal App
  22. So, I went to the seminar last night. The surgeon said the following statistics 1 in 150 people maintain significant weight loss when left to thier own devices...less than 1% eek! Note: surgery failure = 25% regain BYPASS = 20% SWITCH = 10-15% SLEEVE = 20-25% So, I am looking for long term inspiration. I am fascinated at the Before&After thread. But I'm curious about the long "termers" Sent from my SM-G920V using the BariatricPal App
  23. I see my surgeon to discuss the procedure, health, history when I get back from vacation. I hope to have surgery in early Feb 17. Anyhow, I am running a half marathon tomorrow and have always been fairly active. I have participated in many sprint and Olympic distance triathlons, savage races, etc. I currently weight 330 lbs at 5'10". Has post surgical nutrition had to change for these races? When can I expect to be able to race again? Sent from my SM-G920V using the BariatricPal App
  24. Good. I am not fast but I am steady and keep on truckin' I finished my half marathon.... I hope to be back to my triathlons next summer if I get Co firmed for surgery in Feb Sent from my SM-G920V using the BariatricPal App
